Zero Games > Mega Man (Original) > X Series

The Zero games are four games of just tight action. Each game getting better than the last, building and expanding on ideas while trimming the fat. The same could be said for the original MM series, but I feel like the formula begins to wain a little as there are well over 10 entries in the series, but there are a lot of good games in there and hardly any ones I could say are truly "bad".

X-Series had the biggest promise but the biggest failures. From tired formulas, to character driven plots, to trying to reinvent themselves with almost new entry. I just can't care about the X Series as a whole anymore and really only have two favorites in it.

I'd argue just the opposite. Since Capcom could pump out so many of them, the average MM game is kinda lame. There's nothing worse than when the MM formula just is not working. Lame music, lame stages, same old, same old. But when it comes together? Bam. Best thing ever.

It's got a slapdash bag of weapons (most of which just fire straight forward at slightly different speeds), the stage designs are extremely dull, it's clear that they never finished programming the Proto Man fights, and the Wily fortress is the worst of the series. It also has the buggiest engine of the series with the most slowdown.

Hooty-hoot unpopular opinions time:
Megaman X is terrible, it's like the "Shadow the Hedgehog" of Megaman. Childishly dark and edgy, EXTREEEEME, and a sophomore attempt at serious political drama. The dash mechanic completely ruined any challenge the series might have had; in theory it should make boss fights more fast-paced and dynamic, but in practice, most of bosses seem to have been designed under the assumption that the player can't dash or wallclimb.
