1711763 No.1711763[DELETED]  [Reply] [Original]

So, the final level is just some of the normal levels rehashed and there is no reason at all for Sigma being alive again? What a rushed game.
The series get better in X3 or should I just give up and be happy with X and X2?

It gets slightly better with X3.... Picks on again nicely with X4 though. X1 really set the bar too high.

Mostly this. People have a severe to-the-ass, love or hate relation with X4 though.

I loved it myself, from the design to the music, but whatever.

If you go to X3, play one of the 32-bit versions instead. The game is the same, but the music is way the fuck improved.

Looks like someone didn't stay for the whole credits of the first X. Sigma says he'll be back soon, and stronger. And that he'll only keep getting stronger. You do realize he lives as a virus, right?
>>1711782
I disagree, X3 is my favourite. I find it the most interesting. But don't get me started on the "arranged" version on the ps1 and MMX Collection, I fucking hate it so much.
X4 is really good, too, at least as Zero. Why they gave X a little girly voice in that is beyond me. They seemed to focus much, much more on Zero's story in that one.
X5 is even pretty good, although the music isn't very good, for the most part. Also focuses much more on Zero.
X6 is for masochists. I like it, but I understand why most people wouldn't. It's a good challenge all around [except for rescuing all the fucking reploids]

Maybe? Also he's a robot policeman who punched Zero in the head and let all the crazy out, I guess. I dunno.

Who told you that? X7 is total shit and X8 is slightly less shit, still shit though, especially with x's gay friends being playable. The X franchise went down the sonic road hard with the x series. Just like with sonic everything after the third game is shitty friends and crappy animu drama

>> No.1711902

>crappy animu drama

That was a staple from the very first game, anon, from when the pretty blonde bishonen saved the spunky, headstrong rookie in the intro.

Only diff is they had more resources to use on it later.

I wish the people with this horribly incorrect opinion would elaborate. Do you have an actual basis on what makes music good or do you just not like it? I'm not gonna fill in the blanks for you either.

X3 is an odd duck and can easily be judged as basically the same or only just slightly better than X2.

X4 is honestly very underrated, it's the only game in the X series that can rival the first for sheer quality and surpasses it in presentation.
Something must be said for how the game manages to be equally fun and awesome playing as both X and Zero when they play wildly different.

>> No.1712087

>Megaman X1 is the best X game

Everyone says this and I don't get why.

Is it pure nostalgia? X2 and X3 both have a lot more to offer then X1.

>> No.1712103

>>1712087
it's not pure nostalgia.

It's just that when you really pick these games apart, content or ideas they toyed with or added in X2 / 3 don't really succeed in making a "better" game. They are by no means bad...it's just that I feel the first game to really do something worthwhile to truly improve upon the first is X4 with it letting you play 100% the whole game as Zero.

>> No.1712116

>>1712069
I share your frustration on that one.
I love X3's soundtrack. I find it very fitting for each stage. [ talking about SNES version ]
Gravity Beetle, Blast Hornet, Blizzard Buffalo, and my favourite track Toxic Seahorse. Fucking awesome songs. Dopplers stages have good music as well. Then the fights with Sigma, it makes it feel like you're fighting an overwhelming power. Good stuff. Also can't leave out Zero's theme in the game, it's my person favourite of all of Zero's themes.

X1 is fucking amazing but people need to move passed it and appreciate the other great X games as well.

I'd argue that its only real flaw is that you don't have the dash right out of the gate, and you can't NOT get the dash.

Should've just replaced that enhancement with something more interesting.

>> No.1712154

>>1712137
they had to put the dash in there like they did though, otherwise you may not have known the capsules existed. coming from nes mega man i wouldn't have searched the stages like i did for capsules if one wasn't given to me.

i never played x3 in the 90s, and because of that I find it incredibly difficult. just running x1 casually i can beat it in just over an hour with no deaths and all upgrades, because I've been playing it for over 2 decades. I get rekt on x3

I thought it was needlessly downtuned. X1 used plenty of high pitched instruments and was still metal as fuck. Some songs are also ungodly repetitive (like one or two riffs with no solos), whereas in X1 most if not all the songs are a minute long with very little repetition in between. Ergo, I don't want to kill myself within 20 seconds of listening.

Songs in X1 and X3 are about the same length, actually.

I think the problem with X3 might be entirely in the instruments and transcription. I mean, the original Blizzard Buffalo is physically painful but this is what it was supposed to sound like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3PJyiKxQhY

Agreed. Although the game was challenging if you didn't follow the prescribed order, as defeating certain reploids take the teeth out of some stages (e.g. defeating Chill Penguin freezes the lava in Flame Mammoth's stage). Additionally, yes the special weapons in X1-X3 were generally useless except to have an easy time with bosses.

I wasn't a fan of X3 because of too much back-tracking and the mega buster 'upgrade' felt like a downgrade -- X2's mega buster upgrade was my favorite one with dual shots.

I dislike massive backtracking in general, though. It's a cheap way for developers to attempt to make the player feel like there's more content, but really it's just annoying gopher tasks at the end game.

But are the mega man games for the saturn worthwhile?
Wanting to import them after playing x1.

Supposedly they are superior to their PS1 counterparts, but I've never owned a Saturn and don't have the patience to attempt emulating it. I do know I prefer Tengu Man's theme on the Saturn version of Mega Man 8.

In the Japanese version, Sigma tells you to meet him at the Central Computer area where you fought Magna Centipede, since the X-Hunter's base is destroyed (everything was blowing up once you beat the 8 Mavericks again). The map sprite changes IIRC and the map's camera does move up and focus on the destroyed X-Hunter base, but it still teleports you to where Sigma challenged you. Sigma doesn't say anything about where to meet him in the English version. X2 generally has a pretty bad translation job, leaving details out like that and basically everything about Serges, which is why you felt like it was rushed. It wasn't, it was just a shit translation job.

Generally, whichever X series games people tend to like the most varies. They're all worth at least trying, and you'll even find a couple of people who like X7. I'm fond of X1-6 for different reasons and find they're all good games in their own ways.

And while not retro, I'll add that X Command Mission is a pretty fun JRPG, if you're into those kinds of games.
