Any way to get this beast to output stereo without modding?

That's not what your mother said last night!

No, even modding is imossible, the sound chip in Master System simply does not do stereo

Mother comment deleted by janitor. Evidently janitors mother was fucked by that anon.

So you want to modify a master system with out modifying it?

>> No.1537351

>>1537325

No, I wanted to know if there was a cable solution, you little cunt. Hence me asking if there was a way to get stereo WITHOUT modding.

>>1537351
Calm down, dear.

Why would you think changing the cable would change the systems output?

Not him but I'm sure it's because of the model 1 Genesis. This is how people learn.

For some reason, this thing just sounds like ass to me, it's just so god damn shrill I can't stand it.

1541105

You can use a splitter to get two mono signals and plug that into your tv.

Not stereo at all though, I think the technical term for that setup would be monaural.

>> No.1541936

>>1541105

Does that even make it sound better?

>> No.1544041

>>1541936
Of course not. Stereo output or surround output isn't going to sound any different than mono if all channels output the exact same sound.

>> No.1544498

Ok, sooo can it be modded to output stereo?

>> No.1544513

>>1544498
why would anyone develop stereo sound for a system that only uses mono?

>> No.1544516

>>1544498

Does the games even support it? ... If not, then no amount of modding will help you

>> No.1544563

If you were truly some kind of weirdo you might be able to put different channels on different outputs and then mix them using controls you added to the console or in a mixing board. In all likelihood, this would be a moderately difficult mod to perform and wouldn't even yield anything resembling "right" and "left" channels, more like one channel for music and one for sound effects. No one but a certified audiophile would have any reason to do this.

>> No.1544570

>>1544498
no

>> No.1544582

If using just plain RCA cables the most you're going to get is known as double-mono: the same exact signal coming from both left and right

Nope. Not even they have a reason to do that.

If it's to achieve a fuller sound then >>1541105 has the answer.

>> No.1547781

>>1544729
Something you can do in addition to that is to make one of the cables coming out of the splitter longer than the other. This will give one channel a slight delay. The result is a very 4th gen style sound.

Are you planning to make it several hundred miles longer? Because electrons flow through copper at about .8 light speed.

>>1544729
Unless you're some kind of idiot that doesn't know how to set their sound system to mono mode I don't know how splitting the sound would make it "fuller"

The Master System has three tone channels and a white noise channel. The Mark III and the Genesis also have an FM synth channel.

Let's say our hypothetical audiophile was playing a horizontal shooter like R-Type. He might determine that his ship's laser sound is on channel 1 so he might mix that channel almost entirely on the left. Explosions might be on the white noise channel and so he might route it directly to his subwoofers. Enemy lasers might be on channel 2 and he might send them entirely to the right, leaving channels 3 & 4 for music which would be evenly sent between the two, maybe arbitrarily a bit more to one or the other per channel, maybe slightly in the subwoofer channel too depending on the flavor he was going for.

This would give a "full" sound, very much approximating stereo. However, these settings would have to be remixed for every single game and lots would never sound right.

Do SMS games support stereo, though? Say if you were to run them through a Power Base Converter?

Nah. Just not planning on being a kid who can't really into audio.

Yes you can, actually! Just download FL Studio or any other DAW (even the free fl studio will work for this), set it up (make sure to install asio4all to get the lowest delay possible),

in FL Studio, hit View > Mixer, and in the right rack area, add a reverb and chorus to the racks.

Plug your audio from the sysstem to your computer, and then use the headphone jack or speakers to get the stereo sound out.

It will take about 30 minutes to do this, and get the reverb and chorus set to taste (check presets!), but in the end you will have stereo sound and be playing your games with pseudostereo sound!
