What is the best third party N64 controller you can buy new at a reasonable price these days.

I have tried a Chinese knock-off and it sucked.
Unreliable buttons and clunky analogue stick.
I had no idea how much you can even fuck up making a controller.

"Reasonable" is relative but I suppose we can assume you're at LEAST excluding the MOST expensive one.

If you're looking for a pad that performs comparably to the Hori Mini, the Super Pad is really ugly but an okay controller that FEELS acceptable but if you really want the analog to be opposite the face buttons you gotta get a Hori. Even the fucking arcade stick uses the "analog low and in the middle" layout. At least the Siper Pad puts them in basically Playstation positions.Just don't look at it while you use it. It'll give you cancer.

I've spent close to that just on replacement Genuine controllers.

I'm thinking about replacing the stick on my genuine ones.
Are the GC-like replacements any good?

Holy shot, I had a friend who one done of these and who ever had to use it for multiplayer games at his house was always butthurt. We used to have heated rock paper scissor games to see who would have to use it. In retrospect it seems preferable to the original controller.

Thank you, anon, for the memory/feels,

It would have been much less gross if the manufacturers had matched Nintendo's plastic better. I remember it was the first black N64 controller you could buy IIRC but it's a totally different black than the console. Darker and MUCH glossier. Even the gray color is yellower or something and it all has the wrong texture.

>>1675502
Perfectly reasonable if you'd all been practicing with the Nintendo controller. You could have been the kid who retrained himself on the Super Pad and abused the advantage. loljk N64 games never make you use the d-pad and the analog stick at the same time

i swear i tried one of these when i was a kid and it was utter trash. but people actually like them?

>> No.1675591

>>1675521
People who are going from modern consoles back to N64 will love them for the same reason you hated them when you were a kid who was accustomed to the standard controller. Objectively it should be better but like I said there's basically no game that uses both d-pad and a-stick simultaneously. The analog is used WAY more though so the Hori is clearly the best layout plus they got the plastic right.

I really like my replacement stick.
I picked up the gamecube one, you have to shave a bit off thw connector to fit it in, and make sure you tape the wires to the board or shell, if the board presses it against the stands inside itll make the inputs go crazy. Otherwise ive had no problems.
I've read reviews of people bitching, saying they cant pull off the smash moves in ssb, but I dont know what theyre talking about.

Also, just a general heads up to anyone, do not buy cirka, holy fuck those sticks wear down in like a week.
I have a shell of a yellow cirka (since I gutted it, its worthless) I might see if the nintendo controller board will fit in it.

Any photos? I bought a "GC style" stick and I hate it. It's great for Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie, but terrible for Goldeneye.
Mine didn't require any modification to make it fit, I bet there are more than the single design out there

I can try and get a clearer picture if you need a better idea. It had a ball sort of thing under it instead of the deep valley of a nintendo stick.

I've still yet to buy goldeneye, so I haven't tested that game on it. I've been playing alot of Spacestation Silicone Valley and it works extremely well.

This controller that I put the replacement stick in is a little beat up since it was the one that had the shittiest original stick.

That looks pretty similar to the one that I have. The stock model has a screw holding it together on the bottom of the box, but this one looks like it's glued together. Similar?

The very same I believe.
What problems have you had with it?
Did it work better initially and now isnt as good?
also this is my buddy up the street's stick, he told me he bought it from a local game store with the stick already replaced.
I dont know if the store did it or if the previous owner did, but it plays, and feels the same.

What I noticed when playing Goldeneye, when aiming with the crosshair is that it felt like nothing was going to happen, and then all of a sudden ALL THE MOVEMENT IN THE WORLD and it was impossibly difficult to correct for.

>>1678416
>Notice the long time the stick stays in neutral position.
>Also notice how much freaking time it takes for the stick to make it's way from neutral position to all the way left.
>You can also see the steps are made very irregularly.
>Most of the time nothing happens, then 2 or 4 steps are made at once in a very short period of time.

Which describes *exactly* what noticed when trying to aim.

The GameCube-style N64 joystick has been fixed.
Sadly, the guy selling the parts has ran out and it could be months before he gets more parts in.
I think I'll buy one of his fix-kits and the joystick so I can have the perfect N64 joystick that won't wear down in a matter of weeks and still work perfectly with GoldenEye 007 and StarFox 64.
