ITT: Shit you found out YEARS later.

I just found that there are two vigorballs in Shining Force 2, one is in the Elven Village and the other is near where you recruit Sheela.

how to stop the boulder from crushing your gf while fighting the last boss of revenge of shinobi

dunno how the fuck I never figured that out while playing that game for ~20 years

I know that feel. My brother would get there and die when we were little. I beat it on an emulator and took a picture he didn't care :(

This happened to me the other day when I was playing the SNES Dragon Quest III. I cast Defeat on a bunch of 450 HP squids for shits and giggles, and it killed every fucking one.

I figured I got lucky but no, it just tears through nonresistant enemies. It'll even work in the endgame against dragons and the like.

There's a guy in Lorien who asks you a riddle about the "greatest enemy of them all". It took me close to a decade of replays and guessing before I got it.

And the answer's really obvious too. And you don't get anything for answering it either.

There was a secret passage in Maccarech, they told you you needed a secret pass to enter.
Years later I found out you actually could enter it, you had to find a Faberge egg in the mortar field (which was in an area you could only get to if you walked through a wall) and trade it with someone in Maccarech. Too bad the secret passage was only a shortcut, I was hoping for a secret level...
Also that you didn't have to go into the catacombs in Maccarech, you could just win 17,000 at the casino and bribe the hotel staff to get odd job's key.

In Ultima Underworld, there's a plaque near the bottom of the dungeon that says "Thou canst not defeat the Drakhai".

When I read it, I thought "Drakhai" was some kind of obscure monster, maybe the invisible beast mentioned in the manual. Nothing seemed particularly unbeatable, so I remembered it as a weird little quirk.

Much later, I played Wing Commander 2, and had to endure endless taunting from the Drakhai, especially their annoying claims of invincibility.

Then, years after that, I replayed Ultima Underworld and I literally fell to the floor laughing.

Was there a list of choices? I'm asking because that doesn't seem the least bit obvious to me - or maybe I'm taking it out of context.

No, it's got that old conversational system where you type in one word at a time, and it scans your responses for the first four letters that a lot of early 90s RPGs had.

It's obvious because once you eliminate the LOTR baddies, like Sauron and Morgoth, it has to be something philisophical and couched in platitudes.

And the entire elven history in LOTR is symbolic of a struggle against ennui and despair, so it really should have occurred to me, maybe not as the first guess, but by the fifth or sixth.
