Indifferent. While it's an interesting idea the execution was terrible. It was just a big memory game.

I never played the original, so I'm unsure how to feel. Could be fun, though.

So wait, is it gonna be the original actors, too?

Wasn't that girl from Different Strokes the star of the game?

The article reads: "Night Trap was included among titles like Mortal Kombat and Doom as games that were deemed inappropriate for children."

Don't make me laugh.

It's a re-release, not a remake.

Night Trap was actually pretty good for what it was and meant to be. Most all motion-captured video games were garbage, but this one was mediocre at best. I liked it.

Does anyone still own a copy of this game?

>> No.1637082

I'm surprised they're not using kickstarter to fund. This is exactly the type of shit shitkicker attracts.

I would rebuy it on Steam. They should put it there and on GOG.

That's true, though. Goofy as it sounds in retrospect it was cited in the Lieberman hearings that eventually resulted in the ESRB's creation.

This.

They've always been more strict with game ratings than movie ratings.

>> No.1638406

So do they have a higher resolution version of the footage somewhere or something?

>> No.1638413

>>1638406
The original footage was for a never released VHS console. I assume they still have it. It would hardly look "good", but it'd be better quality than whatever is in any version of the games, since they all have large UIs.

No clue if they still have the film or just the tapes, though.

I'm curious; what VHS console would that have been? And by who was it supposed to be released by?

He's probably talking about the Nemo. Hasbro bought the rights from the guys who developed it, but abandoned it before going to market because it was costing them too much money.

Only noteworthy thing that came out of the project was Sewer Shark, which was originally supposed to be a launch game for the system.

There is an existing one...

The film plays independent of the "game" and at the end you are scored for your input.

I don't know the specifics of what Night Trap was actually designed for or how it would have worked, but it couldn't have worked the same as the game we actually got.

Magnetic tape is just a data storage medium, man, just less efficient than CDs. Spectrum games came on cassette tapes.

>> No.1639072

>>1639065
As a note, cassette games work differently than the action max. The action max uses the VHS tape for video, while games on cassette stored the program data and loaded it to memory (over the course of an entire day spent loading) from the tape.

For one thing, they're not even own by the same company, so it's a false parallel. As for why Konami/KojiPro haven't re-released Snatcher, (while Policenauts is on the Japanese PSN) I'm guessing they're afraid that they might get sued by the owners of Blade Runner or something.

>> No.1642012

I'm guessing they couldn't get the rights to that

Neither are "Sega CD games", they are both multiplats on a half a dozen systems. They are just best known for those versions, which, in the case of Night Trap (though not Snatcher) is the worst.

Rights issues, mostly. There's a lot of imagery and plot concepts bordering on infringement and Kojima's pretty much said he doesn't want to test the waters and risk getting sued.

ive not played the original but ive bbeen meaning to get around to it

the only reason im interested is because of the uproar the game caused, the historical significance and the retro appearance of the cutscenes all those would be lost in a remake so they would have to do a damn good job to make me interested in the release

>> No.1649945

>> No.1650592

>>1649937
Dunno if you can call em cutscenes, since the whole game consists of Full Motion Video.

I'm positive the negative reaction to the game sold a bunch of copies. Mortal Kombat got the same bump before people knew it was a good fighter. MA-13 was very enticing for elementary kids.

>> No.1652674

>>1650592
the appearance of the videos then i guess

and yeah making a big deal of this sort of thing only serves to spread ignorance among people who care (albeit often too much) and cause a case of "don't o this cool thing" hat makes the game more popular with some kids as its more frowned upon
