Welcome to the Retro Game Gauntlet, gentlemen.

Start at NES, and work through in the following order:
NES
SNES
GB/GBC
Megadrive/Genesis
Turbografx16
DOS
NeoGeo
GBA
Commodore 64
Playstation 1

You have three days to complete the game without assistance (each game gets three days, though RPGs are allowed a week due to length).

Select your system here:
http://s3kr.it/gauntlet.html

You can also do it manually if you don't trust the random number generator:
http://s3kr.it/systems/

Rules:
1) Savestates are allowed ONLY for the purpose of taking screenshots and ONLY if your emulator/game in question does not have a pause function.
2) Rerolls are allowed under the following conditions:
-The game you get requires some sort of hardware functionality that cannot be accurately emulated to complete (eg, Boktai)
-The game would otherwise require cheats, hacks, or alteration of the software to complete due to a bug (eg, Cheetahmen II)
For games that have a high score or no end, the rule is
>if no high score has been established, set a goal and beat it
>if you.re playing something another anon already has a high score on, beat their high score
>if you are playing extended rpgs/pokemon/whatever you get a week (Depending on the game: needs to be asked in thread)

AND BRING ME SCREENSHOTS PARKER

IRC channel: #gauntlet on irc.rizon.net (Mibbit link on site)

NEW RULES/GUIDELINES TO POSTING IN THE GAUNTLET THREADS:

-Do not post screenshots every other screen, make them few and meaningful
-Do not start a new thread before current one bump limit is exceeded

This. This right here. If it was a list of all the fun and enjoyable games, then people would keep playing and not stop after a half hour or so. The Gauntlet should be about bragging rights, and there are no bragging rights to having beaten Barbie's Adventure or some shit.

The lists need to be pruned. The garbage needs to be removed. That is the only way the gauntlet will ever last more than 20-30 posts a thread. Take out the game show games, take out the educational games, take out the really bad games, make the list something where every game is worth playing. It's supposed to be about a random challenge, not hoping you get a game that is actually fun to play.

But we have a few purists, who apparently don't even do the gauntlet anymore, who complain that the list should be "truly random". I implore the person hosting the lists to stop being held back by people who obviously aren't going to play anyways. Lets fix the lists and get the gauntlet some life again.

also: my robot has a huge electro dong? lolwtf

Good points so far: You won't die if you have collected an extra piece of "magmax"? You just lose that chunk. Also it seems destroying enemies isn't that much of a priority. Just avoid them and most sail on past.

Purist here, and veteran of the pre-/vr/ Gauntlet. People play for different reasons. Those who play for fun don't like to experience the harsh punishment of the original Gauntlet (back to square one) or the rough side of the systems. That's fine and all, but these are he same people that aren't going to keep doing the Gauntlet. When it gets too hard, or frustrating they simply leave or reroll.

I'm the sort who likes to see all sides of retro gaming, including the ugly and mediocre. I ran the gauntlet many times, but left when it turned into a sort of hugbox for the just-fun sorts. Just started running the Gauntlet in real life with friends instead, with a modified ruleset since we all work long hours. Every week on Wednesday we pick a new game at random from the current Gauntlet theme (NES this time) and have a week to beat it. Next week, it repeats. Last man standing wins, we take a week off, then it's back to business.

This week it was Darkwing Duck. Last week was TaleSpin, which was mediocre, but fun to talk about and figure out, with some pleasant art surprises later in the game.

High score games require you to beat either the top score in the game, or the high score of the last person to do so in the Gauntlet. This is an awesome rule.

The unwritten rule has always been that edutainment can be rerolled. Some choose to stick with it because it's funny.

The fundamental problem with any attempt ot prune the lists is that someone is, essentially, deciding what is fun for others. Of course there are some shoe-ins that the vast majority agree on. Chances are, those games are already heavily discussed on this board as it is. The more you trim the list, the more you run the risk of depriving someone of an unexpected favorite.

For example: someone recommended taking out sports and game shows. There's too many of the former, it was noted. You know why? Because they sold. Because plenty of people loved them. Game shows? I love old game show video games (and new ones), bullshit and all.

