It's not the source of the sound that is shit, it's the utter shit composition of idiots making 'chiptunes' that is shit. Original game music featured tight, concise rhythms to fit into loops and make a gaming experience more enjoyable.

'Chiptune' hipsters these days make poorly composed trytoohard shit that can't keep in time and has overwrought melodies all over the place.

That's why it's shit if it's not from a game, because it's a bunch of talentless hacks making utter hackjobs of music that lack what made game music great.

There's talentless musicians in every genre. The chip tune scene is fairly diverse with a wide range of people producing a wide range of music. There's a lot of variation both in terms of quality and style.

Your distinction between good and bad still seems utterly arbitrary, if in a game good, if not bad, you're just searching for a way to justify it.

>> No.1512816

Well, some people can't handle a song being longer than a 45 second loop. Some people didn't grow up listening to Dream Theater or any violin sonatas and understand complexity within constraints. Some people probably saw an Anamanaguchi concert with a bunch of teenagers dancing and somehow felt like his childhood was being somehow 'stolen' from him.

Luckily, this is not all of us.

A chiptune album composed by guitarists, not chippers-first or keyboardists-first:

Virt's magnum opus:
