Crazy barrier with dragons falling from the sky, shadow men that annihilate your party, weird dog heads that shoot lasers, a constellation monstrosity that descends from the stars at night, shark moats, bizarre sound effects such as murmurs and retching - Drakkhen has perplexed me since childhood and has left the mark of a weird dream you get after sleeping from a high or taking melatonin supplements.

Now I'm finally going to conquer this blasted game.

The question is:

Amiga or SNES version? Which is the preferred poison for tackling this beast of a game? Pic related.

>That fucking constellation monster thing
That thing scared me shitless when I was a kid because I used to play outside at night so much. I thought the same thing was going to happen to me.

To be perfectly honest this game never ceases to amaze and disturb me. I can imagine playing Drakkhen in the late 80s, tucked away in a corner of a dimly lit room at night with the company of phosphorous CRT glow, the whirring of the disk, and the occasional whispering, chattering, or snorting of in-game characters as you freely explore the dungeons and encounter various bizarre entities such as this terrifying and surreal thing. Not to mention the bizarre and cryptic dialogue.

This game frightened me a lot as a child. Did I say it left the mark of a weird dream? I meant to say it actually gave me nightmares once. This is another reason why I need to beat this game.

What is Drakkhen anyways, something of a Salvador Dali landscape rpg? Seems too intense to describe it that way but it's unlike anything else out there.

I don't know if I would call it a good game but it was definitely unforgettable.

Man... Drakkhen is like the best awful game ever.

Despite being an RPG collector I actually got rid of my SNES version for it being so unplayable. Tried the Amiga version on an emulator and same thing. Maybe one of these days I'll get another xartridge and see if I can't get my head around it since it seems like something I would like.

the cover or on the SNES cart still haunts me and I never played it

Interesting. An RPG I've never heard of before. Tell me more.
What's it like? Why does this one guy say it's "unplayable"?
All this talk about weird, "perplexing" stuff, "not sure if it's good or bad"...
Did I just discover a hidden and forgotten gem?

I have the DOS version CIB. I remember trying it some time ago and I couldn't figure out what to do. Graphics are pretty neat though.

It's not unplayable but it's unorthodox, especially you've only played JRPGs.

I really enjoyed dragon view on snes. It's the sequel

It's a real-time CRPG set inside of an open world, unique for being one of the first of its kind made at the end of the 80s. Fun in itself, its notoriety comes from both how surrealist its landscape, dialogue, and characters are and being the first RPG ported to the SNES, which is in itself just crazy to think about. Like what >>1408558 said, it often catches console gamers off guard expecting something familiar given the platform.

Well shit, I've been trying hard, but I just can not figure out how to save my custom characters with a disk on the Amiga version. Keep running into a Guru Meditation error when trying to load them. I reckon I may as well play the SNES version then.

This sucks because the Amiga version seems a lot more playable overall. Oh well.
