I suppose I just wanted it to be more character driven? I'm not sure how to explain it. There's just almost no unique scene dialogue anymore for characters after you recruit them. When you go to recruit Terra, you get generic dialogue no matter who's in the party. After you recruit Terra and you go to recruit Locke, she has nothing to say.

I like character interaction and there's almost none of that in the WoR, so that's a major con for me. Even with that, FFVI is still one of my favorite FFs.

I read through the whole conversation and I mostly agree. If only FFVI was made later or SE was bold enough to remake the game with a substantial amount of script additions in the WoR. I don't think FFVI was really lacking in the character development, though. Character development isn't all about becoming a completely different person by the end of the story, it includes just revealing things about a character to better explain their motivations, too. Cyan's fear of machines isn't something to be overcome, it's just a little quirk that was added to his character to make him more human. Locke being smitten with Celes and wanting to protect her is explained through Rachel. Cyan writing those letters to the woman in Mobliz because he doesn't want her to feel the pain he felt, etc. I'm unfortunately all out of examples.

This so much. I've loved FFVI/III since I was a kid and had such great memories with it. Every few years I get back into it on emulator or so. A few years back I bought the Super Nintendo cart for it and couldn't be happier. Played through it fully with a friend on ZSNES and might start speedrunning it soon. It never gets old and has such a great nostalgic feel to it like no other game for me in my life. It's like uncovering a treasure every single time I load it up :)

>>1697328

I've only played Lufia and The Fortress Of Doom (The Original Lufia) and I do also have fond memories of that game, wish I owned it but it's so expensive online. Doesn't hold a candle to FFVI.

I beg to differ. Both deserve all the praise they get. Chrono Trigger has better gameplay, while FFVI has a better villain.

Those were character insights, not character development.
Characters needn't do a 180° to develop. Certainly, that would be, aptly enough, /out of character/. Rather, keep their personality intact but allow them to progress beyond their shortcomings more than 'well this happened so now I'm fighting this thing and then that thing that happened is no longer relevant so we never have to bring it up again.'
Using the Lunar example for the third time, Ghaleon is the Big Bad in both versions. In the original, his motivation for his actions is never fully explained. It's barely even hinted at. Rather, he's just another power-hungry douche and little else.
In the remake, his character shows progression. He feels solace in his service to the Goddess. He feels despair and betrayal when the Goddess decides to let go of her divinity to allow humanity to live without her guidance. He feels a void with this lack of guidance for both himself and fellow man. Sociopathy kicks in and he decides to provide this guidance to himself and the rest of creation.
He sees his error. He develops regret for his actions. Finally, he achieves redemption.

That's how his character progressed. The only character to actually show emotional development through the events of FFVI is, much like Robo in CT, the one that was devoid of emotion for much of the story: Terra. And she doesn't do so anywhere near as intricately as the characters of Lunar did.

Overall, I like FFVI better than Lunar, but I like the characters and their development in Lunar far more.

I must admit, I do like Terra.

AGTP in general: when normal groups pack up and go home due to problems, they just keep it up on their site and say "still in progress."

They do normally get through them and complete eventually, but sometimes it does literally take years.
