Thank you guys, I wish I had any of those games, lol. I guess I'll keep an eye for some of those, I'm really impressed with the stereo sound coming out of the genesis. Why wasn't it designed to send stereo out the back? How great it sounds could have been a big selling point for it, yet it only has mono out unless you wrap around from the headphones jack? Dumb.

I can't recall too many games that actually take use of stereo in the way of directional sound, almost all just use it to give a bit of a depth.

Columns pans the sound effects to left and right speakers depending on which column you are holding the block in, but its a hard left/right pan not a soft one. It can be useful in multiplayer though.

I used to, but for whatever reason it was full of noise, the game itself was really quiet. And also I wanted standard a/v jacks for composite anyway, it's cheaper than ordering a cable, but I'm thinking about doing the svideo mod later down the road. We did the region mod while it was open as well.

The Genesis can't really do directional sound (panning) like the SNES. The channels on the YM2612 are ON/OFF (hard panning) for left and right, so you would need to dedicate two of the 6 available channels just to get a monotimbral directional sound.

Still, there are alot of games which have superior mastering (if you can call it that) as opposed to some which mix everything down to mono.

An example of a game which mixes everything down to mono is Altered Beast. Batman sounds much better to me because it has proper mixing.
