What's the right price to pay for a Sega Saturn controller?

>> No.1750138

$10 at the most and that is still too much in my book.

I just bought these two things for emulation.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sega-Saturn-Controller-Adapter-USB/dp/B0089O10BC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404823020&sr=8-2&keywords=saturn+controller

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Control-Pad-2nd-gen-Saturn/dp/B00267OGDM/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1404823020&sr=8-4&keywords=saturn+controller

Am I good to go for emulation?

Looks good to me, Bro. Pricey but the right stuff. You'll be happy.

>> No.1750796

They go for about £15 on ebay but I managed to get one in a retro shop for a fiver. Up to you what you're willing to pay.

>>1750640
Pretty much. It's actually picked up in the past few months. Summer, I guess.

Yeah, it's a bit more than I'm happy to pay, but I really want a proper six-face-button controller. The Play Sega knock-offs don't seem to get a lot of love.

If you are looking for Saturn controllers, avoid the US model 1 controllers,(pic related) they are not quite as good. There is also the 3D Control Pad,(also pic related) but not many games support/take full advantage of it. Definitely get it if you want to play NiGHTS though.

This whole craze for using Saturn controllers for emulation started with this batch of USB Saturn controllers that were produced that were great. The problem was that they were so popular those shittier Play Sega controllers came out to capitalize on the demand. Now I guess the only good way to tell the difference from pics is the good ones say Sega on the jack, but most sellers don't show a good pic of that so the way you went is a safe bet, assuming your Amazon seller isn't an idiot.

Also, one bonus to using an adapter is you can also use it with the excellent and overproduced (inexpensive) Sega Virtua Stick. You should be able to find one brand new for $20-$30

Saturn controllers are also great for Mega Drive games, something about having 3 buttons across instead of four face buttons and since most computers don't have 9 pin serial or game ports anymore there's no point in using a USB adapter with the Mega drive controller if there's saturns available.

I get them for around 12 usually, I don't like it, but it's what I can get.

The other problem is that the original ones were actual legit Sega Saturn controllers, officially made and licensed by Sega. They used to flood Ebay at 10-20 bucks, and were amazing cheap USB pads. Now, unfortunately, Sega has put the kibosh on that operation, and no official Sega Saturn USB pads are made anymore. Most of the ones that have filled the void are of inferior quality. I have one of both, and the new ones have terrible response on the buttons. The A and X buttons on mine barely worked even new out of the box. By comparison, I've been using the old one for years with great success, and now that I actually have a saturn, I can say that, in my experience, the original controllers and the old USB pads are pretty much identical. It's a real shame that they aren't made anymore. It used to be an easy and awesome controller. The last ones I saw for sale after the end of production were going for 200 bucks.

All of the new Play Sega controllers are just shitty rebranded Retrotech/gTron knockoffs with the logo silk screened on the front. Only good USB Saturn controller is the SLS controller. Which looks like this.
