It also helps that Square and Konami hate the everloving shit out of Nintendo, creating a case of "either you die a hero or live to become the villain". Both companies transformed into this horrifying mutations, and this would not have been the case had they still been under Nintendo's strict control. Sony opened Pandora's box, and now everyone pays for it.
