So I just this thing yesterday... And all I can say is holy shit. Finally, after all these years I can play the physical cartridges of old, retro games I own on, my modern television! Previously I was unable to do this due to the outdated video output cables on the original consoles I own. Not only does the Retron 5 solve this problem, but it also upscales my old games to HD, giving a fresh, modern feel to the retro games I love.

If you haven't gotten one yet, I highly recommend it!

This think will never play N64 games, right? After all, it can't be emulated without flaws after all these years.

I'd get it if it could play downloaded roms.

As it stands, no deal chump.

It's pretty much a giant emulator with some cartridge slots, so all it'll take is some craft nerd to turn the thing into a dedicated emulator box.

It already has an SD card slot, so that's a good start

You can already run the same emulators on your PC, and download complete ROMsets essentially instantly.

Shill somewhere else.

But then what is the point? Whatever you are posting with I can almost guarantee can run more games than this expensive emulator box. Hell, my phone could for cheaper, with a built in microsd slot. With support for plugging into televisions. With support for any fucking controller you want.

Though don't take this as belittling your emulatorbox, I am fine with you purchasing it, though I just really don't understand the point. I know people who have bought emulator boxes just to buy flashcarts to run pirated games on, while their computers, which were better than mine, went unused, and I just don't fucking get it. Sure, you can now plug your physical cartridges in the system. But it doesn't even guarantee that you will be able to play that game, as physical barriers, from special chips to emulator issues, will prevent it from doing so. Someone should just invent a cartridge to computer/phone cord that installs out of date software for 49.95 and fucking profit.

Some people just enjoy playing old games on a TV. Shoot, why else would they include legacy controller ports on the thing?

If it was a straight up emulator box, they would just put some USB ports on the front and call it a day.

If there are some gullible idiot that thinks that the Retron5 is a good idea, I have a lot of Ouyas to sell!

But you can't plug a cartridge into an Ouya. Or original game carts.

So... does this thing actually work? Because with the way people are getting buttmad I am assuming there is something horribly wrong with it that no one is talking. No, price tag and the option of using an emulator instead aren't actually complaints.

Honestly it'd be a fun novelty thing to have, if it wasn't a hundred and forty fucking dollars.

If it was $100 or less and had ROM support, it'd be a fun alternative to hooking other things up to your TV because of the built in controller ports and shiz. But as it stands, it's a $140 emulator box that runs off cartridges you have to supply yourself, and it's pretty dumb

>> No.1642629

>>1642607
But you could hook up just about anything to your televisions nowadays, with special connectors, and USB ports are just as difficult to wire to a circuit board as the other few console inputs located on the Retron 5.

>>1642615
Fucking this. Like really, what could you possibly do with the dusty cartridges you would no longer need? Sell them for hundreds - thousands of dollars, making bank while simultaneously lowering the prices of that specific game by adding to the extremely super low supply that is so undoubtedly low and did I say LOW SUPPLY? That would be retarded. People like all the extra piles of plastic crowding their homes, providing an excellent base for dust blankets to consume and diseases to hide in.

Why do these threads rustle my jimbobs so successfully every fucking time?

Wouldn't buying an NES and SNES alone be $140 in this day and age? This seems like a good deal in comparison if you account for the ability to play Sega stuff to, but again I am worried there is something wrong with it. A lot none official SNES things erase save data, have trouble with FX chips and other weird shit.

>> No.1642654

>>1642647

If I was going to go with a cartridge-based system only, I'd at least do it right and get proper hardware. I'd only be interested in these weird alternatives as a lazy man's means of hooking up an emulator box to a TV to load ROMs. That's it.

>> No.1642684

>>1642647
They might cost more overall, but they are the actual consoles. No emulation. If this thing was 30 bucks, which I know it probably costs more to make, then it might be worth it, because you are buying emulators. But it isn't 30 bucks. It is over 100 dollars, for emulation. Where in contrast, just about anything else you already own could run emulators either cheaply or free (provided you already bought the thing, which you obviously did since you are on 4chan),. Also I do believe there are issues with special chips, notably in games like Super Star Fox, Super Mario World 2, and others.

>> No.1642687

I couldn't agree more, OP!

The Retron 5 is a fantastic machine and it's perfect for us retro nerds here on /vr/. Quite honestly, it's epic. Epic for the win.
