Can we? Last night it was interesting talking about clones in another thread.

Famiclones are especially abundant, but there also were Atari 2600 clones. Were there SNES clones in it's heyday? Genesis?

Do you own any famiclone? Post pics if you can, or just discuss.

>> No.1443693

I'm tagging along here because there was a question about clones that I wanted to ask myself.

What was the latest system to get a clone console? The latest thing I know of is the GB Boy, but I'm curious if anything else got a clone in the mid to late 90s.

There is a GBA SP clone system that can actually run ROMs from a micro SD slot bult in underneath, and the console itself looks exactly the same as the real deal.

I don't know where to buy, though, been hunting it for a while now.

But yeah, that was quite possible the last cloned gaming system.

I did some browsing. Today they got an awful lot of ORIGINAL Famicoms, for some reason, various prices, but no lower than $100USD.

There's this for roughtly $11, Famiclones but non-functional- so you could try to repair or something

http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-442270821-famiclon-o-family-para-piezas-_JM

And this Famiclone for $15 but it's different from the Famicom.

http://articulo.mercadolibre.com.mx/MLM-443210174-consola-family-marca-mitsui-al-mejor-precio-_JM

Search "Consola Family" for various results, "family" is how them clones were collectivelly known as back then.

Oh! Guess it wore off. Anyway two of my Famiclones are those "Power Joy" ones that look like N64 controllers. They used to be easy as hell to get a few years ago. They can run off batteries that go in the rumble slot or DC. One of them has a zapper built into it and the other has its own little silver gun lookin zapper. Then I got one of the grey and green regular top loading famiclones that has imitation Playstation controllers with it that I like pretty good.

My favorite one though is my King Game Computer II, a keyboard Famiclone with a semi-educational 42-in-1 cart and a mouse! Also shitty miniature imitation playstation controllers and the same little silver gun the power joy came with.

I had one of that type but it didn't have a mouse or any mouse centric games. Not every famiclone is the same. Ordinary "NES on a chip" clones are not worth more then 15 Euros, but backwards engineered hardware clones are. I think early Dendy, which is actually a rebranded Micro Genius(they made some of the best clones ever), is one of those famiclones.
If you don't mind a NOAC system, I know where you can get them for cheap, and i have A LOT of famiclone carts, but the shipping is going to be pricy. Feel free to contact me if you don't find anything for 15E in other places.

I know it's n unpopular opinion around here, but I really like some of the licensed SoC clones. I never actually used a proper bootleg/famiclone, so the SoC/"emulated" ones are the closest I've got. My first ever clone was a black RetroDuo back in 2010, then the following year I got a GenMobile (pic related, no longer manufactured) and an FC-16 Go (portable SNES but not very good compared to SupaBoy and RDP). After that I just moved onto Android.

>>1443693
GBA has been getting a lot of clones lately including GameBox Advance, Revo K-101, and an adapter for SNES (which is really just an SoC that uses the SNES's controller and power supply). YMMV on whether they can actually be considered as clones but I honestly don't care at this point

This new NOAC Dendy is 9 Euros, but i doubt they will bother with international shipping. New clones are hard to find even here(in South-Eastern Europe), and there is no variety. I had one that had the exact famicom shell as a kid(i got it in 1993 or 1994), but as far as i know, they stopped making famicom shaped systems in the mid 90s.

Second world economy is so interesting. The fact that there's a big enough market today, fucking 2014 to make the continued development of Famiclones and unlicensed demakes, to be sold for just a few dollars each blows my mind.

Think of it as the reason why SEGA still sells liscenced Master Systems in Brazil via Tec Toy. Second and Third world families have a very limited income and in Third world's case, a very miserable life. Having some sort of cheap entertainment helps dealing with life and kids.

Nintendo themselves should reproduce the NES, or liscence Famiclones to said countries and make a small profit through it, similar to SEGA in Brazil.

>Nintendo themselves should reproduce the NES, or liscence Famiclones to said countries

Nintendo doesn't even re-release arcade cabinets like Namco has done with Ms. Pac-Man. That's to be expected since MANY of Nintendo's early arcade games were programmed by an outside company, Ikegami Tsushinki. Nintendo reverse engineered DK to make DK Jr, but Ikegami sued for infringement. That explains why all re-releases of DK are of the NES version, and why they went through the effort of adding the missing stage.

Welp, I meant re-release the NES in said second and third world countries, similar to SEGA with the Master System. The Famiclones are still sold and bought so there's deffinitely a market they could exploit and profit at least from console sales while those multi-carts 99999-in-1 keep thriving.

I think nostalgia is what mostly drives those sales now, and they are much lower then they used to be. Also, clones are cheaper to produce then ever, pic related.

People that cant afford anything more modern then famiclone must live in the absolute poorest places in the world. In my second world country(that is poorer now then it was in the 80s) you can go dumpster diving for some windows XP machine.

Here, Famiclones were most popular in the mid 90s, with kids that wanted a Mega Drive but couldn't afford one. Famiclones and games were hard to find around 2000. Now in a city of 1.8 million people there is one place in a Chinese mall that still sells them, and they have like only 10 different carts for it. Im sure only nostalgic gamers buy that stuff these days, or someone that wants a cheap present for a 5 year old.

You're lucky it used to be like that here in the US I could go to Goodwill and buy a Windows XP computer for 99 cents but now they all get shipped off to Dell for "recycling"

I wish someone would put together a comprehensive list of true clones vs SOACs. That one on the right there looks more complex than a real Famicom!
