What retro games do you play to unwind and relax?

Do you like lengthy RPGs?
Balls-to-the-walls action games?
Simulators or strategy games?

I have flooded myself with games that take too long to get into or are too difficult and need some nice, relaxing fun to forget about the frustration.

Comfy retro thread

Tetris is always an excellent game to unwind to, pilotwings 64 is pretty comfy too.

a little game called harvest moon, maybe you've heard of it

Tetris is great on the bus. Almost forgot about PW64.

That game is far too stressful for me. So much room for errors and ends up feeling like a job.

Earthbound, kirby super star, pokemon gold are some good ones I like. I also enjoy Super Mario Kart 64, especially playing Koopa Troopa Beach over and over (dat BGM)

I find very relaxing traveling the world of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon while listening to the music.

Pokemon R/B and G/S are nice as well.

For whatever reason, Run 'n Guns are the best for me when I'm trying to relax. I suck when I actually try to play, but when I just play it for fun I get much farther and die much less. Kinda funny.

My most comfiest game is Paper Mario. But I think it's likely because I've beaten it so many times I don't even need to think of what I'm doing or where I'm going in it. A lot of N64 games are comfy to me, Banjo Kazooie, Mario 64, Pokemon Snap, Harvest Moon 64, etc etc.

But I also freaking adore Bust a move for snes, I used to play it every night before going to bed.

Old lengthy RPGs where you and your friends go on adventures and fight monsters regardless of danger for random reasons and discover the meaning of friendship and adventure

I don't have much time to play nowadays and being able to play something like Grandia for an hour or two a week is really great

Once you actually get good at a platformer, you can chill out with something that seems "hard" on the surface. I find breezing through the first 4 worlds of Ninja Gaiden fairly relaxing actually. Not good enough at the game to say the same for the last 2 worlds though...

I've played ninja gaiden enough to almost totally zone while playing yet still win no continues. That being said, FF1/Tetris are my favorite chill games, the story in FF1 is perfect to me because its just vague enough to let my imagination go wild.

One of my favourite simple games is Devil's Crush on the Turbografx-16. It's just pinball, but by far the best vidya pinball I have ever played.

Also the music is awesome:

Turf Masters on the Neo Geo. I often play it in bed after getting wasted at the bar. Pick the German every time.

I find Descent to be a very relaxing and easy to pickup game, once you find controls that are suitable for you, all while still being extremely fun, fast paced, and intricate at the same time.

>tfw my local /vr/ shop's N64 inventory is mostly all wrestling games* and racers**; have never come across PW64

* not that there is, to my knowledge, anything wrong with those games; it's just not a genre I've ever gotten into
** problem here being that I already own most all of them, except the ones they never carry, e.g. Beetle Adventure Racing

I always dip back into Yoshi's Island. That game is the physical embodiment of my childhood, and all the nostalgias.

Oh yeah, and FF Tactics Advance. Not retro enough? whateverrrrrrrrr
