Exactly what is the problem with this crazy MF? It went out of the barn and started pushing towards the fence and it's eyes kept popping out like crazy...

>> No.1531801

Animals don't like rain. They bug out if you put them out there. Put it back in the barn, make sure it doesn't get sick.

>> No.1531803

It probably already has gotten sick. Make sure to get some medicine from the ranch

I'm shocked you had enough time to get the sheep outside the barn and take a screenshot before the game's day clock expired on you.

First time player here...

The animals go outside by themselves, but it's only 1 that does it... When I go into the barn I start to work with them and they strat to follow me, but if I go to far, one starts to wander around and eventually goes out... so I go and bring it back, it's kind of funny 'cos they start walking towards the grass and since there's a fence there they just start to walk towards it and this happens to them. I've only gotten one sick animal and it was becuase I got sick one day and couldn't feed them.

So the PSX version is better than this one? It's kind of addictive, but it's also really repetitive, but really fun in a way, just as many similar strategy/build/planning games.

Nah.

>>1532471
I'm not sure if you're aware of this or not, but when you talk to an animal again after the first time (which makes the heart appear and increases its affection slightly), it will start following you around. You can also make animals go where you want by pushing them in a direction. These can really help getting them in and out of the barn.

>> No.1536016

>>1535948
Yes! Thanks... I've been discovering these things as I play... Now I understand why they were going outside. It was because I was giving them a push towards the door. Now I just bump them around so that they stay inside and I exit-enter the barn if they get out of control.

never new about the talking to follow thing. The best thing to do to get them out is to hire those color sprite guys and set them to "take care of animals"

>> No.1536835

What do you guys think is better, BTN or 64?

I think they both have their merits. BTN is a little more fleshed out gameplay-wise (though I don't really like the controls), but the town and characters were so much more charming to me in 64.

The rotated controls are an obstacle that has consistently prevented me from playing Back to Nature for more than an hour. I don't understand how anyone can praise that game so much when the controls fucking suck like that.

I know what you mean. It's not even that they take some getting used to. It's that they're impossible to get used to because they just don't feel natural.

I don't even understand the thought process behind making them like that either. Why'd they do it?

Not Welsh here but I've an odd love of Wales and all things Welsh. Even so, I lol'd.

What do you call a lamb tied to a lamppost in Cardiff?
A leisure centre.

In the configuration menu on the bookshelf.

>Movement Controls
Type 1 - Up moves you northwest, left moves you northeast, down moves you southeast, right moves you southwest. Default controls.
Type 2 - Up moves you northeast, left moves you southeast, down moves you southwest, right moves you northwest. Reverse of default controls.
Type 3 - When facing northwest or southeast, game uses Type 1 controls. When facing northeast or southwest, game uses Type 2 controls. Very confusing and disorienting.

The only good GB game is the 3rd one. You could marry the helper chick, it had a cool island, it had lots of stuff to buy. It was a decent handheld game, but none of the gb games were as good as the console ones.

The GBC ones are.
There is some contention between fans of HMGBC2 and HMGBC3. I personally prefer HMGBC2 but both are very, very good. HMGBC3 is a bit of a pain in the arse because unlike other HM titles, the clock keeps going even indoors but the game itself is better. That one mechanic kind fucks it all up for me, so even if it is in every other respect superior to GBC2, I nonetheless prefer GBC2 to GBC3.
GBC1 = GB < SNES.
I don't like the 5th gen isometric HM games.

The GBA and DS incarnations were good, too. While I've never played it, I watched someone else play the PS2 one and that seemed good as well. I've never seen or played any HM games newer than that, though other than the aforementioned DS one.

Sometimes I wonder if Harvest Moon 64 was just a fluke, that it's merely a happy accident that made it turn out so good. Because they have failed so utterly in later installments of the series to capture what made it good. Did they even really understand the kind of game they were making when they made it? And it's not like 64 does super amazing stuff either--some mechanics could definitely have been made clearer, especially stuff like stamina versus fatigue, and what things affect your happiness evaluation. Yet it simply doesn't make all the other fatal mistakes they've made with the other games.

OP here...
I read in some FAQ that the sprites help you in a way with feeding the animals. I'm trying to go through the game with a little help from FAQs, but just to get those things that require a huge dose of intuition to achieve... I suppose the main rule is to try and befriend as many characters as possible, and also read what they have to say, to find out things for yourself...

pretty much. the harvest sprites, if you'd like to know take care of your farm if you get sick and will water the crops in your field (i.e. not in the greenhouse) on festival days
there's a huge amount of little things in hm64 that you probably will miss your first run, but the surprises are half the fun, right?

>> No.1541182

>>1539880
Sure it's cool that certain aspects of the game remain "stealthy" to add replay value. I'm in the second year, married and got the greenhouse... I almost shitted myself when I discovered the space and free-time zone the greenhouse offers.

Nope, not a bit. The problem with later games in the series for the most part is that they kept trying to make shit tedious and more sim-like for not particular reason.

Even though I've only extensively played BtN in its FoMT form, yes. BtN has more features.

I only prefer 64 to BtN since the character relations make more sense and seeing that I played it before BtN, BtN just seems very alien to me. I think the only reason FoMT is easier to play than BtN is because the perspective is top-down so it looks different enough. It still feels "off" though. Is it just me? They really shouldn't have reused the characters.

>>1537125
I wish the SNES version didn't have that silly time limit, it's easily my favorite to just pick up and play anytime. It's comfy.
