Fear Effect is literally Edginess: The Game. the load times are horrendous too. if you're really, really into survival horror games they might be worth your time, but otherwise I'd stay away.

Think I beat the first one back in the day, I really was the FIRST "Cell shaded graphix!" game. "it's like a live action ANIME video game that you play!"

too bad the studio that made the games was folded, ran out of funds making the 3rd game for PS2, i was hyped...will we ever get a beta version?

I played the game and it has some difficult spots, how you approach each area/event can raise or lower your "fear effect". I think I got to a point were I just ripped the movie clips from the game to see all the endings/story.

I thought both were pretty fun. They're a bit like oldschool Resident Evil games, with a Blade Runner-like atmosphere, and some fanservice.

>tfw we will never get a Fear Effect 3

The first game rocked. The second one sucked.

What was wrong with the 2nd game in your opinion?

It's good, if dated and pretty damn hard though. The graphics are quite impressive.

Also, protip, sneaking + knife. Trust me.

Both Fear Effects game are all about trial&error. If that's what your into, then go for it. I personally can't stand it.

i only played FE1, and enjoyed it very much. it is a quite difficult game though. once you get the hang out of combat (took me almost two cd's long until i understood it) the (leathal) puzzles will challenge you.
FE1 has a fantastic mexican stand-off.
FE2 has more horrorish themes (edgy?), unfortunately it only got popular due to lesbian advertisment.

this game aged horribly. i can't beat the first fight. i wonder how i beat that game as a teenager??
also it looked ass even on release.

the track and field minigames are awesome though.
the dungeon crawlan will get you hooked

I had to make my own eboot to play it on my PSP.
It's the perfect game for portable play, but licensing bollocks means it will never appear in it's original state.

Only played the first one, it was pretty good: game looks great and is unique in that the BGs are actually vids, and so feel a lot more lively than on other games using 3D models over CG backgrounds. While short the game is also pretty varied, each level having its distinct atmosphere (game starts in a cyberpunk ambiance, then goes towards magic in the latter parts)
But be aware that its gameplay is full of die and retry parts (especially the boss)

Contra isn't trial&error like Fear Effect is. In Contra, most of the times the game is designed so that you have enough time to react and live. In Fear Effect, you pretty much have to die until you know all enemy placement and traps etc by heart

yeah ok, i admit that's true
