I really want to get Refine.

No other series has as big of a place in my heart as Princess Maker. I own multiple versions of 2 and 3.

If I were to make a game, it would be a Princess Maker clone. Once the translation of 5 is done, I can die happy.

I never actually played Princess Maker 2 that much. Only did a few routes and didn't adventure a lot. I'll start a new game right now and maybe try some magic too.
PM3 doesn't have any of the adventures PM2 had which is kind of a shame.

I'd say my most often ending in PM2 was a General + Young Dragon's wife. Most of my daughters ended up being warriors only because warrior endings were fully translated :D
I never got around to playing PM3, even though it seems really promising...
Has anyone played PM1? It's kind of nice if you're used to playing games in Japanese (unless there's a fan translation somewhere that I don't know about)

Farm work is the best if you're raising a warrior. She'll fail the first few moths, but then it will get better. Also, choose robust diet if you're really low on HP and then just slim her down during summer.
Venus girls are really fickle, I always chose Mars (I think Mars was for Aries...) and they're mostly problem-free when it comes to running away and low HP... Unless, of course, that changed in Refine too.

That's a mind fuck. And I pretty much managed to get her to where I want, which is a kickass warrior that no one can defeat. Found some very interesting events along the way, your girl can even get in jail.
And yeah, Venus girls really are fickle but I randomly pick a date, I don't want to pick anything according to stats or whatever.

Farm work is a good start for almost anything. You need strength for various jobs and the farm is the best way to raise it early on. Constitution determines how fast she falls ill so having more is always good. Finally it pays relatively well so you can afford lessons to raise your other stats.

Oh, also, blood has an effect on your girl's stress. I only remember that B is -2 stress each month and 0 doesn't change anything.

Yeah, I actually already tried that and the result of selling the sword sure did catch me off guard. So many little events like this make the game so good.

Question, does working one job enough time determine what other jobs I'm going to unlock? In PM3 I let her worked in a bar for some time and after a few events of her beating up drunkards I unlocked a new job as a bar guard.

Low on money or do you need sin points? Anyway, adventure in the desert, the old dragon is a leech and will give your girl pocket money. And if you hang out outside the Demon's Cave then Lucifon will offer you a drink, you can boost a stat and raise sin too.

The difficulty with the Queen ending is that it's easy to overshoot the target and get one of the specific endings.
I managed to get it by repeatedly refusing challenges and selling the royal sword to ruin my reputation.

It is, one site even ran a contest about who will manage to get it without Mad Eddy and other cheats. Well, there's no gallery, so the endings just come and go..

Okay so it ended up with my daughter saying she isn't happy with the way I raised her, saying she wanted to do more girly things and then goes off to become general of the army. After that Venus told me I should have made my girl smarter and then went on to tell me how much of a good father I am.
This kind of sucks, I wonder if the ending would have been different if she had a different guardian.

I think I went to jail a few times. The problem with reputation loss is that your morale depends on your reputation and you end up fleeing from many battles you could easily win.

Sin drops from the bad company event as far as I recall.

There was a leaked translated version of PM2 for IBM/DOS. That's all there is fully in English at the moment.
Additionally there's an uncensor patch that fixes a few images.

The PCE looks like the PC98 adjusted for lower resolution and higher colors.

FM Towns got a redesign that was used as a basis for the later ports.
Refine looks like it went through some sort of filter.

PM5 has this crayon-like touch to it, but I've heard it has the most developed plot. I'd kind of hesitant to try it, since my Japanese is non-existent and my English is absurd, but I suppose it would be more interesting than PM2.

RenPy is a tool a lot of people here in the west use, and with a visual novel format, I think that it's possible to tinker there and get much better results than you would if you did so in Game Maker or RPG Maker or what have you.

PM4 was pretty easy for me to track with my minimal knowledge of Japanese language and a few guide sites. The graphics are really good IMHO, except the ocassional bad proportions or werdly drawn face if the head is tinted..

The order in which you meet them reflects how you bring your daughter. If you met Rize first then it means she's the best at fighting at the moment. She can make one more friend. If you want to meet her then magic classes and walks should do the trick

I've got Rize, Christina and Marie. I'm glad to know my daughter is in good company. The events so far were pretty interesting, there was an even where a bunch of kids were bullying her and Cube calls you but then you get the option to either help her or watch over her and see her dealing with the problem herself.

Based on the screenshots the graphics don't seem as good, I love the look of old Japanese PC games so this is to be expected. Princess Maker 3 looks pretty good still, Princess Maker 4 looks absolutely atrocious.

Well, finished the game and got the Hero ending, combined with the war continuing. Seems like the endings in this game are affected by both stats and events so this could prove to be interesting.

I'm not sure it's the soldier ending because the dialogue said she went on to become a hero like her mother, I think. And no, I met one prince but never really did anything with it.

I'm probably going to get a few more endings before moving on to either PM5 or PM1, though PM4 has a CG gallery so that gives me some more incentive to complete it.

PM5 is far more complicated than all of the previous entries of the series, which is part of the reason it's taken so long to get a translation patch. The game is massive, and even brings adventuring a la 2 back.

PM4 is very generic in my opinion, and I didn't like it. Raising your daughter is similar to that of 2's mechanics, sans adventuring. The story events, I feel, are unneeded and detract from the experience but other fans will disagree.

PM3 is the black sheep of the series because it changed up a lot of the raising aspects and added a lot more randomness to raising your daughter. She's moody in 3, someones to the point where it kind of ruins a playthrough.

I don't know about generic, the game really charmed me so far with lots of the characters being likeable and some of the events being pretty fun. True that it's really similar to PM2 but dumbed down.
