I should be oldfag enough for you then.

SMB2 is merely the oldest game that I remember playing; my older brothers had other games and even an Atari once upon a time I might have played. Also I can't say I have a true & absolute favorite game, but FF6 is at least a top 3. I think I've played through it a half dozen times now.

I don't really have any current favourite games as I haven't really played many more recent titles after the PS2 gen and usually just casually play older titles I already know or missed out.
I kinda lack the ambition to invest huge amounts of time into games these days.

I'd rather make games than play them now.

I played Halo when it came out at a friend and thought it was utter shit and would never become a franchise.
In my opinion it only became cult because there was simply no real alternative on the xbox.

Remember when everyone thought that the Xbox would make gaming PCs obsolete due to Direct-X support which it didn't actually have in the end?

It has such a tight gameplay system that it allows for almost infinite challenge without becoming unfair and annoying. Presentation-wise, it has exactly what it needs and skips on everything else, which I adore.

Simply put, it's a game that consists only of gameplay-driven stages that get harder the better you play, and where you might die constantly, but it's never the game's fault, and you know it. And between the stages there are joke cutscenes starring the game's bosses. It's my one perfect game.

As such I consider Playstation 'my gaming era' (well, that and SNES/Gen) when most would think I'd be all about the Atari and early NES based on my age.

Well, with the exception of my high school years where the CD Add-On debacle, combined with my imagined maturity had me thinking I was past it, I've been a serious gamer my whole life. Every gen felt different to me up to the "modern" era, i.e. non-retro. I thought it was just because I finally really grew up although I do still play the good modern games they just never feel like any kind of huge innovation so much as just more money we have to spend to play the new stuff, with barely enough stand-out titles to be worth it and manufactured exclusivity for no purpose other than to get you to buy everything.

Basically, everything beyond 5th gen is like one big CD add-on.

The odd thing is I feel like I do have some things in common with people who were born in the early 80s. Maybe it's because my family still kind of lived as if it was the 80s for a few years in the early 90s (a few of my aunts and uncles still dressed as if it was the 80s). Plus, I had a lot of hand-me-downs from my older cousin who had 80s clothes.

I was born in 87, but I swear to God I have one memory of being at my old house as a 2 year old. I can see why you don't feel like you fit in with the rest though. You were listening to cassettes, they were listening to records, etc. etc.

Since my machine was too slow, I ended up playing Doom, Heretic, Hexen and Descent instead. Those all ran fine, although some later mods needed more horsepower (big maps with lots of details).

I don't post graph because frankly there's no "defining" game I have for any period. Always played a variety of games. Really, how hard is it to follow simple instructions and a template?

>first GAME
>childhood defining GAME
>aodlescence defining GAME
>current favorite GAME

And yet you guys feel the need to cram as many things in each listing as possible. I'm especially surprised most of you played multiple games as the first game you've ever played, including you, OP. I'd love to see you play Wacky Wheels and Duke Nukem at the same time with your four arms.

Seriously guys, if you can't decide, just post an alternate template, reply to your original and say "here's a close second for me" or something along those lines.

That would involve double the effort for little reason, and the rules are not set in stone, doesn't have to be literal.

And personally I don't remember the first game I played so I put more than one. The console's were always around as far as I'm concerned, literally no idea what I played first. So I put a mixture of the ones I have earliest memories of.

Pretty standard oldfag fare, I suppose.

Almost all of my games came out of bargain bins, so I was always jumping around different generations of systems. Don't even remember which games I played during what years for that reason.

Welp, here's my clearest answer. I've got a ton of other games that could fit on the list, but that would take a lot of time. Not pictured, all the old DOS and early windows games I used to play.

Out of curiosity, I've done a count of the years claimed, and took out one or two obvious trolls. In case anyone was wondering...

7 of the posters in this thread claimed to be born in the 70's.
74 posters claimed to be born in the 80's.
51 posters claimed to be born in the 90's.
1984,1989, and 1994 were the three most common ages posted. 15, 12, and 14 posters respectively.
With 76 being the oldest birth date, the only year up to 96 with no one claiming it is 79.

Not him either, but I don't mind it so much.

The Super Nintendo was what I grew up with and I still think it had some of the best games of it's day.

I find it hard to go further back to NES era though, and I think that's just because it was before my time. However I can play older arcade games without difficulty.

It may just be that I haven't been introduced into NES games by someone who played them.

I played no games between '87 and '92 and all of the games I played between '04 and '08 were emulated (ps2 was fucked due to DRE's): pretty much childhood and adolescent defining games and original arcade version through MAME.

Now that I have a softmodded PS2, I'm going through some of the 5th and 6th gen jrpg hits that I chose to ignore. Though emulation for 5th gen since I don't have any cd-r's (yet).

Heh, neat. I see you have quite a few JRPGs on your list. I am a fan of the genre, even if I didn't have the patience to beat many of them back in the day. GS is pretty much the only JRPG (outside of Pokemon) that I've completed. FFI, FFVII, FFX, DW3, and Skies of Arcadia come to mind as games from my childhood that I never beat. All of those games are pretty great too, so I really need to take care of that.

I have a tendency to not beat JRPG's too. The ones I have beaten are GS, FF1, FF7, FF8 and several pokemon games.

It's funny because I find that, even though JRPGs and RPGs in general were pretty influential for me, I don't play many of them anywhere near as much now as I did then.

Born in 94, dad had a n64 and ps1, got a dreamcast when i was about 8? original xbox when i was about 11, then 360 when i was about 14.

im 20 this year and ive rebought n64 with about 12 games and dreamcast with about 25 games, still love that shit

also regarding tekken 3 as my "adolescence defining game" me and my group of 10/15 friends end up playing it when were drunk pretty much every weekend, its the balls

Part of it is because we forget how long this last generation has been around as well. The 360 and Ps3 have been around for almost a decade now. Someone could have started it in their childhood and be 18 now

Because back in the late 80s / early 90s videogames weren't that common in households since it'd be up to your parents buying it. So you'd likely have a console that wasn't current gen and play something older than you are.

>> No.1614124

>>1613953
Logical thinking is too much for you, huh?

Aside from your assumption that you can only play things younger than you and that no one would have games lying around the house, you also forget that some titles were sold in stores for years after they came out. I see your stupid ass was born in '91. Did you know you could find Game Boy games from that year in stores during the late 90s?

I didn't get my copy of Super Mario Land until '97 or '98.

Your current favorites reek of "list things /v/ likes in a desperate attempt to fit in." If that's the case, this isn't the board for it, you don't need to try that hard. Sure, a few jackasses drone all day about Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, but for the most part, this isn't a bandwagon board.

No, I was born in 70's and I'm 100% serious. I still dig OCS/ECS Amiga stuff, PC-Engine, and Sega Genesis titles, but SNES seem overcooked to me, if you get my drift. And 32-bit stuff is when they started moving to 3D, which I find pretty ugly for the most part, and rather forced. Hand-crafted sprites forever man!
