Forever. Buy a few, they are cheap right now, $14-20 a pop, and if you have a spare for membranes, then you will be fine.

Still prefer the Pocket. I have a few of them myself, just as a collector.

My original Game Boy stopped working recently. No explanation, no obvious problems or mistreatment. One day I went to play it and it refused to turn on, even with fresh batteries. So that sucks.

On the other hand, my atomic purple GBC is still working perfectly. Only issue is some grime under the buttons that make them feel spongy and hard to press. I'd highly recommend one of them.

>> No.1713943

Do any manufacturers make those rechargeable battery packs like Madcatz and similar 3rd party companies used to do?

Mine's lasted forever. I had a friend give me his old one a while back and I used it to two-tone my Gameboy, he has the other halves.

For a while I had a garden light solar panel and some rechargeable batteries with a resistor on the back of my gameboy but it fell off since I used hot glue. Eventually I'd like to mod it a bunch and give it better speakers, a new LED battery light, a switch on the top to under/overclock with some new crystals and a front lit screen and a good solar panel with hinges.

I've also thought about shoving my gameshark into the gameboy it self so I always have it without sacrificing the space behind the gameboy for the solar panel.

But that's all for when I'm not feeling like a lazy piece of shit.

>> No.1715440

I've got 2, and they both have lasted well. Although I do recommend doing a front light mod if you have a broken GBA sp

>> No.1716792

They're pretty neat, I bought a atomic purple one and a Pokemon edition Game boy.
They both are holding up pretty good, the Pokemon one is in really great condition, a couple of minor scratches in the corner of the game screen in one but its alright. The atomic purple one thou, that one is way beat up it doesn't even have a battery cover and its the screen and body are scratched to hell and back not to mention the A button is loose and needs to be pressed with a bit more pressure than you would normally do when pressing the button, just to make it work.

>> No.1716831

If you do end up buying a Game Boy Color highly recommended by the way I would suggest front lighting it.
You can buy front light kits on eBay and other niche shops. Just note that you should probably go with a solid color if you want to do this, as using Clear or Atomic Purple will not look as nice afterward.

Add the front light in with an EDGB and you've got a good collection everywhere.

>> No.1717146

I have my atomic purple from when they came out. The bastard still works like a champ and has been dropped onto cement and down stairs before. A Gameboy will last forever, the GBC is no exception. The single drawback is that there are like, no good flashcarts for these guys that don't cost you an arm and a leg.

Consider a GB Boy Colour, it's a chinese knock-off that's actually quite good. I don't care for the rounded dpads, but it has a backlit screen.

Some people hate it because the screen is a tad lower and wider than the original, and there is supposed to be something off about the sound.

When playing GBC games on SP, I would often bump into a side of the cartridge somehow, and crash the game. However, a lot of the time I'm fine with it.

Unless I'm trying to play Boktai. It is a huge pain in the ass to play that on an SP. The original Advance is really the only way to play Boktai comfortably.
