A bunch of the manuals for the games

Visiting my local market for the first time tomorrow. Hoping to find some Gamecube or Gameboy games.

The market opens at 6:00am, should I arrive as early as possible or wait until it picks up? I can't imagine many people getting up at 6:00am just to sell some old games.

Also, how long do you guys spend looking around? Do you hang around most of the day and wait for other sellers to arrive?

look on your local classifieds website, mine is KSL.com
Make a list thursday of all your garage sales for Friday, get to the multi-family ones about 10-15 minutes early. Call ahead the night before if they list "video games" in the listing, and ask what they have.

Just make a list, GPS it, and have fun. Its about having fun with friends, about the fun of the hunt. Not about anything else.

Every time I see an ad for a sale on Craigslist, it's always placed on the same day of the sale, and I find the ad a couple hours after it was placed. I'm sure everything good was already taken before I was even aware of it.

Most everything around me was built in the early 60s and pickings are slim, too many dead retirees having estate sales. Oh well some of them have laserdiscs at least.

I wholeheartedly disagree.

That said I was at 15 garage sales today, but no luck. Didn't buy a thing. Only things I came across that would be buyable were:

-Big Box PC games
-007 Nightfire disc only for Gamecube
-An endless supply of Xbox and 360 games, all shapes and sizes

I passed on the PC games because even though a lot of them seemed in good shape, the games themselves were shitty. There was one that caught my eye (A Might and Magic game, don't worry, not 2 or 3) but I felt it could go to someone else who might enjoy it better. I'm not a reseller, and luckily resellers are rare in my side of the city, so hopefully it finds a good home. The 007 game the guy wanted $5 for it, which I couldn't justify for a dirty, scratched up, average, disc-only game. I also don't play Xbox games.

That's how it can be though. A couple weeks ago, I managed to snag 4 great GCN games for $5 a piece, so the summer is looking good overall so far.

I'm getting worried though. Even old women seem to be aware that games are worth something now. How will prices proceed from here?

I put the Craigslist notifier app on my android.

I use craigsnotifica (which was removed from play store a while ago). It scans for keyboards every 15 minutes, and pops up a notification if there's a hit.

I've picked up the vast majority of my retro finds on craigslist from this app. I've had better success with it than garage sales.

The app is below. It's a bit buggy sometimes, but it's fantastic when it works. I set my keywords really broad so it picks up anything by nintendo. Most of the time it is people selling their old DS, but if you don't mind a few false positives, it works great.

It was a 55ish year old woman. She said her kids moved out of state to college and "they are into the new ps3's and xboxes".

I checked the games. They were immaculate. Not a single damaged cartridge. I quickly paid and boogied out of there. She has my phone number because I texted her during the week asking if she had any old games (dunno why she listed it in the CL post, but she did).

I feel pretty dirty. Her kid is going to find out what she did and flip the fuck out. Hopefully it's not for several months so I don't get a panicked series of texts begging for the games back.

At least they went to a good home with me and not some reseller scum...r.r.right guys?

Don't feel dirty. Even if she was aware of the prices they go for, most people put things for sale at a garage sale to get rid of stuff without having to do it themselves and maybe make a little cash. I've been to a garage sale one time where a lady wanted to sell a fridge and when I said no, she offered it for free because she just simply didn't want it anymore.

She's not gonna text you back for the games, she probably won't remember the number anyway because she won't care anymore. She'll most likely deal with her kids on her own if they make a fuss, older parents are pretty firm on things like this.

I got 2 Playstations with 6 controllers (4 dualshock and two original stickless) a liughtgun and 6 games for £10 with a bunch of av cables, and since a generic power is used i just plug my dreamcast or ps2 ac into them and they both work fine

last saturday i bought a gamegear for a fiver as the gameboy i was looking at was a tenner without a game even (i have gameboy games and a GBC i just thought it would be nice to have an original GB but not at that price)

as i guessed the game gear (which came with a sega 4 in 1 cart btw) didn't work (the woman selling it said she couldnt test it or didnt have the time but with game already in it she just needed 6 AA batteries so i smell BS)

the start button wouldnt work so i disassmbled the game gear and scraped and cleaned at the start buttons contact until a connection could be made and now it works, the system wont turn on with batteries only AC and the speaker doesnt work but i ca get sound with headphones

i think i did good with the playstatino but im not too sure about game gear, itys not working perfect att the moment but it looks like i might be able to get it running just right

I bought a NTSC NES without any cables at a local flea-market. I live in Europe so I am wondering if I can use a PAL ac adapter for it? or do I need to get a American adapter and a step down converter?

I got a N64 and a pile of games for $25 a few weeks ago, I'm sure they thought they were scamming me because it didn't work when I tried it the first time. One cartridge slot cleaning later though, it was just fine.

Also got an original Game Boy for a dollar because it wouldn't turn on, just had lines on the screen. That was because the batteries in it were 20 years old, but of course I didn't tell them that.

If PAL adapters output 9 volts AC and have the same tip, you can use it.

I think it had the same tip, but doesn't the NTSC NES use 9 volt DC?

That is a very good point. I thoroughly cleaned every connection before I tested anything out.

The old NES with loose connectors now works better than my replaced 72connector NES

No. It uses 9V AC. The American NES power supply will fuck up most other electronic devices you plug it into.

The season just started here... My first weekend wasn't that good, I usually search for older stuff but I had to buy that for the price it was... I paid $100 for all of that. The nes work number one, its the second "perfect" nes I find so this will be my backup...

You need to recap the GG.

It's not too hard and it only takes about 90 minutes.

Got these for $23 today. Not mind-blowing, but I'm pretty pleased considering they came from a booth dedicated to selling games.

My boyfriend also got a Gamecube with all the fixin's for $25.

Not him, but saying you are a girl or saying you have a bf is bait on here regardless of if it is true or not. There are hundreds of frustrated virgins who will see your post as trolling.

Don't do it. Its best for you, me and everyone else.
