Isometric games always make me frusturated, most of the time its either

A) I get confused/lost because its hard to tell if something is above me or right next to me
B) I miss things or get surprised by enemies because they're behind walls
C) It's on a system using a dpad, meaning It either has a up=up+right control scheme or I need to awkwardly straddle two directions the whole game (not a problem for mouse-based games, of course)

For the most part I'm glad Isometric was dropped.

There were a number of these isometric projection games on the 8-bit home computers. The only one I remember playing extensively is Knight Lore:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knight_Lore
But I didn't have a game manual and wasn't really sure wtf I was supposed to do. Managed to get pretty far anyway, just through trial and error. It was actually pretty fun and addictive, despite the extra difficulty due to the weird angle.

Now this is reminding me of a map for another one of these isometric games, one that's all the rooms pieced together. It looked a lot like pic related, which is the map for this game, in terms of coloration and style but of course the layout was different. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Viewpoint, one of the most controversial shoot 'em ups you never played. It was criticized for having some ridiculous environmental obstacles, like having to shoot open doors before you crash into them, or navigating unfairly tight corridors. Those challenges wouldn't be so bad on their own, except the way the ship maneuvers feels a bit awkward due to the isometric perspective. Still, I enjoyed it.

I know it's on Genesis and PS1, and I think there are a couple of other versions as well.
