Can we have an Atari 2600 thread?

Suggestions, favorite games, advice for making homebrews, etc.

I've been playing Yars Revenge lately.

You keep asking, and I keep telling you to play Spider Fighter but you never listen.

TEMPEST

Never gets old.

Anyone know a good version to have other than Atari's web version?

Dude, that game rocks.

Manic shooter at its finest.

I remember seeing a video of a 2600 game that had this pseudo 3D first person view, was really cool looking. I think you navigated some kind of maze while running from a monster. Anyone know what I'm talking about? Would love to see it again.

There's a bunch. Skeleton and Skeleton+, Escape from the Mindmaster, and a couple of overly ambitious ones that are awful.

Like always Demon Attack. Also everything by Imagic and Activision. Really like Ice Hockey too

Game really is pretty good. Has two endings too, regular and secret.

Here's my two cents. I should really get the mp3 of this game and put it on my Supercharger permanently.

How do you people spend time playing non-3D games? They're boring...

Fuck, I searched for that on ebay and I ended up buying this.

1998 had the best everything.

Anybody know a good place for picking up manuals to these games? Aside from google, I mean, which is a tad undependable.

I thought about doing an Atari 2600 game for this weekend's Mini Ludum Dare (theme: demakes) but I decided I'd spend my whole weekend remembering how to get a simple kernel working and wouldn't even get to the game.

On the plus side, the 2600 is really well-documented among consoles. There is (was?) a very strong homebrew scene, including a couple of books.

I created a thread a while ago challenging people to play that game and post their scores. Where were you?

Everything got really intense around 12k.

I couldn't handle it.

I played Adventure for the first time just the other day, surprisingly got pretty into it until I beat it. It's not impossible to imagine how that was could have been really fun and amazing back in the day.

bump

Post those Spider Fighter scores Anons.

It's okay, emulating is okay too.
