Do I just suck at videogames? I find Earthbound to be incredibly difficult. The enemies have incredible attack power, high amounts of HP, and the amount of enemies is very high.

>Do I just suck at videogames?
Yes.

>> No.1714232

Also, avoiding the enemies is virtually impossible since they move so much quicker than you. I feel like there's something I'm missing. Doesn't seem like others had this much trouble with it

>> No.1714238

The game's annoying until you get party members.

There's also some weird difficulty spikes here and there (those weird living inanimated objects in the mall do a lot of damage). I wouldn't call you bad if you think the game tough sometimes.

don't avoid the enemies
there's literally only one part that I found difficult in that game (I played it few weeks ago for the first time), and it was around the time you get Paula (outside the towns, where you get attacked by flying saucers and plants).

Holy crap, op, I JUST started playing this last week and I'm at the Department store blackout. Dramatic spike in enemy difficulty out of fucking nowhere.

>> No.1715420

>>1714226

most of the game is pretty easy, but i know what you mean OP, there are parts that can be a bit unforgiving from a pure numbers standpoint.

easiest way to "grind" is to just find those places where you can fight big groups of weak enemies. this will give you big XP for easy fights without having to spend a lot of time fighting.

most notably, the slugs in the 1st dungeon are a really easy way to level up early & fast. they dont even attack you most of the time and you can easily take on 5+ slugs. though not as reliable the ants can call for help and net you a whole bunch too.

another good example are the fobbies in one of the last dungeons.

It was the other guy telling me to grind. I never said I needed to, just that the game design is shit. His response was 'well the trees won't blow up if you one shot them after grinding!!' Which doesn't excuse anything about the game. It's total ass and the age old 'you got to reach x location before its good' says a lot about what even the fans think of this crap. Then the endless goalpost moving of where x actually is in the game

i'm not the same dude who you were talking to before, but i love this game from start to finish, and i loved it from start to finish the very first time i played it.

it's unfortunate you don't like the game, but saying its "bad design" makes no sense, because it follows most JRPG standards of its time. personally, i dont see why anyone would prefer FF6 or CT (highly praised games) over EB for "game design". i like those games too, but they're all JRPGs with the same fundamental mechanics.

if you don't like JRPGs from this time period in general, then I don't know why the fuck you would ever think to play this game, or why you would even post in this thread.
