Was everyone in FF9 other than rat bitch and blue-skin dude meant to be various species of dwarf? I mean... there's the dwarf town and they're different from everyone else, but all the characters have very little-people-like proportions.

The FMV isn't even two minutes long.

But that's not what makes IX's ending so brilliant. It's the way sakaguchi uses Vivi's thoughts before death as a way to directly address the fans of classic final fantasy games.

I am continuously shocked by how few people understand this game. It is actually too deep for most players to wrap their heads around.

I get so fuzzy when Fratley tells Freya that he loves her, even if he never gets his memory back. I think it's the only time the phrase "I love you" is ever spoken by anyone in the series.

I never did like how it goes completely unexplained how he even survived Cleyra, though. I always felt like they had something written up but were strapped for time or money and had to skip it.

I think you mean Mass Effect 3.

Yeah I said it. I saved all the universe for everyone for all time. I fucking loved the original ending. Apologies for not /vr/, but sometimes a man gotta speak the truth.

Also, for me FF9 goes as follows:

something about a play, a swamp I think, lets get a summon oh no it's evil lets get another one oh no it's evil lets get another one oh no it's evil lets keep doing this till we run out of summons then super confusing disc 4 where there are monkey people for some reason and then yoda attacks me and garnet kills him in one turn.

Still better than 12/13. At least I can remember SOME of the plot of this one.

I just can't fucking undetrstand the people saying VII is the best final fantasy, Cloud is just hateable to no end. And this next is more of a personal preference but the gameplay suffers from a "what the fuck is this character supposed to do?" in which you don't know if to use one character physically, magic or heal.
Maybe it is because VII was "baby's first JRPG" but for me IX was way much better

to quote the gametrailers.com retrospective... "Although IX received critical acclaim, it was faced with mixed feelings from fans. While elder players looked upon it with warm nostalgia, the younger set simply... didn't get it. Nethertheless, Sakaguchi has stated several times that Final Fantasy IX is his personal favorite."

Interpret that as you will.

Personally I think it's just nostalgia, where FF7 was not only the first FF of many people who call it the best, but also their first RPG period. Personally I think 7 is damn good, my third favorite of the series, but 9 beat it out as second on my list, and 6 takes first prize for me, which also I admit may also be from nostalgia because my brother wouldn't let me play the first FF else I would overwrite his save, so 6 was the first one I played all the way through.

I think it is more to do with the fact that JRPG's was somewhat stagnated. With new FFs being hated, and the only new games are either obscure or designed to pander to the otaku audience in Japan, there isn't much to look forward to there.

>> No.1481850

It's a matter of pacing more than anything. Like when games force you to listen to exposition as you walk to the next fight. They are breaking the flow because they are usually after a minor encounter, where you just want to get to the next one, and you don't quite feel like you're "done" with the gameplay, yet. When you go into an RPG town, you know it's going to be slow paced with a lot of dialogue, and when you are in a dungeon, you know there will combat and exploration. Modern games aren't as rigidly segmented so gameplay and cutscenes need to happen in the same space. Also, they aren't quite as interesting because they rarely involve the player, with the plot and progress being determined by characters around the player, but with player never participating. For a player to feel involved, what happens in the story needs to be DIRECTLY impacted by what the player does. Even if the player can only progress by doing this one action, involving the player makes you feel like a participant rather than a passenger.

No proofreading because I don't even know why I'm awake.

He was created as a prototype Black Mage, but fell from the Dali cargo ship, and one of Quina's species found him. He raised Vivi up in his cave, with the intention of eating him later, but died before Vivi got big enough.
Vivi goes back to that cave during a QTE and you can meet him there to hear some back story, and after you get an airship you can go with Vivi and Quina to see another scene.
It's worth going for the items that are there too.
