Thinking about reviewing bootleg/pirate ROMs as I dont have to worry about piracy and can just emulate them

There are some fairly decent (by the standards of bootleg games that is) demakes of DKC games on the NES (there are two DKC1 demakes by different people although 1 is more a of a GBC port to NES i think) although the DKC2 pirate only has 3 levels total

i love how that's not got "game boy" or some take on game boy like game child, it's just "game"

im thinking about the logistics of a web series like that though

ive recorded full playthroughs of some rom hacks but i'd like to have some seamless footage as well (to save editing out deaths), is there a way i can (and would it be acceptable to) play through the game with savestates and have recorded footage that doesn't skip around with the savestates?

im a little shy about using my voice but i suppose there are ways around that if im not happen with a test recording like doctoring (maybe use a text to speech program but that might be tacky) or get a friend to read lines that i write down

what bootleg games would you reccomend/like to see reviewed? also are there any bootleg atari ROMs (ones that are legal to emulate)? i can't find a list anywhere, even bootleg games wiki

bust a move tends to get strange box art but i guess its hard to make an ineresting box art given the amount of bust a move games and the games content (which is a shame because i love bust a move)

>>1586957
that looks pretty interesting, they did some neat stuff mixing content from different games in the series, the music isn't as bad as other pirate games on the megadrive but its still not good (i don't know what it is about the megadrive that gets such bad music from pirates, maybe they aren't compensating for the chips shortcomings?)

Reminds me of my bootleg "40 in 1" or something GBC cart. Aside from being absolutely awesome for containing all 1st and 2nd gen Pokerman games bundled with a bunch of other pirated and actually decent games, it was also notable for the Crystal version on it being the infamous vietnamese hack. "DRUG BAG FUCK!". Of course as a kid I barely suspected anything was off with the game and played it as much as the rest (the other pokemon versions were legit)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Pelevin

> Victor Olegovich Pelevin (Russian: Ви́ктор Оле́гович Пеле́вин, IPA: ['vʲiktər pʲJ'lʲevʲJn], born 22 November 1962) is a Russian fiction writer, the author of novels "Omon Ra", "Chapayev and Void" and "Generation P". He is a laureate of multiple literary awards including the Russian Little Booker Prize (1993) and the Russian National Bestseller (2004). His books are multi-layered postmodernist texts fusing elements of the pop culture and esoteric philosophies while carrying conventions of the science fiction genre. Some critics relate his prose to the New Sincerity literary movement.

> Pelevin's prose is usually devoid of dialogue between the author and the reader, whether through plot, character development, literary form or narrative language. This corresponds to his philosophy (both stated and unstated) that, for the most part, it is the reader who infuses the text with meaning. Typical of Pelevin's ironic style, the novel Babylon ("Generation П" or "Generation P" is the Russian title) bears on its cover the inscription, "Any thought that occurs in the process of reading this book is subject to copyright. Unauthorized thinking of it is prohibited".

Surprisingly entertaining to read (from what I've read) if you like modernist literature that talks a lot without saying much, though sometimes it's hard to tell whether things are nonsensical because of the writing, or the translation. I generally assume the former.

I've seen this being posted in many bootleg threads and well, this isn't one. For better or worse it's not a erotic pokemon anthro fanfic sold in Russia but rather an esoteric novel about an aspiring businessman obsessed with numerology. Pokemon /do/ feature somewhat prominently in the book as the main character's girlfriend is sort of a furry who is obsessed with Pokemon and thinks she's Meowth and the MC is Pikachu, but that's not a central part of the plot and they just chose the cover to be as kitschy as possible because 90s-early 2000s Russia didn't have a concept of copyright.
