I need advice.
I bought a PSX off of a guy in one of these threads.
In the thread, he had a picture of a PSX with a DualAnalog controller and power/AV cables.
I emailed him about it, and he claimed that it was the following:
SCPH-5501 Playstation, no modchip, will come with DualAnalog controller, Composite cable, and power cable.
I got it in the mail yesterday, and it was actually an SCPH-7501 with a modchip (No big deal, I was going to put a chip in anyway), came with power and AV cables, but instead of a DualAnalog, it had a normal digital controller with non-working start and select buttons.
In addition, the laser needed calibrating, and even now still has problems with Ridge Racer (That's the only game I've tested since the last adjustment).

Anyway, I emailed him about it, and he apologized, and said that he couldn't find the Dual Analog, that he thought he had said it was a straight digital controller and that if I was not happy, I need to return it to get my money back.

At this point, I really want to share his email, but I know that if I do, that'll ruin all chance of actually getting any good out of this. All I want now is one (or all) of the following:
1. DualAnalog or DualShock Controller
2. PSOne Laser with extension ribbon (To replace shitty worn-out laser that I got).

Any advice, /vr/?

(Also, it's my mistake, but I forgot to video the initial awfulness of the console's behavior. Initially, on Silent Hill, about half of the in-game speech was clipping really badly. I turned the trimmer to adjust the laser a bit, and after more precise calibration, just about every game works pretty OK. I have the laser set to 11.4mV right now, like the dogbreath guide recommends.)

>2: i told you before i mailed it that i couldn't find the dual analog controller and you said send it anyway.
That is not true at all.
You tried to say that you couldn't find it after you sent the thing over, not that you couldn't find it beforehand. I've checked back through my records, and I can't find any mention from you before I received the system that it wasn't going to come with a Dual Analog

Normally I'd try to keep this off /vr/ since the ps2's not retro, HOWEVER, a FMCB memory card is far cheaper and easier to do than hard modding a ps1. And it benefits me, so yeah, heh.

Here's the deal, you pay for the shipping here+back, and I'll mod your card's for free.
If you're weird and own a ps2 but no memory card, if you only have one, or if you want a 1st party card, then I've got this nifty thing in pic related. which is a MC card, flash drive, whatever game had its case stolen to make this (aka a sports game), and a shitty homebrew that may or may not have sharpie doodles on it, all neatly packed away in a genuine playstation case. for the low low price of $20 US dollars American green cash monies.

Once the handful of sets I've got now are gone, then I'm done. I'm already doing these at cost, and no one wants them.

It is a 4/10 rarity, so it isn't even "uncommon"
The reason it is so expensive is because people just decided it was a few years back around the time of Super Smash Bros. Melee/Brawl.

It got to selling well because it was hard to emulate because of a special lock out, but that has been fixed in rom dumps, and now it is inflated beyond all reason.

It is about as rare as any Nintendo non-mario game, like Super Metroid or Zelda.

True, but if there was a gaming BST on /v/, or anywhere else on this site, I wouldn't trust it any further then I could throw it. Don't really want to see people selling current gen stuff here, but I don't think the occasional PS2/Gamecube/GBA/etc game being traded here is going to kill anybody. Even though they aren't to be discussed according to the board rules, they still usually hold interest for those interested in "real" retro games.

when do you think 6th gen is gonna be considered retro? It's retro by my standards (IE being at least 2 generations behind the current gen)

>> No.1449793

Seems silly to me that we can't talk about GBA or PS2/GCN/Xbox anywhere on the board but we can deal them here, even in contradiction of the OP pic that leads off every BST thread.

My ideal scenario would be for all those systems to be open for discussion and trade here, but as long as they are not open for discussion, trading them opens this board up for abuse.

Until then, how about the original author changing the OP pic to spell out new terms? If people want to trade non-retro here, they can do it on the side in direct e-mail correspondence off the thread or in pastebins. There really should be zero posts about disallowed games and systems on this board except in direct relation to retro games and systems.

This is a long shot, but here goes.
Looking for the following NES games in NTSC format, at a reasonable price:

Little Samson
Panic Restaurant

Duck Tales 2
Jetsons: Cogswell's Caper

Just thought I'd ask.

>> No.1469456

>>1469443
May I ask why the hell Little Samson is so fucking expensive? There seems to be no shortage of them on ebay, and as far as I can see there is nothing inherently rare about it. IS it actually rare? Or just something that got hyped for some unknown reason or otherwise became a relatively easy-to-find "HOLY GRAIL?" I've never been an NES collector, so maybe I'm just out of the loop. Is it a new thing, or has it always been so ridiculously overpriced (seriously, many prototypes don't even sell for that much)?