But what about those hard games? The poorly made ones? Jekyll and Hyde is in this very thread, after all. But some people like the challenge. It's fun for them. It's that little moment of fear when you realize you could lose the Gauntlet. There's no denying that challenge, even unfair challenge, is a huge part of the retro experience.

High score games being taken out? That's going to take quite a few puzzle games off the list. Edutainment? That one I can see, but again, some of us actually played those games when we were little kids. An addendum to the rules allowing rerolls of edutainment would be fine.

tl;dr the gauntlet shouldn't be about someone deciding what other people might find fun. This is hardly the first time it's been suggested, and it's always shot down for the same reasons. At the end of the day, ain't a motherfucker in this thread gonna play something that makes him or her unhappy.

In regards to helping to revive the gauntlet, I think the pruned playlist of essentials and highly-rated games among /vr/ would not be a bad idea, but also have the purist playlist (for people like me) who want to have that extra added challenge. Given that the threads keep dying with barely anyone playing, this really isn't a concern. You are saying we shouldn't try to inject life into the Gauntlet just because some possible potential player might not play a game they like because it got pruned? That's not really a good reason. And we haven't even decided on a method yet, why are you jumping to the idea of one person deciding?

>For example: someone recommended taking out sports and game shows. There's too many of the former, it was noted. You know why? Because they sold. Because plenty of people loved them. Game shows? I love old game show video games (and new ones), bullshit and all.
No, I recommended taking out the game show ports, someone else recommended the sports games. Re-read. As for the game show ports, the gauntlet is supposed to be about challenge, not Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.
I said nothing against hard games. Poorly designed shit can be enjoyed by some people, but that doesn't mean that it's enjoyed by most. And this is the part you don't seem to be understanding, things like this are the reason the gauntlet threads last 20-30 posts on average and then die. Because most people DON'T enjoy poorly designed games.

part 2.
As to unfair challange being a part of retro gaming, no. Unfair challange has always been a part of bad game design, so has boring and cut and paste levels, but that doesn't mean I consider bad levels to be an essential part of the "experience".

>High score games being taken out? That's going to take quite a few puzzle games off the list. Edutainment? That one I can see, but again, some of us actually played those games when we were little kids. An addendum to the rules allowing rerolls of edutainment would be fine.
I never said anything about high-score games, but I could see where someone might not want to spend three days playing Tetris trying to beat someone else's high score just to move on. And since the gauntlet is about challange, what would be the point of the edutainment games? If you wanna go nostalgia trip, go for it, but why waste everyone else's time?
>tl;dr the gauntlet shouldn't be about someone deciding what other people might find fun. This is hardly the first time it's been suggested, and it's always shot down for the same reasons. At the end of the day, ain't a motherfucker in this thread gonna play something that makes him or her unhappy.
And nothing changes, the gauntlet is still averaging 20-30 posts a thread and then dying. Doing the same thing over and over hasn't fixed the problem yet has it? So the solution is to continue to do nothing?

Like I said, due to some people not wanting any changes, the gauntlet is in a state of stasis. If no one else wants to prune the lists, I'll do it myself. Hell, I'll offer a prize to the first winner.

Hardcore's making fun of casuals, casuals making fun of purists, and just splitting the population in general. It's not hard to imagine the hardcore players referring to their list as the true gauntlet.

None if this is my concern, really; I just do a private gauntlet these days with friends. Making this week's prize as I type, actually.

>> No.1608393

>>1608374
That's a good point. With that idea in mind, it would be tough to make any sort of different list for people to use for the gauntlet, since there will always be an unsatisfied party.

And I also do gauntlet just by myself, and I could continue to do it myself, but I just feel that having people do these sorts of challenges somewhere around the world, and we tell our stories and experiences about them is kind of fun, especially with more obscure games. Even if I enjoy this, I can understand the decline for these threads.

>> No.1608417

>>1608393

That's the other, dirty side to the gauntlet: the thread is often just a bunch of people yelling their progress into the thread, with little actual discussion, due either to lack of interest or familiarity. Half the time it's just people describing the game. It's mildly interesting, but rarely conducive. When I used to run it on /vr/, I made gifs of end bosses and victories, along with mosaics. People seemed to like that. Encouraging webms of gameplay and including a guide to making them would help more than most other options.

