ITT: Levels/maps in games that made you ragequit

This. Fucking. Stage. The rest of the game is cake and pretty fun, but this motherfucker right here is the reason I never finished the game for a long time. Not only do most of the jumps in this level have to be pin point, the last boulder in the stage can make or break you. You have to jump at the very edge of the cliff or the boulder hits you. Even if you land on the carpet at the bottom, it lands on your head and you die. Even if your FOOT touches it, you die. Fuck the cave of wonders!

"Welcome to the Machine" from Ecco the Dolphin. The Autoscroller from hell.

I think I got through it twice but I died to the final boss both times, but I wasn't about to go through that shit again.

Maybe I should get back to it and put my demons to rest, it probably isn't even that hard with more experience.

The very first time I played the dam, I had a lot of trouble. However, on subsequent playthroughs it's not so hard, because you get a feel for the layout and control scheme. It's very annoying, and you might die or even game over your first time through. But it's not the kind of thing that cold stops you forever. And, back then, failing a few times, or even many times, before you finally beat the game was just part of the way things were done.

The really hard parts came after. Eventually it gets to the point where enemies are too strong to fight directly. You can only either fight them from a distance with subweapons, charge through without fighting, or take advantage of the terrain to trap them while you wail on them from safety. You either go Donny or go home.

That level wasn't that hard once you got the timing right. The trick was to jump from the sinking platforms in the last second: usually there was a mini lava explosion that hurt you if you jumped too fast, you had to wait for those to dissipate first.
Small boulders can be knocked down with your scimitar.
The huge boulders are slightly faster than you are, and you LOSE speed if you jump midway, so you should just run without stopping. The only time you might want to jump is for that extra life.
As long as you don't panic, the level is not hard.

>>1563932
Rug Ride was the best level in the game. Awesome music, and really fast scrolling. It really pumped the adrenaline.

Also you can only do the level twice I think, there are so many extra lives scattered around that the game has to automatically advance after you die twice, so you can't stock up on lives.

>> No.1564034

The ostrich jumping wasn't too hard after a few playthroughs and the Roar At Monkeys part was just trial and error. What always fucked me up was the collission detection on the hippo tails. I was just raging over the final boss of Shinobi 3 but I finally figured out a way to cheese it. With one of the ninjitsus you can basically refill your health to max at the cost one of your extra lives. For me losing an extra life was trivial because I had about 15 lives because I hardly ever died until reaching the final boss because I had so much practice doing it because I kept getting game over at him. So I just kept spamming that ninjitsu anytime I'd get low and brute forced him.

Yay now I can move on to GG Shinobi!
