Hey /vr/. I picked up a Sony Trinitron at a yard sale but after getting it home and turning it on there is some color distortion in the left and right side of the screen. I tried degaussing it every 10 minutes for two hours but that didn't fix it. I also tried degaussing with a ac power drill which would work when the drill was on and close to the screen but went back after turning it off. Could it be the speakers in the TV became unshielded or something?

Bumping with picture of the innards

I would first google the model number and post it in the CRT thread. The trinitrons in my area are so plentiful that you can find one of those 35''+ really nice ones for less than $40 all the time.

It may not be worth the hassle.

That said, canned air the thing

Thanks for the help. Should I just de-dust it and put it back together or should I disconnect the speaker as well before putting the back on ?

Dusted and took out speakers. Looks a tiny bit better. Gonna try degaussing

Doesn't seem to want to degauss. Any other ideas

I tried a power drill and a several degauss cycles.

>> No.1586820

I don't know the method for using a power drill... I have seen people use a degaussing coil to fix this. It is called a purity error BTW.

>> No.1586826

Googled that... Seems neat.
Are you backing up when you're using the drill?

>> No.1586850

Yup. It only changes the screen back to normal up really close.

>> No.1586894

Ok, so is electromagnetic interference a possible cause for this? The closer i move my tv to the wall the worse the purity error gets.

>> No.1586982

Nevermind , not emi or anything. Just plugged it in somewhere else. Any other ideas?

This shouldn't be its own thread on the retro games board. This is weird.

Ironically and coincidentally enough, my Sony Trinitron just bit the bucket today, the color amplifier (or adjustment) and the v-hold both shit the bed at once. Hope you can figure out whats wrong, it may help my case as well.
