Why hasn't /vr/ made any essentials charts? We're a year old, don't you think it's about time?

Like NES essentials by genre, SNES essentials by genre, PC essentials by genre, etc. We could have a top 10 or 20 per section.

I always wanted to do this for DOS rpgs, but never got around it. I also wanted to make a RPG history history in general from early days to today and with all subgenres including JRPG.

we shouldnt limit to top 10s or 20s, just give all the genuine essentials per category. no need to rank them either as that creates... controversy

We're not that kind of board.

And anyway, if you're looking to get into a specific genre or console there are dozens upon dozens of lists you can find of the top games all over the Internet.

All these lists do is cause pointless, inane arguments and give annoying faggots a chance to wave their cocks around ("oh hurr look at dis game i liek if u dont liek it ur a pleb xD" "durrr look at muh 'refined tastes" and ">liking [popular game] >mfw plebs xD").

Play games you like -- who cares?

yes but not from /vr/. time to mark our place in history.

>> No.1718268

The general concenssus that I've gathered from these threads is that there's no need to make one because it's already done.

We're an offshoot of /v/, right? Well, there's been a /v/ wiki for years now, and a lot of people here probably contributed to it since it was made way back before this board existed. To make one now is just redundant. And the various times I've looked at the wiki for /vr/ systems, the choices seem to be pretty damn good.

>> No.1718271

>>1718268
Also, I meant to use spell check on consensus because I can never spell it right, and just sound it out and let the computer handle it.

>> No.1718284

Because that'd stop recommendations threads in their tracks, and thus at least a third of out traffic would cease.

>> No.1718289

>>1718284
*our

>> No.1718374

>>1717834
Because they are always subjective, lead to arguments, and are a lazy way of doing things. "just consult the /v/ wiki!", or "heres a picture of all the good games". There are two results of this, the thread ends because there will now be absolutely no discussion, or the thread will grow uncontrollably due to arguments. needless to say, shitposters who favor x console will post empty pictures or single entries for y console.
>inb4 nuh uih we aren't /v/
shitposting isn't fucking exclusive to /v/, this entire board wasn't founded on circlejerking faggotry, we all don't agree on everything, and most of /vr/ came from /v/ to /vr/. these are just some years that own a lot of great games, otherwise unexplored by today, and it doesn't make us fucking better for it.

>> No.1718481

>>1718374
Just because the subject matter doesn't inherently make us more civil, doesn't mean we can't strive for be more civil. Part of the whole purpose of the board and people coming here and an escape from /v/ and "no being /v/" is one of its founding principles.

But yes, I agree, I regularly drop into recommendation threads and I actually like having good discussion in them. A wiki or image macro isn't that great because different gamers have different taste that they often mention in the orginal post so other posters are able to finder something suited for them must more accurately and faster than just a simple list does. I find the image macros annoying because you're just given a screen shot and a name, and no real info about the game, combined with the sheer volume of games on that list makes it overwhelming to look up all of them.

>> No.1718621

>>1718481
That isn't the whole fucking purpose of the board. The board is for a place to DISCUSS games that were normally shit on by /v/, old games. Anything other than last gen or current is shit on by a persistent minority in /v/. The whole point wasn't to split a fanbase into two subcultures, a kind nature was encouraged, you cannot found a civilization where "we are all kind". /v/ used to be just like this, a nice escape from everything. Then kids came thinking 4chan is all troll no discussion.

I agree with this, I do think compilations are good, but I would rather have the opportunity to discuss the message with the creator himself, rather than being forced to accept some compilation, which was made with the intent to redistribute. Many people have different tastes, and I would like to hear them all.

Why the fuck is Cool Spot on this list? Also, why the fuck is Samurai Shodown on this list? The home console port was vastly inferior to the original game. It can not be recommended in good faith.

These lists are just some dumb shit throwing together every game he comes across. I'm plenty sure he hasn't even played a lot of them.

Same, but that's the nature of recommendations--you aren't going to like everything that's posted. And people probably don't care for some of the stuff I post.

Samurai Showdown was an absolutely fine port, but recommending it seems very pointless since you ca find the arcade one in countless colllections nowadays.

I don't understand Aero the Acrobat being there, Aero the Acrobat II was good, the first one not that much.

There's a lot of retro out there.

I think it's best to go by system and genre.

So we can have a NES page, and then have the recommended games listed beneath each genre.

Doesn't have to be a specified number of games. We create an exhaustive list of ALL the best games the systems have to offer for each genre.

Are you up to the task /vr/?