>> No.1608438

>>1608417
Yeah. Some of the people sharing weren't always the best at sharing their progress, or people wouldn't care enough to inquire. That's certainly a big problem with the gauntlet, and why it would perhaps be better with a close group of friends.

Still, I feel that it is partially the case that little discussion happens in gauntlet threads because there is a lot of inactivity in these threads. I suppose if there was a way to get people interested in it, that would be great, but it's difficult to find an answer to that.

>> No.1608491

>>1608438

It's a simple matter of the concept being interesting enough to make many want to try, but long-term only attracts a very small number who are happy to carry on their own if the threads die. The concept of the gauntlet is fundamentally flawed, and was almost addressed by another thread that tried to become regular: group play.

The system I and my friends use is simple: once a week a game is selected, and everyone has one week to beat it. You can play for fun (not interested in competing/already eliminated), for victory (to advance to the next round) or for glory (bonus objectives, like high scores or 100% completion). You'd need to have a sign up at the beginning of each gauntlet, track eliminations and have everyone strap a trip on. Some people would cheat; that's inevitable. But it will foster the the thread by providing a weekly common ground. No list pruning needed, because bullshit games are more fun when you have someone you can bitch about them with.

Someone would have to step up and be the organizer. s3krit is the obvious choice, if he's still around.

Ugh, I'm not sure what to do. I've taken the minimum amount of steps possible to get to the ship, then I go straight to the elevator that leads to the cockpit (I tried to close the door to the ship behind me, the game won't let you), but as soon as the door closes, before I can go up, the person with the gun opens the door and shoots me.

I've gotten the vibe you're supposed to hide, but every time I try to hide it says "if you're going to hide there's a better place than [seemingly reasonable location like freezer or locker]" so that feels like the wrong option unless there's a place I just haven't found.

What's the full description of the room you are in?

>> No.1610315

>>1610272
Anything?

>> No.1610325

>>1610284
I'll try to post everything I can.

My inventory is:
>You are wearing some overalls.
>You are carrying a message, a red keycard, a travel bag and a navigation cartridge.

The message just tells you about the crate you have to deliver if you don't want your organs harvested by what I assume is the space mafia, the red keycard opens the pressure door that leads to the ship (you put it in a slot, but there's no slot on the inside so the door stays open), and I haven't gotten a chance to use the navigation cartridge; it was given to me by the courier who game me the message and I assume it's coordinates.
The travel bag has its own inventory:
>The travel bag contains a towel, a code-cracker, a ten credit card and a dog eared leaflet.

Reading the leaflet will just tell you the history of your ship; it was a space liner that got turned into a freighter, fitted with short-range hyperdrives only good for in-system travel, and most passenger rooms turned into cargo spaces.

The first room after entering the ship:

>The Boarding Lounge is where passengers would wait after boarding the ship before being assigned to their staterooms. A short corridor leads south to the pressure door that is the main entrance to the ship, while another hatchaway leads north to the corridor. The lounge itself is furnished with plush couches and a deep carpet that is in desperate need of cleaning. A large graffiti scrawl on the wall says "Welcome Aboard Captain Jonah". You painted it there yourself as you could never bully Babbage, the ship's computer, into saying it.
>Babbage is here.

If you go south it takes you outside. If you go north:
>You are standing at the terminus of a corridor, which continues to the north. There are three hatchways leading to the east, south, and west. The south hatchway leads to the boarding lounge and the main pressure doors, which you can just see from here.

Text limit, will continue in next post.

>> No.1610337

>>1610325
If you go east from there, you go to the Cryo Room:
>You are standing in the cryo storage room, which is used to transport delicate cargos that need to be carried in frozen storage. A freezer stands against one wall, next to a large rack.

If you go west instead, you go to the Crew Dormitory:
>This is the main crew dormitory, where all the menial and engineering staff slept. The gray painted walls are bare, except for the pale patches where their favorite posters hung. All of the bunks have been stripped, and all of the lockers are empty. All pretty sad and lonesome, really. You'd better leave before you get depressed and start crying over your keyboard.