>> No.1469491

>>1469456
>There seems to be no shortage of them on ebay
There's like 6 listings.
That's the most NTSC listings I've seen in quite awhile. The game isn't NWC-tier rare, I don't think, though. Taito made and released quite a few NES games in late '93 and throught '94 that didn't sell well because the NES had already been out for around 2 years. A lot of the more expensive NES games were released in that timeframe, which is why they're slightly more uncommon (or moreso) today.
Little Samson is also really, really fun. It's actually a very good game, which might add to the price.

>> No.1469497

>>1469456
You guys seem to forget that all those Taito games came out in 1992+, and by then people didn't give a shit about the NES anymore, it was all about the SNES. Copies of those games stagnated on the shelves, comparatively speaking, very few of them sold.

>> No.1469524

>>1469491
I'm not saying that it isn't uncommon, but the prices that it apparently sells for make no sense at all to me, no matter how you spin it. A genuinely rare and desirable prototype of California Raisins sold for $500 recently, and that is by definition one of very few in existence, while copies of Little Samson sell for that or more.

I'm more just curious if that insane price is the result of the retro-boom, or if it has sold that high for many years.

with PayPal you can send payments marked for goods, meaning the seller has to pay a small fee, but if they fuck you over you can get your money back within 30 days (I think?). Pretty good rule of thumb to ask seller to use tracking. if they flat out say no, its likely a scam. For sellers, the buyer might try and fuck you over with the goods payment system but they have to file a whole dispute and PayPal has to investigate and all this shit so its very unlikely that as a seller you can get fucked over. Of course this IS 4chan. Even if it is just /vr/ you never know...

>> No.1474654

>>1474639
I never use tracking, its a useless expense when shipping usually only takes 3-4 days.
Basically give it a week, maybe a little more, and then file a complaint.
Just keep in mind the date and time that you paid for it, as post offices aren't open on Sundays (or after 4PM in my case). And sometimes it takes a day or two for the seller to ship your games.

>> No.1474679

It has nothing to do with a receipt, you idiot.
It has to do with being able to prove thru a 3rd party WHERE the package is at any given time. You know, tracking.

>> No.1474878

>>1474639
>Pretty good rule of thumb to ask seller to use tracking. if they flat out say no, its likely a scam.
Not necessarily "likely" that it's a scam, but the possibility is much, much higher. Scammers like spending as little as possible when they rip people off, because if they spend anything and can't pull off the scam, they lose money. However, this is made easier for them with the fact that USPS priority now has free tracking.

Besides, there is a very, very easy way to "convince" Paypal that you sent something when you actually didn't. I won't describe it here. Just don't automatically trust that somebody who offers (and actually provides) tracking info, even on shipping options where it is an additional cost, is on the level.

>>1474696
>As for trading goes communication is key, ask for pics with time stamps,
Still not a guarantee but it goes a long way in helping prove that somebody at least actually has what they're offering.

>also ask for examples of previous trades if they have done them here before
Probably the absolute most helpful assurance is multiple feedbacks on items of greater value than what you're trying to obtain. If somebody has traded many valuable items before, they're probably not suddenly going to start ripping you off on something of less value.

Obviously feedback infrastructure is sorely lacking on 4chan. People here might want to consider using heatware or something.

Pointless, now the scam can be simplified to be just about the collateral. That's too much risk just to get Paypal and their weak "protection" involved. >>1475523
That brings up another possibility for this post. If Paypal can't/won't recover your money (or end up "recovering" some tiny fraction of it because they're so mighty), you can choose to get your money back by doing an end run on Paypal (which is against the TOS) and calling your bank or credit card company that's linked to your account. They will protect you, even from Paypal if necessary. You just might have your Paypal account closed permanently is all.

Someone bought it already. The store I bought it from a few years ago are selling a pile of them (Yobo (pre-Tomee name)) in the display case for $30 each so I thought that was a good deal for someone.

Sega CD (makes grinding noise for a few seconds tops when you turn it on, doesn't effect game-play at all. It's a typical issue with this system) with power adapter $50

heh, mine too. Though I think Yobo is actually post Tomee, or another company entirely, as everything they have is brand new and labeled Yobo.

Weird, it's the exact opposite at this store. Everything says Tomee, but the old 3rd party stuff is labeled Yobo.
