Does anyone here know anything about this controller? It's for the Dreamcast. What games would benefit from using this?

I'm not really sure. I was looking for a picture of a dreamcast in google images and saw this with the same filename.

I also found this pic which is weird. It has a usb connection. Did they make saturn pads for use with a PC?

whatever its deal is, the lack of an analogue stick is troubling, since many Dreamcast games made use of both the D-pad AND the analogue stick for different functions.

that's a sega saturn pad. sega released a usb version for pc/mac a few years back, but they're hard to find these days at a descent price. i bought one off ebay for $25 about 5 years ago and it's legit. it's not a problem to find a bunch of shit-tier chinese knockoffs on ebay now. if you want a descent pad with a 6 button layout like that for dreamcast, check out the ascii pad ft.

That's a normal Saturn jp model 2 pad. Someone just renamed it to Dreamcast.

It might be possible to make the Saturn pad work on the DC though, from what I remember the DC Arcade Sticks were the same thing as the Saturn arcade pads (the later ones anyway), with a pinout converter showed inside the boards.

>>1477763
Sega Logistics Service released a USB Saturn pad around ~2003 or 2004 for PC, in multiple colours even. Black, grey, white, and I believe champagne (possibly to mimic the colour scheme of a promo-image-only Saturn case). So yes, they did make Saturn parts for the PC at one point. However they are long sold out and nowadays you can only buy shitty knockoffs.

They also officially released a Saturn pad for the PS2, it had an extra select button and the little cd controller marks in the plastic were changed to Playstation controller figures (x, circle, triangle, etc).

yes and unfortunately there's tons of really shitty knockoff by brands like gtron & retrolink. the only good usb saturn controllers were made by sega and later licensed by sega and made my sls. sls also made a ps2 version which added a select button.

SLS -is- Sega. A branch of them anyway. I have a Saturn made by them - it is in fact a refurbished machine manufactured years earlier by Seiyo Denshi.

>> No.1483621

>>1483601
Well not shit, the brand is called Sega Logistics Service. The service part should be a dead giveaway, that they started as a separate repair center and eventually migrated into other markets. Such as manufacturing USB Saturn controllers after Sega first made them in very limited runs. The quality of which supposedly matches that of a real Saturn controller. Which the SLS controller does not. But does come very close to. As the plastic shell is weaker and the micro-switches are inferior too.

>> No.1483623

>>1477732
Wait, that's a thing for DC?

Fuck, what would I look for?
"saturn controller dc" doesn't bring something like that up

>> No.1483630

I've been considering trying a USB knockoff Saturn controller, but they get such mixed reviews here.

But when I've looked for just getting a Saturn and buying an adapter its usually poorly listed as to what the damn thing comes with even on Amazon. If it has controllers, the ram cart, wires, etc or not. Anyone else run into this issue?

Its just hard to tell what they have with them and even just buying a saturn controller and adapter alone I would think the potential wear over the years may have them less than functional or do they hold up well? I mean N64 is the extreme case, but getting anything not in a sealed package with that is pointless.

Or should I just get the controller/adapter and emulate if Saturn emulation is no longer shit. I really don't know. But I know the models can be a gamble if you plan to mod chip as I understand. Same reason I hesitate on the dreamcast, because not all models will play a CDR.

>> No.1483638

>>1481948
Sure it was, Sega had them for the megadrive. I didn't like them cus you have to point to controller at the IR port and I have a habit of moving the pad as I play.

You want a SLS Saturn controller. It'll likely set you back about $70-$150. Or if you're like me and know how to tell them apart, you can score big. Got mine and a shit-ton of other goodies for like $14. Seller was royally asspained after. toppest of kek

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Official-SLS-Fukkokuban-Sega-Saturn-USB-Control-Pad-Metallic-Blue-PC-MAC-PS3-/331157140413

See that? That's what you want. The end of the USB connector will always have SEGA written on the molding and there will always be a silver sticker with SLS written on them. That is how you know you're looking at the right controller and not some piece of shit by gtron/retrolink. Do NOT buy the gtron/retrolink, it will break and the dpad will stick. They're shit. S-H-I-T. You got that?

Or you can go with a pair of used Sega Saturn controllers and pickup a USB adapter by Mayflash, like this one: www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Saturn-Controller-to-PC-Dual-USB-adapter-for-SS-controller-Mayflash-2-Port-/261040029058 I have no experience with that adapter, but I LOVE my four player Playstation adapter by them.

>>1483623
It doesn't exist. There's the knockoff Treamcast clone shown in an earlier post, but you likely won't find them anywhere. What you want is a real Sega Saturn controller and the Saturn to Dreamcast adapter by Innovation. these are real

a long long time ago sega had this program called "sega play" where you could go to a website and play SEGA games from there. Didnt need any hardware or anything.

It was like $6 a month if I remember and if you got 3 months they gave you one of these controllers.

way before emulators took, this service was ahead of its time. Specially since most people didnt have computers back then. Now Sony is doing the same thing with its games.

SEGA was doing so much back then. Even the dreamcast had a modem in it for online miltiplayer.