If you went north from the corridor:
>You are standing at a three-way corridor junction next to the fore elevator doors. The doors are to the west, and next to them is an call button on the wall. The corridors run south, east, and northwest.

You have two turns before you're shot at that point. The elevator takes one turn to call, and one turn to step in, so you can't use it.

Going northwest:
>You are standing at a junction in the corridor, from which you can go west, southeast or down. Westwards, a long corridor leads to the engineering deck, while tot he southeast lies the main deck complex. An escalator leads down from your feet to the tube station.

Going east:
>The corridor comes to and end here and three hatchways lead off to the north, east, and south. The corridor leads back west.

Going to any of those places in the northwest or east junctions leads to you being shot right after being described the rooms.

That's about everything I have, sorry for taking so long to type it.

>Freezer
Hide in freezer
Hide behind freezer
Go in Freezer
Go in

>Bed
Hide under Bed
Hide behind bed
Go under bed
Go under
Go down

>Locker
Hide in locker
Go in locker
Go in

Also have you tried any of:

search bed
look under bed
search locker
look in locker
open locker
open freezer
search freezer
look in freezer
look under freezer
look behind freezer

You might have to disable the elevator. Also the towel might have some use. You could try covering yourself with the towel, or hiding underneath it or something. Might only work in a specific room. PErhaps hide in the locker and drape the towel in front to cover? That might be a bit advanced.

Also you might have missed an item you need to beat this puzzle earlier in the game. If none of that works, retry the game and see if you can find any items anywhere else.

I tried all of these commands. The freezer is empty, and there's nothing under/behind it but dust. "Bed" isn't a term, and apparently, despite being mentioned in the room description, I can't see any lockers or bunks. I also tried hiding under the towel/behind the couch, but it told me I could think of better places than that. Going to the bar, I fond a detective flirting with a barmaid, and the barmaid turning him down. The only thing of interest is a plastic mermaid, that I can't take as it's in the back of the bar. Searching things brought up nothing. If you talk to the detective early on you find out a few things about his personal life; I'm not sure if that's important or not.

Also maybe you can talk/flirt to the barmaid? I think her name might be Kerry.

I went on my ship, and rather than getting shot by the detective, I ended up being arrested by the weaselly man. Still a game over, but things turned out completely differently and I think I got some extra turns. If I plan things out I might be able to follow the detective further and maybe live longer.

Well, you have to take the cargo to a destination, so I'd imagine once you got off you'd have to bring your cargo to the destination, which will likely have its own problems since, given someone knows you have the cargo, will likely be difficult.

Okay, so so far I've examined all the rooms to the east of the three-way corridor described in >>1610337 and other than a repair manual, there's nothing to interact with there. I'll take the northwest path next.

I examined the fridge, and it says the model is outdated and doesn't affect the temperature much, but it says nothing about it being broken.

Going west, there's nothing of note besides a small bottle (and it takes six turns to get to that room; seven inputs seems egregious on top of the five turns it takes to get the manual, so I think I'll forego it unless I see a puzzle that explicitly needs a small bottle) and a life system unit that it won't let you fiddle with. I went down the escalator, and ended up in a new location:

>You are standing on the platform of the main deck tube station. On a small pole, in front of you, is the call button, beyond which are the tube car rails. An escalator leads up tot he main deck proper behind you to the south.

It appears there's nowhere to go besides taking the tubes, so I'm about to see where that goes.

Yeah I found a translation patch quite easily.

This seems to be standard JRPG fare; I've played all the old Final Fantasies and Mother and shit but never touched a DQ game. For some reason I recruit party members at a tavern? Are they permanent or can be they be killed and replaced or what?

Basically if anyone has any big tips for DQ3 it'd be swell.

Because I completed my NES game?

This game seems like it's going to be very long. I have Bort (Hero), Klugman (Mage), Nancy (Cleric), and Crow (Fighter). So far its pretty easy.

>> No.1613125

>>1612615
>>1613116

Yeah that game is really long. This game is second only to Dragon Quest 7 for being the longest Dragon Quest game, but IMO its the best one so you're in for some fun.

