I can't... I can't play real hardware anymore.

I tried to justify it... "Real hardware will always be accurate, no emulation bugs or glitches"

Truth be told... I don't notice the bugs. I can't tell the difference between the two. It's exactly the same to me. I get quick access games. A wireless wii classic controller that I think feels better to play the games on.

Oh god I'm a monster.

>> No.1751884

People who complain about emulators not being accurate enough, "being full of bugs", etc. are all either anal autists or wannabe autists

99-100% accuracy for almost every game when you can store it in a program less than 20mb that allows you to play thousands of games for free is pretty damn impressive and hard to argue against

Playing on the original hardware is nice, but it's a luxury when we have roughly (guessing out of my ass here) 85% of video games out there /ever/ playable at our fingertips.

How can you play on that spindly-ass Wii controller though, OP. I just tried playing some games myself on a Classic Controller Pro because I'm suck at my in-laws and didn't bring anything else and fuck keyboards. I used to not mind this controller but man I hate it now. The grips are way too long (it's like I'm holding bananas), the buttons are way too mushy and the control sticks have too much length to them, they stick up too much. Awful.

I wonder what Nintendo/Sony/Sega stance on free emulation is? Must be pretty annoying trying to sell your product legit when there are so many alternative ways to download and play their games for free and have the same level of emulation quality with no consequence. Has anyone actually gotten into trouble for downloading and emulating retro games?

I know there's that thing where you are allowed a legal backup of a game you own (or is that just bullshit?) but come on.

Forget hardware. In about a decade it will be hard to get your hands on any actual hardware so if you really like your retro games, your pc will be your best friend from now on.

>> No.1751989

I grew up with the NES and and the one thing emulators really lack is a 75% chance of not starting

>> No.1751990

The most important thing when playing older games is the display.

As long as your video output is on a CRT screen with the accurrate resolution and ratio, and you've got a good controller and no input latency (which most of the times is caused by the modern TVs), then you're good.

However, original hardware will always be the best, especially in some specific games that have trouble emulating, or some consoles that are hard to emulate 100% (N64), but for the most part, there's no real difference.

I play a lot emulated on my PC and PSP.

>> No.1751998

The only time using actual hardware instead of emulation is justified is with the N64[i dont remember if the games that were on the VC are playable], besides you are not a monster, you just found the most comfortable way to play old stuff

>> No.1752002

>>1751964
This.

Nintendo stance is they don't like it. They don't feel like just because you own a physical copy you should have a free digital as well.

BUT they also don't go out of their way to stop it. They feel it will just time and money wasted. I'm guessing they did the Virtual Console as a way to try to draw people into actually buying when before than you really couldn't. "Get FF3 (6 Japan) for $6(or how much SNES games cost on it)" sounds pretty nice when a actual cart cost $100. Honestly I did buy some VC games and I'm happy I did but I still have no real qualms with downloading a random ROM and playing it on my desktop.

>> No.1752010

>>1751998

The N64 games on VC are decent. It's a good alternative for some of the more popular titles to play them with more clarity. But no BK games sadly. I guess if you have a 360 you could get the HD versions.

>> No.1752015

Play Shenmue on any Dreamcast emulator. There are sound and visual glitches all over the place making it really damn distracting in the middle of a story sequence.

The only thing I give a shit about are the controls and the input delay (which is sometimes related to the controls)

Don't worry OP I'm the same way. I have a massive Virtual Console collection. It's easier, all my fav games are in one place, don't have to worry about old carts not working properly or hooking up different systems all the time. Feel good. I'm sitting on a like 200 game virtual console. Feels real good to boot up that SD card and scroll through 20 pages of retro goodness from across all the great consoles of the past. I don't even care. I love it.

nah, it honestly makes the most sense to get the latest version with easy access.
if you don't feel the nostalgia, fuck getting the console or real game.
i do find how remarkably similar a sideways wiimote is to a nes controller. wonder if they did that on purpose.

What else is important? using a proper controller pad is a given.

Of course the best option is having the original hardware, but if you don't have that or if you prefer the comodity of emulation, then the first and most important thing you should take care of is getting a proper display.

N64 take so much getting used to, even on a CRT. From a technical stand point, why is it so blurry and jaggy? My SNES looks awesome on CRT though s video also. Is it just early 3D problems?

why this post has been ignored i have no clue.

I have never found a game i couldn't play. If the pins are missing or damaged that doesn't count.

but for fucks sakes I have found and bought dirty rotten games from floods - literally submerged games that after a good pin scraping with alcohol and a q-tip they were fine. These games were caked in dirt, rust, grime - whatever you call it.

Unless the pins are damaged the games can be cleaned. ( carts at least )

>CRT displays were made for gaming.
CRT displays were made because we figured out how to make dynamic picture and it was cool.

Enjoy your radiation box that expends more electricity than a standard modern computer monitor and actually costs money to get rid of since nobody wants to buy them and they have materials in them that have to be disposed of specially.
