So... Is this just the japanese version of monster party? I don't understand.

>> No.1737437

>>1737430
Significant version differences + this is the first time it's been available to the general public in the history of ever. The jap version never got an official release. The title screen differences alone should give you an idea.

>>1737430
It's the unreleased Japanese prototype of Monster Party which includes a bunch of content that was altered for the US release, things that were left as tiny hints in the code but never confirmed.

It's the final proof of a long-running little videogame mystery. The original japanese proto is full of even more blood and most of the bosses are blatant pop horror references

>As I previously reported, the cancelled Japanese version of Monster Party was sold on Yahoo Japan Auctions in May 2011 for around $6,000.
>The owner took a hard stance against sharing anything more than a four-minute video on YouTube.
>In February of this year, a second cartridge appeared for sale on eBay and went for $3,513.19 (link). The buyers of the latter copy, Mark and Matt Nolan, came forward to say that they had plans to make reproductions sometime in the future.
>Although I would love nothing more than to distribute the binary for all to enjoy, I have not been able to confirm yet if the Nolans are behind this message or if there is something more going on here
>I have reached out to Mark Nolan, and if he explicitly grants me permission, I will post the back-up file immediately.

Jesus, why is this bullshit allowed or thought of as good? These people (not the Nolans, mind you, but everyone before) are just attention whoring themselves using footage from a lost game. It's both stupid and sad. What bothers me is that unless these Nolan guys go ahead and say "yes" the guy wo has the ROM won't make it available. As if they're some sort of holy Monster Party authority just by virtue of having a cart. Instead of feeling into this stupid mentality they should just make the ROM link public, the message where they got it from outright says FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE.

This is beautiful.
http://www.nintendoplayer.com/feature/vga/

>Nolan had more success in the following month when he placed an Earthbound Super Nintendo pre-release cartridge on eBay for $15,000 (or best offer).

>Although Kotaku parroted the auction’s words in calling the Earthbound cartridge a “one-of-a-kind item”, leaving off the fact that Nolan also stated that there were a “few” others out there, further probing uncovered at least four identical examples residing in private game collections. Nolan, alone, had acquired two copies. According to their former owner, Nolan paid $1,400 apiece for the two Earthbound cartridges.

>A store owner by the name of Paul Clavet submitted an offer of $5,000, an amount largely unheard of for a Super Nintendo prototype, let alone one that almost surely contained the same code as the released game given the word “final” on its front label. Clavet believed his offer would not be enough to sway the seller.

>To his surprise, Nolan accepted. “I bought the game primarily to resell,” Clavet said afterwards.

>Clavet immediately removed the cartridge from its slab upon receiving the game.

Level 8 starts you off all the way to the left, as opposed to the US version, where you start a bit further to the right and one of the boss rooms is actually to the left of you, which confused a lot of people.