Sadly you haven't played Dragon Quests 1 and 2 first so you won't catch/understand the huge twist when it happens. But that's ok.

>Are they permanent or can be they be killed and replaced or what?

Yeah they are permanent, they just allow you to make a bunch of characters because there's a class change system later on in the game that makes the characters more unique than just their current class.

>> No.1613126

>>1613116

What kind of name is Bort?

>> No.1613131

>>1613116

Oh and here's a tip: the personality of each character influences their stat gains, so you want to manage them somewhat in order to make sure that they get a personality that matches their class. For instance, if you have a mage that has a Tough personality, then they will probably end up with more strength and less intelligence than you want.

But you can change each characters personality by using books that you find.

>> No.1613135

>>1613131

You just helped me so, so much. I was not getting what all these "personality" books were for. My Hero is "Lazy", what does that mean?

Also there is no menu that tells you what items actually do, so unless the name is obvious it's very frustrating. I figured out that "Wing of Wyvern" returns you to the last town.

>> No.1613140

>>1613135

I don't know specifically about "Lazy", but it doesnt sound like it will give you anything good. I remember that the personalities aren't balanced; some are objectively better than others, and some are just plain bad, with poor gains all around. Lazy is most likely one of those. So I'd try and change that one pretty damn quick.

Not okay at all. Basically you have to beat four minigames to find four keys and save Mrs. Piggy from Dr. Grump.

In the first minigame you control Kermit and try to avoid obstacles as you scroll downriver on a boat. It's fairly easy and short. The only problem is that any collision sends you into a lengthy stun with a very short invincibility period, making you get hit repeatedly and likely die after every collision. Oh, and the obstacles are randomly generated, so you're fully in the mercy of the computer here, as it can just block the river with obstacles without any room to maneuver and not get hit.

The controls and physics here are just bullshit, the steering is atrocious, and the placement of the obstacles don't help matterss. Thankfully the screen doesn't scroll automatically here so you can just slowly edge your way bit by bit. I did just that as the controls in this segment are worse than fucking Holocaust. It's also 20 times longer than the boat segment and is sadistic, boring and repetitive. I don't think it's possible to beat it moving faster than at a snail's pace.

Oh, and you have enemies shooting at you while you can barely control your piece of shit of a spaceship. Health pickups are generously placed throughout the level, but it's still even worse than the bumper car one, even longer, tedious and painful to play. After you beat the first 4 minigames you are thrown into the last platforming stage where you control Kermit wielding a feather(?) that does jackshit. You shuffle forth through a castle and avoid fireballs, bats and ants, occasionally jumping on platforms. This segment suffers from the same awful choppy controls, you can fall through platforms and when you die, you respawn mid-pitfall and instantly die again unless you react within the tiny window.

The boss on the screencap is unbeatable as far as I'm concerned. You're supposed to hit him to knock him back and off the platforms, but whenever you move, you either fall through the platforms and die or get hit yourself, get knocked off, and die. I see no way to beat him except maybe suicide-hitting him repeatedly, and I have way too little lives/rides to manage that. Did I mention that a game over sends you all the way back and you have to beat the 4 atrocious minigames all over again? Rerolling. Never touch this rancid, rotten piece of donkey shit. Gee willikers! Now THAT clears things up! Yeah no thanks, that game was legitimately a rancid piece of shit. I don't care for difficulty, but I do care for quality.

Rerolling, but exams are up soon so I think I'll have to shelve whatever comes up until afterwards.

Every fucking time. Someone tries to revive the Gauntlet, and almost immediately there are fucking barbarians at the gate, wailing and tearing at their hair because they rolled some bullshit. If you didn't want the risk of some poorly-coded pile, then you never wanted to run the gauntlet in the first place. Use s3krit's list to roll games if you want, but don't shit up a thread because you don't like the rules that are stated in the opening fucking post.

You're the same breed that rerolls later down the line by abusing the vr-minted one-step-back rule for failure. That's not a gauntlet. That's a fucking line dance you do until you happen to like the steps.

