Retro scenery thread?

I always loved the background of old games, especially ones that you could see large distances or city scapes or things like that.

Retro ones feel and look a bit nicer to look at the current gen ones in my opinon.

This is from SoR, but it's made into a 1080p wallpaper.

I always thought A Boy and his Blob for NES had an interesting look to the backgrounds. Kinda ugly but going for a photorealistic style in areas. I assume they did use digitized photographs for the skyline at least, I'd be curious how they made most of the graphics in the game.
