Did you ever get that feeling that certain songs would be much more celebrated if it were on a more successful game? Like any game Tim Folin was ever a part of.. ;_;

This thread's for the tracks that flew under the average gamer's radar.

I rented this game randomly and got addicted to this song. I had to spend a decade and a half remembering where it came from. (Discovering it via YouTube is sort of anti-climactic though.)

That's amazing piece OP. I love it. Tim Folin is one of my all time favorite composers.

Street Gang on C64 is shitty, short game, but music is really good:

How are people so gay for tim folin I can't stand his music. It's just technical wankery that is a pain to listen to.

no I like catchy VGM if you try and whistle a piece by tim you just sound like an idiot. It's like that death metal band necrophagist, sure they can play their instruments and do a lot of technical things a lot of guitar players couldn't but it doesn't mean it is any good.

Again, BOF3 is virtually the only BOF that people actually acknowledge. It effectively put the first two to shame, and its sequels were mediocre at best.

I hated BOF-2 and their bullshit like where to find every other elemental wisp other than Fire/Dark, but that's another story altogether.

OP here. Was the game really that bad? As a kid, I sucked at a lot of NES games. For example, I didn't have enough patience to beat the first Zelda on my own until age 18. I 'still' don't have the patience to power through stuff like Metroid and Kid Icarus. Compared to those two games, I always though WnW 2 was a more beatable game (Even though I never defeated the 2nd major boss.) I found out why by watching a longplay just now. I never had that mentality to look for walls to walk through. Fuck that logic.

>> No.1703758

>>1703319
Yeah, it was pretty bad. You pretty much had to run into enemies with the sword until you got any sort of projectile. The other problem was that all of the platforms in the game were at weird angles and it was sometimes very difficult to determine what was or wasn't a platform. Plus everything in the game had very bouncy properties to them so it was all in all very weird.

I never beat the game without passwords. I used to be able to get to the forest level but I never got past there. I should give the game another spin sometime.

This soundtrack is one of the most underrated in my opinion, no other game sounded like this back when this was first released.

I'll tell you right now. Combat will initially be a frustrating experience but it's not impossible to learn. Even if you miss, a lot of times your shield will block whatever runs into you. Bosses tend to revolve around finding the right place to stand and slamming the Y button as quickly as possible. Also magic is virtually useless outside of a few basic enemies so don't think the game is going to get easier once you get fireball or air cutter.

The mazes in the game are a little obnoxious but it's not like you'll be lost for days.

I had this and Shadowgate as a kid. I think my dad showed me how to beat Shadowgate and I ended up figuring out Deja Vu through a lot of trial and error. Now I just need to play and beat Uninvited someday.

that's actually pretty useful advice for me... I tend to try to find a spot to stand and hammer the attack button really fast in boss fights, until i get magic that lets me be cheap. now I'll know that it's a valid strategy and I should keep doing it through the whole game. lol

>>1703801
I never played that, but it sounds like they used straight up MIDI files for the music. That makes how nice it sounds even more impressive IMO.

The games are just trial and error. Just do everything. Hell, half the entertainment from those kinds of games are seeing all the strange and stupid ways to die. Actually, that's one of the big problems Shadowgate has is the torch system. There shouldn't be time limits in games where you're supposed to get lost and not know what to do.
