1449991 No.1449991 [Reply] [Original]

When someone sells a game on ebay and it looks like pic related, rather than just shrink wrapped, does that simply mean they've had it sent to be graded so they can potentially increase the price.

Any time I look at a game, the most expensive copy will always be in one of those plastic cases, I'm guessing the game can be removed from it and still have the wrapping on as it would have in a store.

>>1449991
Those 'VGA graded' games are a joke. It's supposed to be some sort of preservation method, but its nothing more than an exuse for the seller to artificially inflate the price like crazy. To everyone else, it just plain stupid because you can't play the god damn game.

one day when i'm unreasonably wealthy i'm going to buy a bunch of sealed VGA graded games on ebay then do unboxing videos.

ending with me throwing them, loose, into my pile of ridiculously expensive carts for the lawls

one day.

That'd be hilarious. Just you smashing them out of their plastic containers with a hammer, ripping the wrapping off, and throwing them onto your pile of games.

Yeah good idea, I won't even play them.

I'll be /vr/'s favorite e-celeb.

Don't buy the graded games from sellers, just buy sealed games and get them graded yourself, then open them.
If you buy the games graded, your only feeding the jews.

This guy gets it.

How much is grading these days? I remember it being pretty fucking expensive back a few years ago.

>> No.1452138

I used to get mad at these VGA guys, but really, all they've done is artificially create holy grails for "geek culture" enthusiasts (morons) to covet.

Who pays for VGA grading? Idiots and resellers.
Who buys VGA-graded games? Idiots and resellers.

It's just taking a few sealed videogames which were never going to be in circulation or even played, and putting them on a platform to distract the worst of the wealthy end of the hobby's spectrum. I am all for it.

>> No.1452153

I always offer them $1. That's about how much I'd pay for a video game I can never play.

Someone post that picture of 100 VGA score Twilight Princess being sold.

>> No.1452180

The only appeal of sealed games to me is the fact that they kinda make you relive the moment you got a new game as a kid. In that aspect, a sealed game is like a time machine to the 80's/90's. It's the same thing with Lego collectors. Opening that new lego box makes you feel like a kid again.

The VGA grading is just stupid though. It's just an artificial tool to increase the price based on how perfect the box looks.

>> No.1452181

>>1452165
Not that I buy into the retarded rating system, but how would they get 100? Having it delivered from the factory to the VGA guys?

>> No.1452182

Would it be possible to buy high-rated games and shake them inside the plastic until they got crumpled, or are they fixed in place inside there?

>> No.1452185

>>1452182
You could put the box in water and it would probably get trough. Or you could zap it with an ESD gun and break the game.

Actually a good idea to fleece twats. Buy a game on release, get it graded.

Somebody will buy it .

I'm sure it didn't because in that case he was trying to sell it for thousands of $ on ebay. No one is that stupid...yet. Gotta wait until it's completely gone from stores.

That's not what collectors are interested in. They like factory sealed and will pay more for it.

If you just want to play the game then you're not the market they're aimed at.

>> No.1452307

>>1452181
There isn't exactly a list of criteria for this sort of thing. The ratings are made by some guy sitting in his garage and they're based entirely on how he's feeling on that particular day. I'm not even sure if it's possible to get a 100 rating. It's quite common for people to send in brand new games and get a rating of 85 or less, while paying far more than the game's worth for the privilege.

Actually, they fill the casing with Nitrogen, to preserve.

Faggot.

My VGA 95± "Chameleon Twist 2" for N64 will be with about $500 in a few years time. No pic, as the flash would strain the ink on the box.

Filling a case with nitrogen doesn't help when they put air holes for it to "breathe."

no it won't.

>> No.1452338

I have a question. I see VGA graded Famicom games, despite Famicom games never being sealed. While they obviously still grade them, why do they do it? How do they know you didn't open a new game, play it, fill the box with pubes, close it up and send it in to them?

I also like the stupidity of the prototype authentication service. If you have almost any experience with these games, you can easily tell if they are protos or not. The only ones that are ambiguous I would bet money that they too would be unable to get strong proof of one way or the other.

>> No.1452521

>>1452338

They do open EVERYTHING up. They'll know if you put pubes in there dude

>> No.1453435

>>1449991

No you cannot open these things, otherwise the game could be replaced with a reproduction or be tampered with. These cases are not just plastic sealed boxes, but almost like liquid plastic let to set. One of these things will withstand a nuclear happening while preserving the contents inside. Once an item has been graded like this, it's only purpose is to look good and will never be played again.

This troll would have been more effective if you'd used a noble gas.

Also, if VGA cases were something impermeable, and not cheap plastic.

Also, if you had mentioned a CD game, and not something on a virtually-indestructible mask ROM.

You know what, it was just a generally shitty post. You should probably fuck off back to >>>/v/.

People will send in a game to be graded, which basically means the game is worth like $500, and the grading people charge like $300, and so the final result is an $800 tag. It means literally nothing.

I'm always on the fence about VGA graded games. I dislike them since they inflate the prices on the games, yet I have a bunch of buddies who collect VGA graded games, so I feel like a dick when I criticize. But then I think to my buddy Paul's copy of Super Mario Bros...
