I used to have a subscription to Playstation Magazine when they were doing PS1 demo discs. I learned about games like Team Buddies and Legend of Dragoon from that.

I'd love it if I could find some of the openings for OPM demo discs, but all the ones on youtube are for ps2 OPM disks. The only one I can remember off the top of my head is "Blowfish!" attacking some city. I recall it being a pretty bad demo disk, they had some barbie crash-bandicoot ripoff inside. We used to have stacks and stacks of these things and my brother just pretty much left them lying around. Now I'm wishing I would've told him to hang on to them and take care of them.

I played through the Final Fantasy VIII demo like 100 times. The music was awesome and the game was fun.

For some reason they changed the music in the actual game to something less good.

My girlfriend tells a story about playing a game on a demo disc that later would turn out to be Brave Fencer Mushashi. Upon reaching the boss, her father storms in and tells her she shouldn't be playing it, because it has swear words. "What?" "That guy just said, 'You prick.' That's swear words. Turn it off."

Now, mind you, I'd never played the game but looking at screenshots and shit, I assume this is a game that wouldn't have the main character calling someone a prick. Just not the right kinda game for that, you know?

So finally a few days ago she decides to look up the fight on the tubes.

The boss is named Rootrick. Her drug addict father heard it and thought he said "You prick."

When I was a kid i played these all the time. My absolute favorite was a game where you were a dog, but also robocop, and you stole kittens and then threw bombs at some cats in a hot air balloon.
A few years ago i decide i'm going to just find and play that game, but it turns out there's an official english release! So i played Tail Concerto all the way though and guess what

That exact disk was the exact fucking disk i used to play the shit out of OP. My uncle got a ps1 on launch so i used to play it with him at my grandma's house before i bought one.

Listen to this demo disk lineup...

Spyro the Dragon
Coolboarders (2?)
Soul Reaver
Metal Gear Solid
Ninja : Shadow of Darkness
and Medival

How can so many great games even fit on that disk without it bursting into flames. Shit man.

Ones I remember the most fondly from the Imports section were Ore No Ryouri, Gangway Monsters, and Tail Concerto(which later got an english release, something I didn't find out until about 10 years later). It's a bit weird looking back on all of this as an adult. As a kid, I always just played the games and never thought too much about them other than forms of enjoyment. Seeing the work put into these things is definitely eye-opening and of course, the technology being used back then as well just makes it seem even more alien.

All i remember is that one of these had a demo for Assault Rigs (terrible game) and if you put the CD in an audio CD player it would play the level theme from it as one of the tracks. Which was some funny funky music that became a big in-joke with my friends.

Playable demo of RE1?

Had no idea there was even one. I wonder how much is playable; i doubt there'd be any difference with the final game to make it interesting though

As for the topic at hand; I didn't get that many PS1 demo, just like about 10; I did enjoy them though.

However, when I was a kid every 3 months would come out that PC magazine special issue with each time a cd with between 80 and 100 playable demos; a disc with tons of shareware and also cool things like usermade content for games like Duke Nukem 3D (i had no internet so ti was great), and a cd with 3 (older) full games.
That was so great, I literaly discovered a thousand games with it. We eventually stopped buying it because at some point, our computer was too old to run most of the demos of games that were coming out.

>> No.1683016

I remember having some (PAL) demos.

Tekken 3 with only Eddy and Ling Xiaoyu.
Intelligent Qube.
Kula World.
Overboard.
Lifeforce: Tenka.
Medievil.
I think I had a demo of Hexen and Tomb Raider 1, too.

That's all I can remember... Well, I played those mostly.
