Combat Hall on Alinos to be specific, first map on the MP list. The alt-form indent on the side and bridge give it away.

You would imagine there may have been some anons who would have figured it out in seconds. A lot of the MPH maps look like they could integrate into Doom pretty well. Council Chamber, the expansion of Alinos Perch with the lava room seems like an okay choice

I always felt that Pipe Bombs are rather underutilized in general except for blowing up walls.

For that level I wanted to use underutilized weapons indeed. In the first gameplay versions of the map all you got for most of the map was Pipebombs, freezer, shrinker/expander.
But, the more I tested it, the more I realize the map NEEDED a pistol and a chaigun, so I put those in; but the map remains very oriented towards the freezer (and pipebombs at the start). The only shotgun you will get though, are from dead pigcops if you're lucky enough.
Every map in the episode will start weaponless.

I always found the Pipebomb to be quite versatile, so much so that I'd frequently try to save them.

As in, when I find a crack in a wall or something destructible, I'd set a Trip-mine on it/near it, and then trip the laser from afar, like an impromptu demolition charge. I never found a time where I'd feel that the Trip-mine was convenient as a weapon, so it made sense to me to rather save Pipebombs and Rockets for enemies.

I'd often find myself not using the Freezer or Shrink-Ray most of the time, but when I'd run out of Pistol Bullets, Ripper Bullets, Shotguns Shells, Rockets and Pipebombs, I'd scurry about my inventory, and find I'd have a full supply for the Freezer, Shrink-Ray or Microwave Cannon, and I'd be all "Fuck yeah, that'll do!"

The tripmine is mostly a deathmatch weapon, and it does work great in deathmatch. In SP, in the few instances of weapon actually providing tripmines AND having actually level design allowing good use of it, there are always enough ammo for the rest so players don't use it.

Rootpain was about aborting a fetus, but Buttpain is about the consequences a person has to feel after it.

The subject focus of the ROOTPAIN was female, the focus of this is male--not only the protagonist, but also the male ghosts using male voices. While Rootpain dealt with the female view of abortion, Buttpain is the struggles of a man who has to come to terms with it.
The "IT MAY LIVE . . ." comments so common in Rootpain are expanded on in Buttpain where the shadows of the past haunt the main character, "raping" him with phallic knives and guns. He's being punished for not stopping her--locales once so familiar, fun, and interesting to him are reduced to a lonely and oppressive landscape dangerous just to step in.

And that's not even going into the monsters themselves. The shadows that rise from the corpses is a perfect metaphor for the regret that plagues families after an abortion, as fathers and mothers often report waking up on hearing the screaming of their (what would be a) child.
Some families, however, simply don't want children, and this is represented by the spiders, which only come if you run out of light (i.e., the sole comfort you have in a dark landscape) and start screaming like babies while trying to bite you, not unlike a baby does to the mother's breast.
And then there's the tall man, who stands tall and wrapped in a robe, using a knife--what else could this stand for but the doctor that had to cut the baby out? The only other type of man that could see his wife's/girlfriend's nethers, and yet do more to it than a man ever could.
And then we get into the grabby monster, which represents the responsibility that comes with having a child--the obvious downside. It sneaks up on you, grabs you, and pulls you under to be with it, not unlike what a child does with your free time. It demands your attention, pulls you to it, and keeps you from going away.

The short of the matter is that Buttpain is not a mockery of Rootpain, but rather a lovingly crafted sequel, a logical continuation of the themes and motifs present in the original.
Rootpain dealt with the physical, but Buttpain deals with the mental and psychological, bringing forth real problems in society today and underlying them so subtly that you can go through without even considering them at all.

Just like Rootpain, it's a fantastic work of post-modern social commentary, and I have no doubt that even Zygo himself would be honored to have this sequel.

Should probably show off your work with a better camera angle. You're also missing a twist in your edgeflow along the forearm. Put your arm in the same position and flex your muscles. The edges of your polys should follow the same path as the crease in your muscles. So it deforms properly in animation.

I was in the middle of recreating the Phantoma game from Serial Experiments Lain for Zandronum.

Inherently, it's not a bad thing. The problem is that the patterns have to be exactly that--patterns.

Take this Touhou mod, for example. It makes enemy attacks a lot more pattern-y, but the modder has absolutely no power over where they're put, where they're placed, or how the patterns will even begin. Having three imps on top of a stack of crates and having two imps from side to side is going to provide a wildly different pattern to dodge and weave through.

In the end, the player's death has to feel like it was his own fault, not something he had no chance in, and trying to make enemy attacks patterned without designing maps around them is...futile.

You can drag any of these right onto gzdoom.exe. You can also hold control then left click to highlight 2 or 3 or 87 at a time and drag them all onto gzdoom.exe.

Doom 2 levels are inside the wad as map01-map32. Ultimate Doom levels are inside the wad as e1m1 to e4m9.

Look at the .txt file that came with them. If it says it's for Ultimate Doom then it is not for Doom 2 and won't work with it.

These are actually separate games and yes people still make levels for Ultimate Doom and not Doom 2.

RGA1 was based off of some UT99 mod. It's also the only good one in the series.

RGA2 is based off of MW2. While technically impressive (ADS, perks, leveling) it's just not as fun as 1.

RGA WW2 is based off of COD2. It's basically the same, except headshots and crosshairs were added.

Hey peoples with midi problems, here's an alternate solution to grabbing drdteam's fluidsynth.dll and finding a soundfont.

See that? Extract it to a folder in your Doomy area. Use the console or just edit the .ini file of GZdoom so it knows where to find it:

Works with Prboom's configs too. Fire it up, go into the sound options, and change the midi device from MSWhatever to GUS.

Does the trick without sounding obscenely fantastic like the SGM 2.01 or ZX128 KR5 soundfonts do.

Sometimes I fire off into the distance to bait enemies. Apparently you can also bait enemies with item drops, but I haven't done that yet. Other times I just spray where I guess an enemy might be if I don't have intuition. Their screams of pain let me know if I hit my mark.

Anyway, I got to say, after Unholy Cathedral the Lab with two shamblers is the hardest I got so far. The Focussed Dbl Shot failed me for the first time. Everytime I took a shot the Shambler pissed off and came back good as new.

Lucky you. I think rapid and shotgun is the way to go. Problem is, you burn through ammo until you get the master marine trait.

I personally think that the tech pistol run is one of the most fun. Pistols can be very powerful when upgraded and play is tailored to it. You can take down Barons and Knights in a 6 shot magazine with a power pack and dual gunner. Problem is, one of the master pistol traits blocks dual gunner so I dont know if you can have max pistol damage and dualgunner at the same time. Can you uprade a blocked trait before you get the final trait?
