Hey /vr/ was there a game that you played recently that wasn't as good as you remembered?

>> No.1714885

Not really.

>> No.1714887

Battletanx, on the N64.
A friend and I always played the shit out of it back in the day.
I just recently played it, and god damn I had a hard time telling what was what. It was much more blocky and bland than I remembered.
Even tried Battletanx: Global Assault again, both n64 and ps1 versions.
They are still fun, yes, but damn did I have a hard time making things out for the first 20 or so minutes.

Another game is Ocarina of Time. Before i'm jumped on for this, I never played the game for 14 years. It just didn't hold up for me. I hated how things/people wouldn't appear until you were really close to them. They seemed to fix that for the most part in Majora's Mask [ which I play through every couple years ].
So basically, after years of still playing MM, then finally going back to OoT, it just seemed really bad. Maybe I should get the 3DS version, played it once at a cousins place, it looked great.

Excitebike 64.

The physics and tricks are still fun but the lack of music and repetitive announcer just make it so fucking bland and annoying to play.

>> No.1715610

This has honestly never happened to me.
All I do when I replay games I liked as a kid is gain insight into why I liked them, or even end up enjoying them more than I used to.

a couple years back I tried playing golden eye again. while it still controls decent if not a little un natural feeling i found it to be so much slower than I remembered.

I live at a different speed now. even halo 2 has this problem

>mfw I don't even enjoy modern console fps.

Super Metroid. I hate saying that because I don't think it's bad, just not as good the first time around I played it.

Ocarina of Time on the other hand makes me want to hurl when I play it now.

What? Surely the nostalgia more than makes up for how (mildly) it has aged.

GoldenEye, on the other hand...

I feel like im wearing beer goggles when playing n64 games sometimes. the textures are so fuzzy.

Ocarina of time plays amazingly well on the 3ds, and there was even the gamecube rerelease if you got the dosh.

Yeah, in retrospect the textures are atrocious.

Still, best way to solve that beer-google feeling: actual (and yet still metaphorical) beer googles.

How so? Carrying her highness around is not the most fun in the world, but was there something else?

I think Kirby's Dream Land 3 is the only time that that's every happened to me. I once went through a lot of effort to try and obtain that game, and then when I finally did, it was much worse than I remembered it being.

I ended up playing Kirby's Adventure a couple of years later and liking that a whole lot more, so that makes up for it.

First time I played it that temple was piss-easy (saved constantly, too). Then, after completing the game, I started reading about it, and learned how much of a bitch it's supposed to be. Ever since then, it's been a bitch to me, too. Go figure.

It's not difficult as it was annoying.

If you missed one thing you have to do the same three lullaby's over and over. Also the boss was underwhelming compared to the other adult link bosses.

Loved the dark link part though.

Yeah, it was annoying in that sort of way.

Shameful. Dream Land 3 is great

I remembered Croc: Legend of the Gobos being a much better platformer when I was ten. Now the controls are shit, the camera is shit, and there are about ten other games I'd rather be jumping and collecting shit in on my old PS1.

The big prize goes to Rascal.

I loved this game as a kid even though I never got anywhere.

Kid Chameleon. I remember thinking it was really cool because A HUNDRED LELVELS GUIZE!, but the controls are floaty as fuck, the sound is shitty, and he transform gimmick isn't as cool as I remember.

uh... when I play gb/gbc pokemon games I miss the running from the later games but that's about it

yoshi's story.
I played it all the time as a kid, but after having recently played Yoshi's Island, it just doesn't hold up in comparison

I used to think Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon was the greatest shit ever, and that Goemon's Great Adventure was the lesser goemon game on the N64.

Now I have the reverse opinion. Goemon's Great Adventure is the true greatest shit ever. It's Mystical Ninja that is actually the worse game

Colony Wars.

It's an amazing game in a lot of ways, but the lack of momentum and generally slow speeds of ships and projectiles is pretty jarring after having played the Ace Combat series.
