Nah. You should have a metric shitload of mega-elixers at this point and its only a matter of spamming your strongest attacks and miming. At least Lavos has mechanics in it.

My vote probably goes to the entire fight sequence vs. Liquid in MGS. The entire buildup is insane throughout the whole game then you fight him basically twice in the fucking Rex, then you fist fight his ass, THEN he comes after you in a fucking jeep before he dies.

Then if you wanna be pretty retro, Tyson in Mike Tysons Punch Out is a very worthy final boss.

Come on man. If Neo Exdeath doesn't have mechanics then Lavos sure does neither. Neo Exdeath can be fiendishly brutal to first-time players, punishes some of the strongest attacks in the game (Rapid Fire and Meteor), can easily wipe you out with statuses and Almagests and is generally a bitch requiring trial-and-error unless you have been overleveling and generally preparing for the battle beforehand. If Neo Exdeath isn't challenging, then no RPG boss ever is.

>literally throwing money at the final boss to win
Lavos' mechanics are you can only really damage the right pod after taking out one of the other pods, then he uses active life that reduces the defense of the right pod. It might be a shitty mechanic, but if you're not super high level it makes the fight a gauntlet and risky.

The Final fantasy end bosses are almost always:

>super strong attacks
>tons of health
>some attack that puts everyone to 1 health
Something along those lines, which, if you realize its the final boss, should be trivial to deal with, because you can just spam all the shit you got throughout the game, like Mega elixers and shit.

>>1624236
>try and fight Phalanx.
>without the legendary crest
Because Phalanx is a joke with the Crest of Heaven, and you get it after beating his secondary form which requires 100% the game basically. Then you fight the REAL final boss>>1623509 this motherfucker, which basically requires you to use the Crest of Heaven to even stand a chance, and even with all Ginseng potions its still hard as fuck.

Neo Exdeath really isn't challenging, unless maybe you're underleveled and didn't bother to learn many class abilities. There are several ways to cheapshot him: Spam Coin Toss, spam 4x attack while dual-wielding, spam Quick + Bahamut, etc.

Lavos is one of the silliest final bosses. It's rather anticlimactic to fight a man-sized alien creature after giving Lavos all that build up as a world destroying, time traveling harbinger of the apocalypse.

And honestly Neo Exdeath is at least somewhat different. His lots of HP are divided among several parts each of which has its own pattern of different status/damage spells, his ultimate attack inflicts random statuses as opposed to lots of damage etc...not trying to fanboy it out here, but he really is different and still fairly challenging and requiring a strategy unless you're min-maxing, at least he felt to me. Coin Toss was a poor design decision. It's literally gamebreaking enough to be tantamount to cheating. It can be used to cheat your way out of the final boss, yes...but I really feel like it's the same as using the pause exploit to instantly kill all forms of Kefka with Slots.

>spam 4x attack while dual-wielding
Neo Exdeath has invisible parts that are there JUST to soak up Meteor and Rapid Fire attacks. It's really suboptimal to Rapid Fire him as there's a chance you won't deal any damage to him at all.

It's a moot point, though. You're still going to hit the vulnerable parts enough times. I had my level 50 party using this tactic, and Neo Exdeath went down pretty quickly after a few rounds of attack spam.

As for Grand Cross, there's plenty of equipment that allows you to resist status effects. Just stack the most crucial resistances, like instant K.O., petrification, etc.

I take it we are looking for challenging final bosses then, is Mike Tyson from Punchout! challenging enough for you?

As a sidenote have any of you actually tried beating Zeromus without powerleveling like hell beforehand? Its harder than you think especially after you realize there aren't any real exploits even in the "piss easy" version of FFIV. There are no megaelixirs or mimic commands nor you can just throw money at it until it dies like you can do with Neo Exdeath with a severely underleveled party in FFV.

The minumum level to beat Zeromus is 40, where Rosa learns Cure 4.
Without it you just can't survive against him, period.
Make Rydia attack with Artemis arrows, since if you pummel Zeromus with magic he always will counter with his own.
Make Edge throw the Spoon Dagger to him for 9999 damage and then throw him all of your ninja stars, make Kain Jump at him and Cecil attack/use Elixirs on Rosa whenever her hp or mp run low, since if she dies you are boned.

That doesn't make sense. The battle isn't challenging unless you *purposefully* make it challenging by restricting your level or equipment. Do people really tend to grind THAT much? On most of my playthroughs my party was usually in low 40s.

Also bear in mind I never said that Zeromus is particularly challenging (especially if you are at correct levels and have prober equipment) I just think he is pretty good final boss as the lead up to the fight against him is pretty memorable (at least to people like me who played FFII as kids in the early 90s) and he can sometimes fuck up a properly prepared party that isn't ridiculously overleveled.

I made a detailed FAQ about 7th Saga. I hacked the Wind Rune and found several unused towns in the game. When talking to NPCs, they mostly give either garbled txt or crash the game, but I've always been curious about them. 7thS is a fairly decent, albeit difficult, game.

>Melzas
>good final boss
I don't think so Tim.

I think Alundra is actually a great game, arguably the best "Zelda" style game since Zelda 1. But holy shit, Melzas' is not a good final boss.

Dragon isn't "Melzas" but lets include it anyways.
>Equip Nava's charm and you're immune to his fire
Which means the only way to take damage is for him to hit you, and hes incredibly easy to dodge, using the charged holy sword hes not difficult

>Melzas P1
>Equip fire wand
>Charge it
>Literally attack either the first one or last one that appears and he will never get an attack in

>Melzas 2
Literally the end game, so you may as well just spam Fire book 5 times and win.

Shittiest thing about Alundra was it started out hard boss and enemy wise, then it gets way too fucking easy. Alundra's difficulty comes from its cryptic puzzle difficulty and very difficult jumping puzzles.

I liked the FF games, but those unidentifiable masses of arms and sinews that were used as end bosses weren't exactly well designed. Out of the classic FF bosses, Kefka was the best because he had an identifiable form once you beat the horrors beneath him. And yeah, so did Sephiroth, but he was really derivative.

>>1624782
Your "ship" there is a much more memorable final boss. Unless you are just talking about the bullet patterns.

In any event, I think Capcom came up with a pretty cool way to fight a huge ass Dragon in a beat em up. They re-used the idea in their later D&D games, too.
