Does anybody here use dosbox? Can you teach me the ways of remapping keys without fucking it up? I've tried getting into The elder scrolls, but couldn't configure shit out of it without fucking up dosbox itself. If there are good games that don't require much remapping too, please tell me. Also, great DOS games thread, I guess. Here is a great site and a great pic (I don't think it covers up the early pc gaming era, though.).

You can remap keys in Daggerfall (not sure about Arena) in the options screen, no need to fiddle with Dosbox itself.
Might & Magic 6 will forever be superior though

Get Princess Maker 2 and Jetpack

I have a thing for those old, weird text mode games, like Apogee's "Kroz" series, and Epic Megagames "ZZT". Here's a good intro:
http://auntiepixelante.com/?p=2103
(also check wikipedia, they have tons more info). These days there's also "MegaZeux" which is way more powerful than those earlier game engines, but a lot of the mods aren't really text mode and I feel it has strayed too far from its roots to become just another generic game-maker tool. Anyway, it's got some nice stuff too.

These look pretty good. Never really enjoyed Wrpgs though, where should I start from?

I'm not really into that, anon. Jetpack looks niced though.

>>1485667
In Arena there isn't an option. I tried, fucked dosbox up, got mad and uninstalled everything. GoG should really give it some attention.

>>1485774
These look hard. Are they roguelikes?

Ok then.

Mechwarrior 2 (as well as Mercenaries and Ghost Bear's Legacy) is a must play as far as I'm concerned.

Even has a high definition display mod from Mech2.org you can apply.
http://www.mech2.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=213#p997

The only real thing to get past is to properly play you need to have a .bin and .cue of the games, and do an imgmount on the .cue.

Here's the last lines from my conf file for Mechwarrior 2.

imgmount d "I:\MECH2\mech2.cue" -t iso -fs iso
mount c "I:\MECH2"
c:
mech2

Just make sure whatever version you get it is the DOS version. The Windows 95 version is honestly a headache to work with.

WOW! this looks awesome! How come I never heard of it?

>> No.1486883

Play System Shock. There's a quite good version of it that can run with or without dosbox, has resolution upscale and wasd/mouselook mods, and other neat stuff.

Why haven't you heard of Mechwarrior 2?

I don't know. Its not exactly an obscure game. My copy came with my computer.

Its the special ATI Rage edition that will not work with any other video card. Useful.

I guess it just wasn't popular around here. Are there any other good games in the series?

Mechwarrior 3 (and the expansion Pirate's Moon) are good, if a bit hard to get working (you will crash and experience bugs on newer systems).

Mechwarrior 4 was okay in its own right, though rather different from the other games. Mechwarrior 4 Mercenaries is particularly loved by a particular group of people for its campaign and multiplayer.

The original Mechwarrior was good for the time, though I'd say its best to just play Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries, because you get a similar experience of being a merc working for money.
