Some please correct me if i'm wrong, because I know nothing about NES/SNES programming and hardware, but looking at the video, isn't that actually somewhat of a technological achievement?

They didn't just rip the game and replace the text/etc, they actually (appear to) have downgraded the whole thing to run on the inferior NES hardware, and changed quite a lot to make it less demanding-- which I assume would require a decent amount of reprogramming, including Chinese text support, apparently.

Interesting stuff.

>> No.1698632

>>1698594

This wasn't really even that uncommon. There was an interesting period in the nineties where the industry in Japan, the US, and a large part of Europe had more or less moved on to the fourth generation of consoles, but other parts of the world were still seeing mass market dominance of the original Famicom, or more commonly, Famiclones. Nobody in Russia or South America wanted to pay out the nose for an imported Super Famicom when they could get a Dendy or Dynavision for a fraction of the price. So you had a mountain of cheap cartridge parts and a huge market to make a quick buck off of.

16-bit ports weren't even that uncommon. First, they were a ready-made and designed game that would be exclusive to the pirate release, which was a big deal considering how every decent Famicom-original game was printed by so many manufacturers legit or otherwise that the market was completely saturated. Second, they were moderately appealing to an unsuspecting consumer, who might have seen Sonic or something on television and wanted to try playing it on his system. And finally, since these were pirate groups, they didn't have to worry about whether the final result would actually play well- most of these ports were programmed in completely patchwork ways, and controlled like a drunk hippo. Few of these games were anywhere near stable

This is probably one of the more famous instances of a 16-bit game ported to Famicom:
