To recap, I beat:
>Ultimate Doom, keyboard only, 100% kills and secrets, no freelook, modded with perkristian sounds and animations
>Evilution, mouse + kb (no freelook), 100% kills and secrets, with perk's pack too
>Plutonia, freelook, didn't bother to find all the secrets or kill everything, modded with Beautiful Doom after MAP07
>Doom 2 and No Rest for the Living, same as Plutonia
>Chex Quest 3 with mouse after beating Ultimate Doom because I needed some fucking rest after beating 100%ing Thy Flesh Consumed

This is as condensed a command you can enter.
-i -> You're specifying the input file
-c:v libvpx -> The encoder you want used
-threads 4 -> How many CPU threads you want. Enter 8 if you have an i7
-vf scale=-1:480 -> Specifies the aspect ratio and resolution. Leave the -1 there, but change the resolution according to your needs.

I personally use MSI afterburner. It supports intel quicksync recording, as well as NVENC recording, the same thing Nvidia Shadowplay uses. Fidget around with the settings and see what works for you.

This is assuming you're on a desktop. If you're on a laptop, use Afterburner and MJPEG recording. you'll have to transcode the video afterwards with something like Handbrake. And then convert it to webm.

What I don't get is, with the system the way it is, why the fuck hasn't anyone made a simple hud mod that completely replicates the appearance of the normal mod, but just floating a hair over the bottom and centered regardless of resolution?

It took Carmack seven years to catch up to Unreal 3 and in the process the entire ingame world is basically painted concrete. Even simple shit like skulls on chains in the first bandit cove are as immobile as fucking Doom sprites. Furthermore on Nightmare it's easier than Halo Reach on Normal because they had absolutely no idea what they were doing with difficulty.

Then they rereleased Doom 3 and added so much ammo it's ridiculous, 200 fucking shotgun shells by the time you get back to the radio check guy. So much for even pretending there's tension.

On top of that you have small companies like People Can Fly and Croteam popping out legit hardcore maze & throng shooters.

So the Doom 3 and Rage management is out on Doom 4?

I don't see how that's a bad thing.

You know what also broke the game, shooting things. Because the game has no concept of challenging beyond level differences. It's essentially the dead opposite of why Doom is great. Every concept you can stick in for FPS was fucked up and poorly done. The novelty mechanics were poorly done as well, the skills were also broken, in that some didn't work correctly and if I'm not mistaken even to this very fucking day you still need community faq to fix the fucking item cards not displaying correctly. Yeah, they gave such little shit about it they didn't even bother to fix the one thing that was the entire point of the fucking game. The community had to do it.
On top of that, multiplayer was fucking horribly implemented and jittery as fuck, as expected from modern netcode, especially from the shitfest that is UE3.

well if you want to compare game mechanics, let's go

BORDERLANDS: most of the enemies are pretty damn easy to kill, and the only challenge that comes out is from getting forced into bad positions by the map because most of what they do is run up to you and shoot/charge, and take cover now and then
DOOM: all the enemies are *extremely* easy to kill, and the only challenge that *ever* comes out is from getting forced into bad positions by the map because all they do is run up to you and shoot/charge

BORDERLANDS: the weapon variation comes only in number tweaks; there's no fundamental behaviour differences among the non-uniques
DOOM: the weapon variation comes from differing the amount of pellets per shot or tweaking the damage/speed of a projectile; the only break from the "shoots projectiles/bullets straight forward that do damage directly" is the BFG, a weapon so damn convoluted that an entire FAQ had to be made for it

BORDERLANDS: there's bugs such as the last line of item cards not displaying, and the netplay was "jittery as fuck" (which is why you don't fucking use gamespy seriously) - the community stepped up to fix it, since gearbox either didn't attempt or didn't get to fixing them
DOOM: there's bugs such as moving against a wall angled a certain way makes you incredibly fast, that projectiles occasionally went through walls (MAP07), and due to broken REJECT lumps there were cases where you could stand right in front of a monster and they couldn't see you; there were limitations where looking at too many sectors literally causes the game to crash, which was *intentional*; and to this day there's people who refuse to patch these bugs because they're "classic", and no attempt by id was made to fix most of these; it fell upon the community to fix all this up with source ports

BORDERLANDS: jittery as fuck multiplayer, I'm guessing because P2P
DOOM: if one person was lagging, everyone else's game *froze* because not only was it P2P, every tic had to go through every single client before the game advanced

BORDERLANDS: skills are broken (if by that you mean find rare items, which is bullshit, because all the skills themselves work)
DOOM: radsuits fuck up occasionally and bleed through damage anyway

I have no fucking clue what you mean by novelty mechanics so whatever

so yeah uh

But Borderlands 1 and 2 don't have this.

>there's no fundamental behaviour differences among the non-uniques
This might be an issue because Borderlands only really has four weapon types if you're going to break it down like that.

While Doom still has 6 even if you lump the SG and SSG together.

> if we're talking objectivity, age doesn't matter. only the merits of each game do.

There are fixes for the bugs in Doom even if some people want to keep it classic. There's a reason to keep it classic for things such as comparing speedruns to older speedruns. Else they become largely incomparable. Sourceports do have fixes for them though.

The enemy difficulty in doom is made from attrition and overwhelming, there's no real situation where the same is true of Borderlands. Though, for the most part, Dooms enemies are more difficult to kill at the top tier and the game is well balanced for it.

>>1526429
My friend enjoyed the sniper rifle. I found the sniper rifle had one nice thing that just about never happened without forcing the issue. I sat up on a ledge with a rifle and he drove away and dug up some bugs, which I shot from across the map. It was nice to have that kind of distance in the fight, but it's not something you come across alone and it's not really effective to split up that far generally. Longbow nades often fall out after so far as well. You can't snipe that distance solo since enemies tend not to spawn until you show up on their doorstep generally.
I don't remember giving a shit about shotguns really in the first game. Revolvers and SMGs were the main course. Of course not even rockets, rockets were bugged and had piss poor range detection, you had to slap people in the face and it still didn't do proper damage even with the tree jacked out.

In the second game, shotguns are the best thing there are and no ones even on par with gunzerk.

The problem with that is the way I have it set up, it uses sword rage like other subweapons, when you go into the powered sword state, you lose all sword rage and the ability to generate it. so you wouldn't be able to fire the goddess bracelet at all when you power the sword up

No. It was jittery because UE has dogballz for netcode. The person who starts the game hosts the game and everyone who he invites joins up. I had a friend who tried hosting who could barely handle the game it was fucking terrible. Even in optimal conditions it was still pretty bad though. I preferred hosting the server myself because fuck my friends, not really but they generally give less shit about a ping and lag than I do though I can still crush their shit even in the worse conditions. new haven was challenging for exactly that reason; it's the only area where enemies don't come just from the front, and in fact they usually had positional advantage, and the riot shields and turrets shook things up some
those guys HURT; shame they didn't then keep up with that difficulty

>While Doom still has 6 even if you lump the SG and SSG together.
bullet spitter, faster bullet spitter, spread bullet spitters, projectile thrower, faster projectile thrower, and some weirdass projectile-plus-cone-of-bullets thing

in borderlands terms, that becomes repeater pistol, smg, masher/shotgun, rocket launcher, e-tech gun/mercurial blaster (both garbage, seriously gearbox projectiles are supposed to be GOOD), and the norfleet in BL2

>>1526446
>The enemy difficulty in doom is made from attrition and overwhelming, there's no real situation where the same is true of Borderlands. Though, for the most part, Dooms enemies are more difficult to kill at the top tier and the game is well balanced for it.
there's no real attrition in either doom or doom 2, and the difficulty from killing them isn't difficulty but tedium

mods like hard doom and complex doom have the right idea (make the attacks more threatening), but they do it in a rather hamhanded manner (especially complex doom) and it just comes off badly

hopefully that one monster pack vince is working on avoids that pitfall

webm as a weapon. First/primary shot takes a 5 second snapshot of everything you see. Second shot/secondary plays that 5 second video back as a projected texture dimension and anything that gets hit in the playback takes damage. So you could record someone running by you, then when they come barreling around with a ssg you play it back, they shoot the video, hits the video of him, and he gets killed.
So it's sort of like a moving technological voodoo doll as it were. Good luck pulling that off.

The issue with balance isn't that your weapons are stupidly powerful, but that the enemies can dish it out equally or take/evade it.
So you might have enemies that charge off your nuke, or throw the missiles back at you or that shoot nukes themselves, then everyones just trying to survive even with stupidly powerful shit. Weapons of Mass Destruction mod for Q2 was kind of like that. People would get guns that would send fiery nuke shit around and murder whole rooms instantly, but everyone can get it. Same with some excessive mod servers for Q3, some were tuned for utter destruction.

Nah man you don't understand.
The nuke pistol wipes out nuts.wad in one shot.
You can't shrug that off.

What you're describing is what seems to be happening with Dakka. Yeah, you get damned good guns, but the monsters being made for it do too. It eventually turns into Serious Sam style gameplay, where everything dies in a couple seconds and you have to be completely in tune with your environment to stand a chance.

Carmack basically states that he did not agree with his views but what happened to him was just mob tactics and bullying with SJW's trying to make him make an insincere apology and being against people having personal opinions that have nothing to do with how they work in a company.

It is. I don't agree with him, but he also has 1st Amendment rights like everybody else.

>with SJW's trying to make him make an insincere apology
Progressives love insincere apologies. I genuinely do not understand why.

Do they honestly think they change someone's mind by coaxing them into making an apology that the person very often does not believe in and is not sincere about? That's kindergarten tier shit.

They're not going to stop being a homophobe or a racist or whatever just because you pressured them into saying "I'm sorry", they're going to just do it more quietly from then on, and then secretly resent you.

It's just more bullying, it's twisting the blade. Like "Yeah we broke you!".
It's become a movement at this point where they do all the things trolls and assholes do without but think it's ok because "I say I support [x]".

At least trolls and assholes are aware when they do the exact same things that they're causing hurt when they do it (which may be why they do it).
SJW's dangerously rationalize it all away.

Like Carmack said
"The idea that someone cant have any integrity if they hold a position you disagree with is very, very damaging to discourse".

>The NYU Game Center Lecture Series Presents: ‘Doom & Myst 20 Years After’

>There are few games as important or influential as Doom and Myst. While Doom founded what would become one of the defining genres of video games, Myst introduced a huge new audience to the digital art form.

>Join us for an evening with two of the most important creative forces behind these two world changing games, John Romero (Doom) and Rand Miller (Myst), as they discuss their visionary works. The free-wheeling conversation, moderated by Frank Lantz, director of the NYU Game Center, will find the two legends meditating on their subsequent careers, sharing their thoughts about the development and future of the game industry, and commenting on the legacies of each other’s work.

He needed to not react to people saying stupid things by saying stupid things himself. The idea that it's all 100% on him is people trying to rewrite history or whining about some mark defense force.

Like it or not, Brutal brought a shitload of attention to doom and it was overall a great boost. The only people that know (or care) about Marks drama are generally other doom modders and those who follow them closely.

No, it's not. Mark brought a lot of idiots to the community,. The idea that he was beneficial to the community has no base whatsoever.

Furthermore, I'm just gonna say it right now - The people blaming Mark for his shit are not rewriting history. We've hung around and followed this community for quite while, and on several different fronts, and it's easy to see that Mark dug his own grave just by being a genuinely terrible person.

You don't think that being such a hugely rated mod on mod DB with hundreds of thousands of downloads and all that press did not bring in a single person to the game who may go on to try something else?

Fucking lol, honestly dude. Why don't you make some effort to look at this rationally.

Mark was an idiot though the stuff he did had his name attached which was the real sticker. His mouth and not knowing when to stop was one thing, telling that guy to kill himself was probably the tipping point.

Mark is not the point however.
The point is that of all the shitloads of people who played Brutal, some would go on to play other doom items.

Saying they're all COD kiddies or whatever just makes it easier to hate mark because it does not take the good with the bad.
Also, mark actually made decent maps.

I'm sorry, have you even seen the people that Mark attracted to the community? Because I have, and let me tell you - they're certainly not rational. They're also not creative, or logical, and oftentimes not even capable of solving basic issues without being spoonfed.

I have yet to see a single person worth two shits who has come to this community because of Brutal Doom, and quite honestly? I'm pretty darn certain that anyone who would come here and contribute to the community from Brutal Doom's exposure would have eventually found their way here anyways.

After pretty much everyone beat down on him to add it. And those people either threatened to leave due to controversy (like over the racist comment issue), or openly hate Mark (Mike12). They also contributed in other, better ways.

Mark's coding is fucking horrible. He didn't introduce anyone to modding through Brutal Doom because people who look at Brutal Doom see a giant clusterfuck of badly-indented spaghetti code that doesn't even work right with corner cases (if you can call HAVING AN INVULNERABILITY SPHERE a corner case), and either get befuddled that it ever worked (if they know how to mod, which they don't since >introduce), or get scared off because of it.

Note that with his resource pool pretty much blocked off (banned from all the forums that matter), Sgt Mark IV has been reduced to... adding ripple effects. And some decals. This has taken *months*. That's shit I can do in a couple days at most.

Oh yeah, and not so long ago SgtMarkIV came in here and threw a shitfest over Mike12 using a muzzle flash SgtMarkIV ripped on an assault rifle Mike12 sprited. Which he then promptly resprited because he had bigger things to worry about than a muzzle flash.

We're not basing this off nothing.

Pistol fires as fast as you can click and kinda makes the chaingun useless, regular shotgun I think does more damage than super shotgun, and then some more minor things like BFG 9000 causing self damage, as well as the Plasma Rifle (At extreme close range).

I'm sorta dicking around with it in SLADE and trying to balance it a bit, but I've kinda run into a snag. Archviles are supposed to take 4 SSG blasts to kill, I've rebalanced both to match their stats from Vanilla Doom, yet for some reason Archvile now goes down in two super shotgun blasts.

Archviles take bonus shotgun damage. I think it was 2.5x
They also have a 100% flinch rate when hit with shotguns.

Chaingun actually is better than the pistol because it does more damage per bullet.

SG got a buff from the vanilla SG by getting an extra 3 pellets per shot.
However the SSG is nerfed because the pellets do 4-12 damage each instead of 5-15.
The damage change applies to the SG as well, but since it's getting an extra 3 pellets per shot it's stronger.

Plasma does self damage at point blank.
BFG has the damage cloud and nerfed rays.

Mexico. At least I'm aware of three doomers (one of them which, surprisingly enough, lives in the same city as me) that live here too.

To think that Doom is somehow "invaded" by our people is illogical. This country is XBox's territory (when it comes to FPS anyway, I think you all know by now about the one arcade game we all play the most), there isn't really any BIG representation of mexicans (or latin-americans for that matter) in Doom as some people like to think. I say this because for some strange reason, a few people like to think that: 3 random people that happen to speak spanish in a server = OH NOES MEXICANS INVADIN MUH DOOM.

(If we were that big in Doom, where's the Spanish language lump for ZDoom? Oh, that's right. Shrekmate, atheists)

We don't play Doom as much as, say, Metal Slug or KOF, all they play in here is CoD, Halo or Gears. We don't have enough people to create our own clan or some shit, that's a big ass myth

The two big issues are the Archvile HP and BFG changes.

This is the big problem because lots of mapsets want you to take out Archviles with rockets.
And with the HP changes they take 10 direct rockets each.
Maybe a rocket vulnerability on them? Or tone their HP down?

The BFG being weakened also makes hordes of enemies in any map really not manageable.

>Zombiemen and Shotgun Guys
Pistol on zombieman, use Shotgun on Shotgunners when possible. Use the SSG only when there's a bunch of 'em.

>Chaingun Dudes
A single shotgun blast SHOULD bring 'em down. Use the SSG for a safe kill. The chaingun helps too

>Imps
A single shotgun blast SHOULD do the job, if it doesn't, switch to pistol. Using the pistol 7 times often tends to kill 'em. Needless to say a chaingun helps wonders too

>Pinky
In 1 out of 3 chances you can kill 'em with TWO shotgun blasts, if you don't, switch2pistol. Use the chaingun for a safe kill and the Chainsaw to save ammo if you happen to have it. No need to speak about the SSG because it is basic knowledge how to handle 'em with it

>Cacodemon
It takes 6 shotgun blasts (and therefore 3 SSG shots) to bring one of those fuckers down, BUT if you happen to be carrying a chainsaw, FOR THE LOVE OF JEEBUZ FUGGEN USE IT. Cacos do not retaliate against it and you'll end up saving ammo.

>Hell Knights
Once again, 6 shotgun blasts or 3 well placed SSG shots and you're good to go.

>Revenants
Two precise SSG blasts kills 'em, and a well placed rocket does the job too. But for a safer approach use the chaingun against those fuckers. You can use the plasma rifle too but why w/e

>Mancubi
It takes like 6(?) SSG shots to kill 'em, and regularly 4 rockets. Once you learn about his shots not being so precise it shouldn't be difficult to kill one of 'em

>Pain Elementals
Stay close to them and melee those fuckers to death to save ammo. Do not waste important ammunition on PE that you might need later (SSG, Plasma)

>Lost Souls
Two shotgun blasts or a single SSG shot does the job, use chaingun to stun 'em. Remember to use ammo/health pickups as a shield against 'em

>Archviles
I don't recall the exact number of SSG blast that kills 'em (4 or 5?) but dear lord the SSG is the weapon2go against 'em. If you're given enough space use 4 rockets against 'em.

Seems kind of balanced considering the ammo usage.

Chainsaws also feel pretty rare in most level sets but how about..

Picking it up once uses more ammo than 8 per shot.
Then picking it up a second and third time reduces the cost to 16 then 8?

Is ammo going to be common for the Scrapper? This also plays a part in balancing it.

>> No.1529248

>>1529241
Ammo for the Scrapper will come entirely from you using bullets, shells, and cells.
Conversion ratio (source:scrap)
2:1 for pistol rounds (10mm)
1:2 for shells
1:1 for chaingun rounds (5mm)
1:1 for cells, in batches of 20

So you explicitly *have* to use other guns a lot to be able to spam the Scrapper. Kind of a neat side effect!
