I think only people looking to increase their e-peen would call it bad. (Actually they'd probably say something like "What is OBJECTIVELY the SHITTIEST controller ever and why is it the n64? Prove me wrong. Protip: you can't")

I like it a lot, but what makes it really cool is also what makes it really weird. There are basically two different ways to hold it, one for 3d control and one for 2d control. Unusual. It's unfortunate that it never really got fully utilized because there weren't very many 2d games for the n64 (there really should have been, not a ton of developers could really make a competent 3d game at the time) and I don't think there were any games that shifted between 2d and 3d and required you to switch up your grip on the controller. Lost potential.

It's bad. I like the N64 (I have one, and this is the sole reason why I don't play it as much as the rest of my consoles) but the thing is just... not fit to be used comfortably with both hands at the same time.
The second most comfortable looking N64 pad is a third party one that has the analog near the D-pad.

And them most comfortable is the Hori one, made to be used by humans.

My 0.02.

>> No.1731656

Sorry, pressed "send" before I meant to.

Also, even if you don't think both hands should have the same posture while playing and your hands are tiny and can use the 64 controller comfortably, the analog joystick wears out if you look at it too funny.

They have! The Xbox controller essentially used USB with a proprietary plug, so if you splice a USB cable on the end and find drivers (Steel Battalion drivers exist.), it's pretty easy to use Xbox controllers on a PC. I want to play Mechwarrior with one of these so badly.

If I lost a hand I would probably end up nigger rigging something like that if I didn't know it already existed.

How is this "weird" ? It's just incredibly specialized. Any kind of simulator will have this.

Yeah, but analog sticks with free range of motion are a far cry from microswitch sticks with 4 basic directions and 4 in-betweens. I was going to say the Neo Geo AES was the only one that did microswitch thumbsticks right, but I now realize it had a circular gate, and I think that would be exactly like playing D-pad games with an analog stick.
