Um.. /vr/ this might be a stupid question, but... Is it ok if I really enjoy this game. I get how jumping is clunky but I kinda like it. I would put it on no.3 on my favourite Castle Vania games. Am I the only one.

Wouldn't place it as one of the best Castlevania entries, but I also enjoyed it. Controls are clunky, but the art direction and atmosphere is brilliant. I love the survival horror-esque bits in it.
I like it a lot better than the Lords of Shadows games for sure.

I had some fun with the game, but there are so many things wrong with it and there's no way I'd label it a favourite Castlevania. Also the jumping is the least of the problems, it's actually close to how it works in a 2D game. The issues are the controls, the camera, some of the stages, the camera, the lock-on system and the slowdowns.

Incidentally, what's your #1 and #2?

That's AVGN being retarded. OK, so to place Mandragora or Nitro you press, wait for it, the Use key in the place it needs to go. Now, here's the thing he could've made a real anger fit about: If you try to blow up the sealed cracked wall, the wall does not die. What you're supposed to do first is find out how to deactivate the seal and where. But if you didn't know that, then you get to do the Nitro sequence again! Despite that, it's probably one of my favourite stages next to the ones after it. Platforming is one of the things the game does OK.

Man, bought this and Legacy of Darkness at launch, and i'll always find them more fun than anything Koji Igarashi puked from his rotten stomach.

Multiple characters done right, perfect atmosphere, challenging at times. Dat feeling of adventure and that eerie feeling that's there in the whole adventure. It was just fantastic for me.

Replaying Legacy of Darkness on my CRT right now. Shame that my composite cable is lost, but it's not half bad with RF.

>> No.1634141

I enjoyed them too. They were terribly flawed (poor camera, clunky controls, mediocre graphic for it's time) but I think they were more interesting than other 3ds entries like ""Lament of Innocence"...

Was with you up until that point. Granted, LoI had issues(my only issue ever was the platforming), but when you have Curse of Darkness and Lords of Shadow...Lament is not as bad as you make it seem. Besides, I feel it made a better origins story for the timeline than LoS(or, for some people, better than Legends).

it improved a lot from LoI but the downside was that both LoI and CoD had almost no platforming while CV64 had a lot. It would have helped with gamemechanics variety (not that it didn't have any but it the maps would have been more diverse)

Taste is taste after all, but to me Igarashi only watered down the Castlevania series with the same repetitive gameplay and level design, lack of challenge and half assed plots with characters that had a lot of wasted potential. Not to mention again those "extra modes" that basically gave you a demigod to wander the castle with. Only Dawn of Sorrow got this right.

Konami Kobe got right atmosphere, challenge and gameplay. If only they polished Legacy of Darkness gameplay a bit we would be talking about a masterpiece here. Kobevanias are 3DVania and Metroidvania done right

Castlevania 64 is probably one of my favorite Castlevania games. It's like mixing Super Mario 64 and OoT together. It has a little bit of everything from platforming, combat and puzzle solving.

That being said, it's not an approachable game. Watching anyone try to play Castlevania 64 for their first time is a disaster, hence why I think everyone hates it, minus the general early 3D stuff like "ugly graphics, terrible camera, etc.."

You have to be willing to put up with a lot of punishment if you want to like Castlevania 64, but it's pretty awesome once you learn the ins and outs of the controls to make it playable.

I think the worst part of Legacy of Darkness is that the pacing is really bad for Cornell's story. There's an escort mission and the Egyptian maze is a bit of a pain to get through.
