What are some of your favorite games that don't get mentioned very often?

I mean the games that never get 'Top Games on Whatever Console' lists or just don't get much attention in general.

Pic related. Love this game enough to consider it one of the best games on the Sega Genesis.

Also, Panic Restaurant on the NES and Framed on the PC.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say 'Natsume games in general'. They're one of the most underrated game developers of all time.

Nowadays, they're mostly known for publishing Harvest Moon and Rune Factory...but back during 4th gen they were one of the best developers around.

Wild Guns, The Ninja Warriors Again, Pocky & Rocky, Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Gundam Wing: Endless Duel...all fantastic.

The Ninja Warriors Again, in particular, is one of the best beat 'em up games ever made.

On NES, too they made some of the best action games.
Shatterhand, Powerblade, Shadow Of The Ninja, Abadox, SCAT, also The Three Eyed One which is still overlooked. On Famicom, Chaos World is one of the best RPG on the system and Choujin Sentai Jetman is a good action game running on the Shatterhand engine.

and yeah the ninja warriors on snes is fantastic

Destiny of an Emperor for NES.

It's one of the most well-made RPGs made for the NES (gotta love Capcom quality) and my personal favorite game ever based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

Darius Gaiden

Darius series in general doesn't get much lip service usually, though that seems to be changing lately for some reason.

harleys humungous adventure for sure.

I beat it when I was around 9 or 10. I had this strange love for movies like "honey I shrunk the kids" and anything involving being shrunk down in size. Some of the best music on thge snes.

Golvellius is a game no one ever mentions. Don't know how it holds up now, but back in the day it was amazing. It's like Zelda with an overworld to explore from a top-down perspective, but it also has auto-scrolling, side-scrolling and top-down scrolling dungeons. A great concept that I hasn't been done since

I can't think of a NES game I've ever played that had such tight jumping. The music in this game is also unlike most NES BGM I've ever heard. A song like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eo3yQ6f3YTM sounds like it was written for a Streets of Rage game

At least StarTropics is generally mentioned on the discussion of underrated NES classics, but Zoda's Revenge isn't, and if it is it's said to be an inferior sequel--end of discussion.

It's different from the original, but I feel most of the changes positioned it in the right direction and made it damned good. The dungeons are better, but people refuse to see past the lack of the yo-yo (inconsequential to gameplay) and time-travel to mostly-different locations, as if everyone wanted another game with one setting for most of game.

Zoda's Revenge had better (and more) music, dungeons, movement mechanics, bosses, and weapons. It improved on the original on every way a sequel should and deserves to be considered a gem. The only legitimate flaw concerns its lack of puzzles and the odd removal of post-hit invincibility.

I remember hating the music for Zoda's Revenge, but will admit I did not get very far into the game, just didn't hook me like the original did. Can you give me an example of a good music track from Zoda's Revenge?

I wish there had been a sequel to Faxanadu for the Super Nintendo that had you back at the giant tree. That game had some of the coolest background/foreground graphics for a game and really made me feel the colossal size of that world tree!

It's the fucking best, right? You see gameplay footage and it doesn't look like it'd be great...but then you play it and everything just clicks and you realize it's a brilliant game.

When I think PC platformer, I think of Framed before I think of Commander Keen.

Jackal. Can I say Jackal? Jackal is very underrated as a run'n'gun, even though you're technically driving a jeep. I never even heard about it until a few years ago, but damn, that is a quality product.

These are also excellent samples of ST2 music. It's important to note that ST2 has about twice as many tracks as the first game.
