Do you want to have some nostalgia?
Open zsnes and change the controls to this:

UP =W
DOWN =S
LEFT =A
RIGHT =D
START =ENTER(NUM PAD)
SELECT =PERIOD (NUM PAD)
A =LEFT SHIFT
B =SPACE
X =8 (NUM PAD)
Y =4(NUM PAD)
L =5(NUM PAD)
R =6(NUM PAD)

Then play Megaman X
I assure you will play like a five year old again.
Have fun

For whatever reason, when I'm playing old games on the keyboard, I always use the arrow keys and map all the buttons to theleft side of the keyboard.

Even though given controller layouts, it would make much more sense to move with WASD and use the numpad for buttons.

Every PC game I use WASD though. I don't know why I do this.

Of course, nowadays I pretty much just use my controller.

I think keyboards are better controllers.
If you learn to use all the fingers you get more efficient.

I already emulate SNES and PSX with a similar set-up.

UP =T
DOWN =space
LEFT =F

SELECT =Right shift
A/Circle =. (NUM PAD)
B/X =0 (NUM PAD)

R/R1 =3 (NUM PAD)
L2 =8 (NUM PAD)
R2 =2 (NUM PAD)
I actually play pretty fucking well and comfortably like this.

I beat Mario 64 in 2008 for the first time, with a Keyboard.

I use the 4 arrow keys for moving and insert delete home end page up page down for the buttons. one hand in front of the other one.

I always played ASZX as YXBA and the arrow keys as the dpad. I don't even know what you're trying to say there. Seems like the sort of incoherence to be expected from someone who doesn't notice terrible graphic quality.