Just remember: small children can and did beat the game you threw the towel in on.

This game is unrelenting. Literally the 2nd mini boss was the hardest mini boss in the game so far and the hardest mini boss I've ever played against. This crap is dark souls on steroids. You miss once and you're over in that battle. The fourth mini boss was unrelenting and the fourth boss is extremely hard (moveset) with screen tilt, a large ranged jump kick that could kill you pretty easily, and a barrage attack. Hilariously, you would think a Disney game would be pretty easy, but NOPE! Not this one! The music's pretty good though, and I particularly love the second level's music though. Ideally, one weapon has stood out as the best: the hammer. No score thankfully, but there's coins, hearts, love potions (rare), and apples, so for me, my "score" would be pretty low because I had to continue so often. I'm about 2/3rds the way done with about 6 stages and I'm on the fourth. It's in glorious Nippon language, so I don't understand the plot. Here's a cute picture of Donald as a peak of the game (you can play as either Donald or Mickey). It's from the second level.

And with that the adventure comes to a close. The world is safe and the princess is begging for some hot dickings (really, she does).

While it didn't bring anything new, even for its time, to the table, this was a pretty solid Zelda clone. I can't see myself every wanting to play it again but if you want a light action adventure that you don't have to stress your braincells on, I'd definitely recommend it.

The CPU is a cheating fucker who never gets a foul despite beating up half your team, the player you control randomly swaps even if you manually pick them and it never swaps to the one you need, the CPU goalie recovers from dives almost immediately while your goalie will lie on the floor for five seconds doing nothing and stealing the ball will result in you getting stunlocked by the other team an unable to pass or kick until you lose the ball.

Goddamn. Crystal Mines is the only NES gamne to drop me, but this might be the second. For those who don't know: the final obstgacle course is basically a button-mashing nightmare, which wouldn't be so bad if a) the buttons you have to mash didn't change b) sometimes you don't mash and c) you often have to mash alternating buttons, so none of the usual tricks work.

Hi! About a year ago I was into doing this, and I got quite far, but I ended up stopping once I got to DOS. I've tried again a few times in smaller threads, but just never got anywhere. But this one looks good.

Pic is what I rolled. Really. You see, Racket Attack is the first game I played a year ago and completed. I'll sum it up as a monotonous and unrewarding tennis game that dragged on and on since I had to play several full matches, losing a few times until I got AI patterns down. Joyful.

So I decided to reroll, and well, I guess I got quite lucky. I have the cart, so I'll probably be playing it on actual NES. I'm not going to post too often because of this, and because pretty much everyone knows the game already.

Confession before I go: I've never completed an original Mega Man game besides 7, though I've gotten close. This'll be neat.

Rolled NES and got this neat gem of platformer, having great fun but it's kicking my ass, You play as a mech or some shit that can invert gravity, and ceiling walk mother fucker. Other than the neat gimmick the game has some really great level design, each Stage feels like their own, that need to be memorized to beat. Then again I suck fucking dick, so... keep that in mind.

Atm I'm on stage 6-2, and by far it's my favorite level.Have already got to the boss once but I'm not sure how to take the cunt down. Will update you late duders.

I need to get some rest, so for right now here's where I am.

- Top Man and Magnet Man both done (both quite easy)
- All others have at least been attempted
- Shadow Man is what I've been working on the most. Easy stage, just gotta get Shadow Man himself down.
- Tried Needle, had a hard time with the boss, but I also want the E-Tank in the stage.
- Spark Man a bit harder than shadow, and Snake Man along with his stage are both annoying.
- Can't do Hard Man and Gemini Man yet. The latter was annoying to find out, as it was near the end of a stage.

Can't believe I put this off for so long, it's darn good. Hard, but fair for the most part.

Really, is AVGN just bad at games or did he not read the manual for this?

>> No.1623637

>>1623613

Never seen AVGN, but 90% of the problems people have with retro games can be traced to not reading the manual.

It was a different time, though. By the 16/32 bit era, game designers were savvy enough to start integrating how to play into the level design, games had been around long enough to develop common, recognizable behavior and gamers were more savvy. Now there are straight up tutorials in games. Back then? I remember Magic Candle coming with a fucking book.

