I still use the eject button to this day and get pissed whenever someone doesn't use it, but I know perfectly well that it doesn't even matter. The mechanics of pulling a cart out and using the eject button are the same. They just thought it would be easier for small children to push the eject button instead of pulling the cart out because there weren't any grips on the cart. Turns out kids didn't care.
Also, the SNES/SF is so light that the friction between the contacts can actually lift most models off the ground.

I use the eject button on my SNES-001 but the mini deck doesn't have an eject button (or red light) so you have to rip the cart out,and I think that's why I use my 001 more.

>> No.1417074

>>1417065
Yes, the eject button is just for fun and ignoring it is completely harmless. They thought kids would be entertained by it. Instead, it horrified people like myself by making them think people "tearing the cartridge out" would damage the system and make it harder for the cartridges to stay connected or something.

I still prefer using the eject button anyway. Popping it loose with a lever is more satisfying than just pulling it up.

Usually not with the standard models, but the SNES jr can definitely be picked up by the cart.

Good point. Any model that won't lift has a bad connector.

Early US models had a little tab connected to the power switch that swings out into the slot on the cart just like the SFC has. Apparently due to kids being retarded trying to rip a locked cart out and to save costs too, the locking piece was left off newer SNESes. Mine (model 1, 1chip 02) is missing it but my SFC has it. The original cart design no longer made sense, I suppose.

Basically, it's for the same reason the US SNES design was supposedly designed to be difficult to set a drinking glass on after seeing how many NESes came in for repairs due to stupidity. Humans are retarded. Some more than others.

>Why was the SNES cartridge design changed?

The first revision of the SNES has a lock bar that sticks into the slot on the front of the cartridge when the power is switched on.

This is supposed to deter you from yanking a cartridge out while the system is on.

Long story short, people are retards and this only resulted in a lot of damaged consoles and cartridges. The cart design was changed to give the lock bar no purchase on the cart, disabling this functionality. You can see the channel on the revised cart body that allows the bar to pass.

Later revisions of the SNES deck omit the lock bar entirely.

The eject lever is just there to make it easier to eject a cartridge. It has no bearing on the revision of the cart design.

Such bad luck to get two consoles and they both have shot cart slots. Do the abnormally loose slots cause any problems playing games? Even my Saturns can be lifted by a cart without it coming loose and they weigh a buttload more.

Uh... oh ok I think I see what you're saying now.
Well first of all, it's really just standard models in general that are like that, the cart slots are pretty strong, but not enough to keep the carts in like that. At least not if it's had any use, the only one's I've seen that could do that were systems that had just sat on a shelf all their life. Saturn isn't a very good comparison as the cartridge slots on those were not often used, and when they were, the carts were just left in.
The jr however is insanely light, and would probably still be able to grip the cart if you tried shoving bad dragon products in it.

But to answer your question, it can go either way. if it's too tight then you run the risk of the pins connecting to each other. And if its too loose, then yes, it'll have problems playing. Though the loose ports you're talking about usually don't have any issues. Personally, my ("loose") model 1's work better in that aspect than my model 2.
The number of unplayable loose model 1's I run into is proportionally equal to the number of unplayable loose model 2's by the way. So you're just as likely to get a shitty jr as you are a shitty model 1.
Although I obviously don't run into as many jr's.

I work in a game store in case you cant tell.
