Donovan's early Blizzard Sword special, completely different from what it is in the finished game. In the finished game he shoots a big snowflake that travels forward in a shallow arc, but here he makes his sword come flying down at an angle from the top of the screen covered in ice, as seen in the top-right of this screenshot. Including this, there are lots of tales that are told about the location tests for Darkstalkers 2, since Capcom apparently did a rather extensive location test campaign for it all across Japan and lots of people played it. Donovan was overall a much stronger character during those tests, despite ending up being the second worst character in the finished game.

There are rumors stretching as far back as OoT (see Sam's interview on Zeldapower) that the poe seen in the beta screens and that you can vaguely see there in the backgrounds behind the volumetric fog was a guide like the Haunted Wasteland in the final game. However there was never any merit to it *until* ALBW came out which feature what else, a poe guide.

It mentions a "special new head on" attack (what?), assumes X is the same Megaman (passable), has a giant drawing of X that is nothing like even his sprite design (is it fan art or something?), and the picture with the bee/fly copter has a caption about bosses being more spectacular. If the author even played that segment, it's pretty damn obvious that it isn't a boss, and we have no other evidence of it being a boss in the past. It's not even mini-boss level "spectacular".

I have to say though, the screenshots make it look like the ruined highway intro stage transitioned to daytime (one of the day shots has the plane/airship/whatever that Vile drops out of in it). That would have been awesome.

Wow, great stuff! I wonder why they didn't use the 'destroyed' save room in the parking lot, they could have put it after when the gravedigger ruins the place, it would have fit. Also I love the sound and effect of the pistol, it feels so powerful, like a real gun, while in the real game that gun feels like a toy. Maybe it felt too powerful compared to more powerful guns though which is why they changed it...

>> No.1470089

>>1470061
I have to concur with the pistol, it's better in the final release.
I think that bus entrance would lead to the power station, I remember some barricaded door or street front it, and the same street would lead to the park or hospital or both. If that's the case, it must've meant for a quick cross. Good thing they scratched the last idea.

I maybe dilating but there's a grate box hanging near the land of the stair, that leads to the power station shaft, that might've meant for something.

Man, that sounds kinda dumb but awesome at the same time. I wonder if this was a result of a mistranslation or if it was their idea all along? Seems kind of an edgy idea for the franchise.

It almost sounds like what the plot would be if Capcom had decided to toughen-up/Westify the plot to MMX, which I think would have been pretty doable by simply rewriting dialogue and the manual.

What interests me most are the daylight city screens. I wonder if those were just mockups or from a build that was otherwise never committed to EPROMs, or if there really is some sample cart out there somewhere with a build containing that scene. The prior seems more likely, but you never know. Most obtainable prototypes of eventually released games are generally rather similar to the final builds for the most part, but there are always exceptions.

That miniboss always seemed odd to me. It is quite generic looking and feels out of place in Sting Chameleon's stage (not to mention how the design of the robot almost seems out of place in MMX in general), and its surprising prominence on the Rockman X box art indicate to me that it was perhaps a leftover from an earlier incarnation of the game in which it might have better fit in and perhaps played a larger role than an out-of-the-way optional boss.

Seriously, that thing is third in prominence only to X and Sigma on the Rockman X box.

The beta quest for ocarina was similar, it just shuffled the pointers I believe for exits. So basically, you could walk into hyrule square and end up in a kokiri shop. There was once a game Directed by film legend John Singleton.

It was called Fear and Respect and starred Snoop Dogg as the main Protag.

I used to have a GameInformer with this as the cover story. I guess it was ment to be a Third Person Shooter, Kinda like Max Payne and True Crime.

It was around the time San Andreas came out so it was based off the hype of that game since it took place in central LA.

It was a midway game though. which might of caused it demise but It's unknown really why it was cancelled. I just remember finding my GameInformer years after and wondered what happened to it.

From the Screenshots tho and this little trailer, It didn't really look like anything special.

>The game was to be an open-world action-adventure, in the vein of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. It featured a "Respect" system, where interactions with other gang members, personal appearance and actions would earn the player respect from allies, also making enemies fear the player.

So i.e, a San Andreas clone.

It was gonna be a launch title for the Xbox360, PS3 and was gonna also come out for the PS2 and Xbox. I don't know if there was a PC port but most likely.

I've seen some other weird shit on youtube, but that spoiler contains the only semi-solid theory I know of. But yeah, from my understanding there is a good deal of content cut from M3 due to testers thinking it was too depressing.

Just consider
>nintendo started as a "grey market" company making cards specifically for local yakuza gambling dens
>up until the 80s or so, nintendo regularly had yakuza "inspectors" check out their card factory to insure that the cards were being made and packaged to the yakuza's "standards".
>in the 70s, nintendo made minor ventures into the sex industry with so-called "love hotels".

Earthbound had such shitty graphics. What was their real excuse?

Too late into the lifespan of the N64, would've been released after the GCN was out because it was only 70% done when they cancelled it and it had already been delayed multiple times.

Though considering Mother 3 GBA was released after the DS Lite was out, seems like they just stopped caring at some point.

I like to think that earthbound 64 was just earthbound 3 in 3d. But why they stopped making earthbound?

If you're talking about the Mother series in general, just because Itoi doesn't want to make any more games.

Just because a new console gets released doesn't mean they need to halt development on games for the previous gen system.

It was cancelled in 2001. Mother 64 probably wouldn't have been done until ~2003.

I remember teading an interview a while back where he talked about it.

Supposedly the bit at the end where you can walk around and talk to the characters was new. The original ending just had the catclysmic destruction, then fade to white, leaving the player to ponder what happened.