First thing I do on any gauntlet roll is go find a copy of the manual and read it.

Yeah it's an RPG which is why I asked; was hoping somebody in here would be familiar enough with it to give an accurate estimate on playtime instead of the default "it's an RPG have 7 days"

It seems like a weird Nobunaga-esque deal, with famous Chinese warlords as characters and "armies" as hit points, and hitting A brings up a menu with Talk/CheckFormation/General/Item.

My starting party of three had weapons and armour in their personal inventories right out of the gate but none of it was equipped so I had to hit A -> Item -> team member -> item in their inventory -> Equip and then it closed the menu out completely it seems incredibly clunky. I'm not really sure what the fuck I'm doing.

Well I have the first battle of the game recorded as a webm but 4chan is being a bitch and won't let me upload it, so I'll have to summarize here:
It's really bad and is essentially a battle against RNG; I have five warlords on my side and I'm facing three, the HP of my guys are ~100 each and theirs are 260/100/100. Three of my five guys do between 1 and 5 damage for the entire battle, and two of the enemies do about 2-6. My other two guys do ~11 and ~25 damage, and the other enemy does ~25.

At the end of the battle my army "advances one skill level", Guan Yu's army goes up to 114 soldiers and Zhang Fei's army goes up to 114 soldiers. Then Liu Bei, Song Ren and Mi Zhe learn the Lian Hao tactic.

I feel like this is one of those games that you really, really need the manual for.

...after making sure I didn't roll for TG16 I have to say I'm pretty happy about this one. Don't think I own, so will be more screenshots this time.

And that's that.

You can actually see the quality of the game improve as you progress through the levels, like the team was slowing figuring out how to do things. Nice visuals, catchy music, controls could do with some tightening up but overall it's an alright game.

Would recommend. May play twice.

It is. It has interesting mechanics, difficulty wise is pretty average. Seems short enough but it's still fun enough to give it another try.

Round 2. Let's try to make it in an hour.

That is precisely what those cherub garden statues do, though. I mean, it's kinda silly that they would use them as enemies, but it's not completely out of left field or anything.

Been playing Bonk's Adventure for a bit, pic is my current progress. Been four worlds with four stages each that are pretty short. I got to this point about an hour in, and it's been...alright. The controls are a bit...slippery, maybe? That's probably my main gripe, mostly had problems with bosses because of it.

Also, this was after a game over and I hadn't collected any continues nor was there a number of continues left on the game over screen so I think I have unlimited. Shouldn't take much longer to complete if that's the case! I think I'll upload a screenshot montage after completion.

Apparently this version of Mega Man is a stone cold mother fucker who won't hesitate to blow up Wily's escape pod then let it burn up reentering the atmosphere.

This was probably the easiest Mega Man game I've ever played, but still fun.

And it's over.

If you want a fighting game that requires absolutely no skill and can be beaten by standing perfectly still and mashing a single button, I heartily recommend Tekken 3.

This piece of shit I can't recommend to anyone.

>> No.1629576

>Total Recall

Fuck. This game is rough. You have to jump over all manner of things, and do some pretty specific stuff to avoid a great amount of tedium and/or unavoidable death.

I can beat the first level pretty easily (at least when I don't screw up the boss fight), but after that the x-ray room is tough. Killing seven guards under constant attack from security drones is tough to do consistently. I've only reached the part after that once, and was there plagued by ravenous ass-biting dogs. It doesn't seem too bad aside from the dogs though.

I may try again, but for now I'm just tired of the game's BS. It's really particular, like it didn't receive much testing before release.

Also, this is my first time in one of these 'gauntlet' threads. Do I just reply to my own post when I finish the game? Or is there something I have to do to get it taken off the list?

Gonna finish Bonk today without any problem. After the last pic I managed to make it to the final boss, as pictured. The last world is about twice the length of the rest, and a game over sends you back to the start of it. A bit punishing, but I've seen much worse on the NES.

Short game, but pretty good, and looks nice as I'd expect for an NES title released in 1993. Just wish the controls were a bit...tighter.
